Independent Pharmacy hosts Vaccination Clinics throughout Lenawee County

Witheveryone over the age of 16 now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination in Michigan, the Lenawee County Health Department (LCHD) is teaming up with some of the county’s independent, local pharmacies to increase access.
Schmidt and Sons Pharmacy is among the pharmacies that has become involved in assisting to vaccinate the residents of Lenawee County, having hosted vaccination clinics at locations such as a church in Hudson and senior citizens apartment complexes in Adrian and Tecumseh.
“ e health department wanted to get people of Lenawee County vaccinated as quickly as possible in all areas, not just Adrian. With our stores in Bliss eld, Tecumseh, and Clinton as well as Hudson Pharmacy, we were able to get vaccine from the LCHD and hold clinics locally so the vaccine would be more accessible for patients,” owner Sam Schmidt said.
e Johnson and Johnson vaccine was among the vaccines used at several of the clinics, however shortly therea er the FDA and the CDC had recommended that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine be placed on a “pause” a er several female patients presented with similar symptoms, a rare cranial blood clot accompanied by low platelet counts, a er having received that speci c vaccine. On April 23 the FDA and CDC recommended that the pause be li ed
based on satisfactory completion of their safety review.
Schmidt said that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine will once again be available at Schmidt and Sons, as will the Moderna vaccine.
Schmidt and Sons continues to be involved with the e ort to vaccinate Lenawee County residents. “In addition to the large clinics we have done, we also o er COVID vaccines in all three of our pharmacies along with many other adult vaccines including shingles vaccine, tetanus, whooping cough, Hepatitis vaccines, and u vaccines.” Schmidt also said that the pharmacy continues to reach out into the community: “We have also started to take vaccines to businesses and schools so that we can spend a few hours there and make it easy for employees and/or students to get the vaccine easily.”
Schmidt o ered the following suggestion for people who have not yet received a COVID vaccine but who would like more information about receiving the vaccine: “At this point, patients are welcome to call the pharmacy (517-423-3250) to schedule an appointment for a COVID vaccine, or they can go to our Facebook page and make an appointment on-line.”
