AsI made a home and raised my kids in Ohio, a staple was always our community library. So much has changed in our society, I still remember when a library was a place that you could check out books, or do research. Thinking of a library in that context today is like saying one can only get “gas” at a gas station. Spending a great deal of time at libraries across central Ohio I have seen libraries, and particularly our Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County, turn into complete family educational and entertainment centers!
Our libraries not only provide a regular schedule of events, and tools to improve our lives, but have also kept pace with changing technologies all along the way. The library serves the community through its convenient locations across the county:
• Main facility - 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon
• Fredericktown - 1 Burgett Drive
• Danville - 512 S. Market Street Gambier - 115 Meadow Lane
People of all ages can use the library’s free access to the Internet though public-access computers and free WiFi. The library even has WiFi Hotspots that
allow you to access the Internet with any of your own WiFi-enabled devices anywhere you can get a cellphone signal. Each Hotspot can be used to connect multiple devices at one time.
Visit their website at www.knox.net to find many more valuable free resources such as free access to the online services Libby, Kanopy, Roku, Hoopla, Transparent Languages, Universal Class, Ancestry Online, Ohio Web Library, Chilton’s Auto Repair Database, and many more.
If you have an event coming up and you need help with ideas to make it exciting and fun for all ages, start planning at your library!! They even have lawn games available, cooking supplies — anything you can imagine!
The Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County is not the same place it was when you were a kid — even if it was as recent as ten years ago. Check the Library’s schedule of events,at www.knox.net, and discover your library again!
