Most trees, shrubs and perennials can be planted now!
Annuals and Vegetables Tips:
• Early cool season veggies and annuals (potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauli ower, pansies)
• Mid-May warmer season vegetables and annuals (tomato, peppers, cucumber, melons, squash)
• Later season May crops (corn, beans, squash, zucchini)
Fertilization Tips:
• Fertilize with starter fertilizer when planting (for trees, shrubs, perennials and roses) use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer.
Mulch Tips:
• Mulch with wood type mulch to suppress weeds and conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature.
• If mulching around trees or shrubs keep mulch away from trunks (no volcano mulching!)

Watering Tips:
• Water deeply – not frequently – deep watering encourages strong root systems and reduces disease.
More Important Tips:
• Support tall plants as they emerge and grow.
• Climbing Vines & Roses (trellis) , Peonies (rings), Delphiniums (Stakes) – Stake tomatoes
• Turn compost pile to incorporate air and prepare for garden use.
• Prune spring owering shrubs such as lilac, forsythia, fothergilla, rhododendrons and azaleas AFTER they nish owering.
• Move houseplants outdoors into shady spots once the nighttime temperatures stay above 60 degrees.
• KEEP AN EYE ON WEATHER! Still chance of frost! IT IS OHIO!!
