Welcome to the 2022 Allen County Fair,
The Board of Directors and Staff of the Allen County Fair would like to formally invite you to the 172nd Allen County Fair. The Directors and Staff of the Allen County Fairgrounds have dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort in order to make this year’s fair an exciting and entertaining experience for the general public to enjoy. The fair will include outstanding projects being exhibited by our hard working junior fair kids that will be available for your engagement throughout the nine days of the fair. A large portion of the mission of this fairgrounds is promoting and educating the youth of Allen County. Coming to this year’s fair will give you the opportunity to witness the hard work and efforts put in by our over 1,400 junior fair exhibitors. The youth also really enjoy educating fairgoers about their projects and how it has impacted their work ethic and responsibilities throughout the summer. The pride for their projects that the youth of Allen County possess is unmatched and they would be happy to have the public interact with them throughout the course of the fair.
I would like to thank the 4H Staff, the junior fair advisors, and the junior fair board members for their efforts in orchestrating the activities that go on throughout the year. Their dedication significantly impacts the success that this fairgrounds has each year and we wouldn’t be able to run a successful fair without their exemplary actions. We also encourage you to visit the midway that is packed with incredible food, rides provided by Poor Jack’s for all ages, and a diverse set of vendors on the north end of the fairgrounds. We will also have some exciting free entertainment opportunities on the midway including Tumbleweed Crossing, The Butterfly Encounter, and much more!
The “Visit Greater Lima” Grandstands is full of exciting events this year that will be fun for the whole family to enjoy! The concert for this year’s fair is Chris Young, with opening act BRELAND on Saturday, August 20th. Some of the other events that will be happening include the Buckeye Truck Pulls, Harness Racing, The Kewpee Band Show, Cheerleading Competition, The Livestock Scramble, and many more.
In closing, we would like to invite you to the junior fair livestock auction on the last Thursday and Friday of the fair. This event is the perfect opportunity for you to come and display your support for rewarding our youth for the hard work they have put in this year. We hope that you are willing to come out and participate in the long-standing traditions of the Allen County Fair and sustain these traditions for years to come. I am really looking forward to seeing each and every one of you at the 2022 Allen County Fair!
Brian Langhals, President

Fair Magazine DedicaTion
This year’s Fair Magazine is dedicated to The Allen County Commissioners Brian Winegardner, Beth Seibert and Cory Noonan.
The Allen County Commissioners are proud to have personal ties to the Allen County Fair heritage. As youth, all three were Junior Fair exhibitors with their families being deeply involved across various departments. In a recent trip to the fairgrounds the Commissioners realized they all had shown hogs and spent a lot of memorable time in the Swine Barns.
The Allen County Commissioners are pleased to have the eighteen members of the Allen County Fair Board actively engaged in the long term management and operation of the fairgrounds. Both entities have been entrusted with preserving and maintaining the fairgrounds infrastructure – some of it 70 years old. Both entities ultimately share the goal of an attractive and functional fair grounds that can serve a variety of events throughout the entire year.
None of this is possible though, without the extreme dedication of countless volunteers and critical funding from a generous community of sponsors. And it is truly on behalf of these countless, un-named champions of the Allen County Fair that the Allen County Commissioners humbly accept this fair magazine dedication.

meet troy elwer promotions
and operations manager
Mr. Troy Elwer grew up in Delphos, Ohio where he currently resides today. Most recently, Troy has become engaged to his fiancé Allie Buettner. He is a graduate of Delphos St. Johns Highschool and most recently a graduate of The Ohio State University. Troy received his bachelor’s degree in agriscience education and a minor in production agriculture/agribusiness. He currently is the new promotions and operations manager at the Allen County Fairgrounds. Troy is no stranger to agriculture due to the fact that he works on his families’ fourth generation, 200-acre corn and soybean farm. Troy also helps manage a 6-sow operation where himself and his father raise show pigs to sell to the youth of the surrounding counties. He has exhibited swine projects at the Allen County Fair since he has been three years old and stayed heavily involved in 4-H and FFA being the president of both of those organizations during his youth.
A couple of organizations that he is currently a part of is the Allen County Agricultural Society, the Delphos Eagles, a representative for the Allen County Fair on the Lima Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness committee, and a member of the Lima Rotary Club. Troy is really looking forward to working with the employees of the fair, the board of directors, and the community to sustain the long-standing tractions of the Allen County Fairgrounds and promote for exponential growth of the fair as the new manager.

Hello! I am Zane Rex the current 2022 Junior Fair Board President, and I would like to welcome everyone on behalf of the Junior Fair Board to the Allen County Fair this year. The Junior Fair Board is made up of high school students from all around the county who have come together to represent 4-H, FFA, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.
The Junior Fair Board works to ensure that we have a successful and enjoyable Jr. Fair for both the exhibitors and spectators. This is done by our members who help prepare before the fair begins as well as while the fair is going on. Junior Fair Board Members help to work shows by announcing and working with barn superintendents. On Junior Fair Board we also have several committees that work to put on fun events for exhibitors at the fair, these events
Jr. Fairboard president's welcome 2021 jr. fair royalty Court
range from dodge ball to Barn Olympics. While Junior Fair Board members have a lot of fun putting on these events and helping at shows there is also a lot of hard work that goes on to make it all happen. By working hard and helping each other as board members we are better able to become a team.
I greatly encourage everyone that comes to the fair to walk through the barns and buildings to look at what all the exhibitors at the fair have done and what they have accomplished with their projects. Thank you all for your support and welcome again to the 2022 Allen County Fair!
Zane Rex Allen Co Jr. Fair Board President 2022

This year’s Friend of 4-H is someone that has been volunteering their time for more than 2 decades helping Allen County 4-H member present the best projects that they can. This individual has helped with special interest project over the past 2 decades and has helped send many youth to State Fair judging. Allen County has had several Outstanding and Clock Trophies coming from our members from photography over the decades. He is always willing to come and take pictures of our Volunteer Banquet and Youth Banquet. He is a person that has dedicated his fair week to making it to every show, event, and programming from dawn to dust. He is the person who captures the full range of emotions of the fair; from winning the grand champion animal, trying the great fair food and the close of the carcass show. Somehow, you found a way to capture every important moment on camera! Thank you Barry Musselman, not only your dedication to the Allen County 4-H program, but also the Allen County Fair.

T102 Jr. fair livestock auction
The Allen County T102 Junior Fair Livestock Auction is the highlight of the fair for many Junior Fair Exhibitors. The number of businesses and individuals supporting the Jr. Fair Exhibitors continued to be strong with 660 buyers at the 2021 auction. A gallon of milk, 230 market hogs, 20 steers, 113 lambs, 122 pens of rabbits, 168 pens of chickens, and 78 goats were sold. The tremendous support shown by this group of individuals and businesses resulted in premiums over and above the market price which were a very respectable $434,090.11. This tremendous community support of the Jr. Fair Livestock Auction is sincerely appreciated. Special thanks goes out to The Union Bank Company, Allen County 4-H Council and OSU Extension who clerked the auction, the ring men who donated their time, and fairgrounds staff for their fine efforts in the operation of the auction.
Stop in to the Jr. Fair Office at the Allen County Fairgrounds for information on becoming a buyer, or encourage your junior fair member to exhibit a market animal and become part of the T102 Junior Fair Livestock Auction. Auction dates this year are Thursday, August 25th at 4:30 p.m. for the Chickens and Rabbits and Friday, August 26th at 9:00 a.m. for Lambs, Llama/Alpaca Fiber, Cow Milk, Goat Milk, Beef, Dairy Beef, Hogs and Goats.

The Allen County Carcass Show is one of the biggest in the state of Ohio, in terms of carcasses on display. The carcasses are graded and placed for award purposes by The Ohio State University Meat Judging Team.
Harry Shutt, along with his wife
Myrna and son Scott, owners of Kewpee Hamburgers, have been instrumental in the growth and excellence of the show. Harry has always referred to the carcass show as the ‘Grand Finale’ of the Fair, an educational opportunity for the exhibitors to see what they have accomplished from their projects this past year.
This year’s Carcass Show will be closed to the public. It is on Wednesday, August 31st at Keystone Meats. It will be judged and results will be provided on the website.

project pumpkin
and/or making drawings of their pumpkin for a demonstration, harvesting and more, children and their families will experience first-hand agricultural education.
Cloverbud member families will be given pumpkin seeds and instructions on how to plant them. We chose pumpkins because children will have fun watching this little seed mature into their own personal pumpkin this fall. The families have been encouraged to also proudly display their pumpkin projects at the Allen County Fair in a special display area.
Teaching food production to future generations is a great legacy. By thinking creatively we can start children on the path to agricultural sustainability for future generations.
Our overall goal is that Project Pumpkin is actually a STEM project where we have integrated a variety of activities that ultimately results in new skills being learned. Through learning activities such as planting, caring for the plant, calculating when the plants should be watered, taking photos
The display will also have educational pieces regarding agricultural sustainability and how to get started with their own gardening projects. Both Project Pumpkins and the general public will be educated through this display. Thank you to our sponsors Rudolph Foods and Furry Tail Farm. Project Pumpkin will be on display all week during the fair in the Youth Exhibits Building. Be sure to stop by and get your picture taken.

Come see this NEW event at the Fair! The game of handball centers on ball movement. It traditionally features six players to a side, plus goalkeepers, within a basketball court-sized boundary. You can dribble and even run while
carrying the ball, but only for three steps, forcing a quick pass or shot. Also important is the six-meter goal area line, known simply as "the six." Only the goalkeeper is allowed within this arc.
Meanwhile, there are defenses guards that line ruthlessly and do whatever it takes to prevent open shots on goal, even bear-hugging those with the ball. But, impeding a shot in progress, however, leads to a foul being called.
The bottom line. It takes skill and team chemistry to score against a well-positioned defense, but fast breaks can come in handy. Teams often capitalize off of opponents' turnovers and missed shots by quickly passing the ball up court before a defense player can get back.
See the OSU Handball Team Demonstration in action at the Grandstand on Friday, August 19th at 7:00 pm. FREE Admission!

Have
hall of fame Barrett D. Feigh Sr.
Barrett Feigh, Sr. served as a Director of the Allen County Agricultural Society from 1976 through 1988. He and his wife Betty reside in Shawnee Township, where they have been life-long farmers. Barrett’s passion for the Allen County Fair began in his youth. He fondly remembers how he and his siblings would spend entire summers on a county and state fair circuit in 4-H, Junior Fair and Open Class sheep shows. He excelled in showmanship competition with his Oxford, Suffolk, Southdown and Corriedale sheep.
Joining the Allen County Fair Board as a Director was a natural step for Barrett, as his father Howard Feigh had spent 26 years in that same role. Like many Fair Board Directors, Barrett served with the faithful help of his wife Betty and admits that he could not have taken on that obligation to the degree he did without her assistance. It was something they truly enjoyed doing together. More recently they loved assisting, encouraging and watching from the sidelines as their grandchildren exhibited market goat projects and had other 4-H and Junior Fair involvement.
During his twelve years as a Director, Barrett points out how the Fair Board members and their spouses worked collectively and physically on maintaining the grounds, preparing for the fair, and constructing various projects. One of the bigger projects he helped champion was the manufacture of a portable stage in his own farm shop. Over the years Barrett had director roles with the merchants building, midway, concessions, parking, parade, and campgrounds. Committees he served on included finance, hiring Fair Manager Don Klingler, advertising, rentals and buildings. Barrett muses how their work was performed across the large fair grounds without the benefit of golf carts. He and Betty also recall that it was a time before computerization and how all records, accounts and communications were kept by hand. Former Fair Board Director Dan Kimmet recalls how as a young, new Director he was mentored by Barrett Feigh and others.
We are honored to induct Barrett Feigh, Sr. into the Hall of Fame for his many years of service to the Allen County Fair and the Allen County Agricultural Society.

outstanding fair supporter mercy health st. rita's medical center
The 2021 Allen County Fair outstanding fair supporter is Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center. Having a foundational sponsor like Mercy Health is what allows us here at Allen County to operate a successful fair each and every year for the general public to enjoy. The impact that they have had on our fair goes above and beyond making them more than deserving of the award of an exemplary fair supporter. What many don’t realize is the significance of the impact that Mercy Health has on the Allen County Fair. For example, each and every year they are the sponsor of our junior fair photo IDs. These IDs allow our junior fair exhibitors to come and go from the fair as they please in order to insure they are able to take care of their projects that they have worked diligently on throughout the summer. Another significant impact that this medical center has had is their support of our Golden Age Day. This particular day is extremely important because it allows us to display our appreciation for senior citizens and is centered around fellowship for everyone involved in this honorary day. Mercy Health’s continued support is also heavily rooted in our junior fair livestock auction. They are part of the backbone of this event that rewards our hardworking youth for the dedication they put towards their projects over the course of the year. Most recently, this medical institute is the reason why we were able to introduce the Bright Nights as a new event for the general public to enjoy around Christmas time. As you can see, Mercy Health exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding fair supporter.
The Allen County Fairgrounds would like to thank Mercy Health for their generous contributions not only to the Fair, but also the positive impact that they have on the greater Lima community.

gospel singing tent
For pop worship band I AM THEY, believing in God’s faithfulness is an active exercise in trust. After years of member transition and internal uncertainty with how or even why to move forward, they are leaning on Hebrews 10:23 – “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who is promised is faithful.” The band – made up of Matt Hein (vocals, guitar), Abbie Parker, (vocals), Brandon Chase (vocals, guitar), Justin Shinn (keys) and Nicole Hickman (drums) – poured the challenges of the past, hope for the future and a newfound joy for the present into their third album, Faithful God. More than a collection of new songs, Faithful God is a look back and a look forward, a declaration of promises kept and promises yet to come.
The album’s first single, aptly titled “Faithful God,” speaks to those familiar times of confusion, times when you aren’t sure what
