Spinning Tunes and making new friends

Fat Dog Vinyl (FDV) is a family-owned, communitydriven record store dedicated to creating a friendly, personalized experience. After your first visit, you’re not just a customer—you’re a friend. We sell new and vintage vinyl, CDs, cassettes, reel-to-reel tapes, stereo equipment, and feature live music and local art. Partnering with WKCO and area students keeps us connected to new artists. Come meet Moxie—the “fat dog” behind the name—and discover something great at FDV!

I’ve always been a huge music fan—attending concerts and collecting records for years. I passed that love of music to our youngest son, Luka, now 17. While traveling for his soccer tournaments, we made a habit of visiting record stores in every city. After one trip, I told my wife we should open a record store in Mount Vernon. I expected her to say, “No way,” but instead she said, “Yes, let’s do it!” Almost three years later, Fat Dog Vinyl is thriving!

Once we committed, I found the perfect downtown location. I began buying collections from estate sales, individuals and eBay, while my wife handled the design—building record tables, painting the building, and shaping the look and feel of the shop. Our kids— Lauren, Lainey, and Luka—along with friends, helped prepare and now help run the store. We’ve been blessed with an amazing network of support. A special thanks to Dylan and Matt, who are integral to the shop, and to John and Michael, who always step up when needed. We’re humbled and grateful for everyone who’s helped make Fat Dog Vinyl possible.
