Deployment can be a stressful and uncertain time for our nation’s servicemen and women and their families. We celebrate those who serve our country – in active duty, deployment, and as veterans - by offering reduced rates for our full Countryside YMCA membership, which includes access to both our Lebanon and our Landen facilities. It’s our way of giving back to those who dedicate themselves to serving our country. Those eligible for the program include:

• Title 10 personnel

• Families of joint deployed National Guard and Reserves

• Active duty families assigned to newly established joint bases created by the base realignment and closure process

• Active duty and independent duty station personnel

• Relocated spouses and family members of deployed active duty personnel

HONORING OUR MILITARY THIS VETERAN’S DAY

Since the Civil War, the Y has provided services to the military, and they continue to support military members and their families. On November 11, Countryside YMCA will give back to veterans by honoring all the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces at the Veteran’s Day event.

VETERANS CONNECT

FREE 12 week program designed specifically to meet the needs of local veterans. Participants will meet twice a week at the Y and focus on:

• age appropriate fitness programs

• nutrition

• mental health resources

• team building

Any Veteran over the age of 18 is welcome. You do not have to be a member of the Y to participate.

Begin your Thanksgiving Feast mouthwatering favorites!

Impossible Apple Pie

INGREDIENTS

• 6 cups sliced apples

• 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon

• ¼ tsp nutmeg

• 1 cup sugar

• ¾ cup milk

• ½ cup bisquick

• 2 eggs

• 2 Tbs butter, softened

STREUSEL

• 1 cup bisquick

• ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)

• 1/3 cup brown sugar packed

• 3 Tbs rm butter

Heat oven 325o. Grease pie pan. Mix apples & spices, turn into plate. Beat remaining ingredients (except streusel) until smooth. Pour over apples. Sprinkle with streusel. Bake until knife inserted comes out clean. 55-60 min.

Note: Make the Streusel rst so you don’t have to clean the beaters

Easy Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo

INGREDIENTS

• 5 Tbs. Butter

• 1-1/2 Cups Heavy Cream

• 1 cup Parmesan Cheese

• 1 Tbs Basil Pesto (optional)

• 1 lb chicken cut into bite size pieces

• Fettuccine noodles

Sauté chicken in olive oil seasoned w/ salt pepper & garlic powder. Melt butter, add cream and simmer. Add Parmesan cheese and simmer until thickened. Add the pesto (if using). Pour sauce in bowl. Top with cooked fettuccine noodles and sautéed chicken and mix. Serve with garlic toast.

Holiday Cranberry Salad

Serves 12

INGREDIENTS

3 envelopes un avored gelatin

½ cup cold water • 2 cups sugar

4 cups fresh cranberries

½ cup seedless green grapes

1 cup nely chopped pecans

1 (15½ ounce) can crushed pineapple –undrained

Soften gelatin in cold water; set aside.

Drain pineapple, reserving juice; set pineapple aside. Add enough water to juice to make 3½ cups. Bring juice mixture and sugar to a boil; add cranberries, and cook 7 to 10 minutes or until berries pop. Stir in softened gelatin. Chill until consistency of unbeaten egg white. Stir in grapes, pecans and pineapple; pour into a lightly oiled 8-cup mold. Chill until rm.

SCIENCE ROCKS!

Bowman students are becoming scientists! Students observed rocks in their science and reading this week. Students illustrated and practiced a retelling of a story about a girl collecting different sorts of rocks. They also used magnifying tools to study characteristics of interesting rocks in the science lab!

LHS Senior Braden Burger was appointed Youth Director. Seniors Faye Allen, Gavin Wright, Nathan Wilcher, Aaron Watson, Ben Schweinberg, and Juniors Maria McCowan, Emma Meyer and Jordan Lamb helped create this leadership opportunity.

Lebanon’s Long-time Leader, Advocate & Volunteer

Lebanon Mayor Amy Brewer is and has been a tireless advocate for the city and residents of Lebanon for more than 30 years.

She has guided this community through so many challenges and achievements over the years with unwavering passion, dedication, and service. Amy Brewer gave her heart and soul to Lebanon.

As she retires from City Council, her leadership will be missed but we know we will continue to see her throughout the town!
