A long-time resident and stakeholder in that community shared with me the following words; “Our community has no idea what it means to have our community hospital, and our own local bank in our city.” Unfortunately, that community no longer has either--and it is truly reflected in that city.
It is ever so apparent, when one compares this community of greater Knox County to others, that we are blessed to have our own Knox Community Hospital right here in Mount Vernon! “KCH” as it is affectionately called, not
only boasts of extraordinary medical care—with expanding facilities like the Wright Family Medical Pavilion and the Ann Schnormeier Center for Birthing Care to see to our overall health—but one also sees the KCH impact as they are regularly called upon to support local “quality of life” initiatives across the region.
Theater organizations, baseball teams, county fairs, booster clubs, community improvement projects—all rely heavily on their small and larger business community for support throughout the year as they address the “emotional health” of our community through their activities.
Frequently, the first call is to our local Knox Community Hospital as they are known to step up in big ways in every platform.
In return, I hope that most of our citizens recognize the huge role that KCH plays in making Knox County a great place to live—and choose KCH and its outstanding team with primary care centers across the county, when they need health care services. Be reminded Knox Community Hospital is truly one of those key links that makes Knox County, Ohio, such a special place to live, work and play safely!
Article submitted by Jim Stoner >>Manyvisitors to Knox County, if they investigate it at all, are usually quick to recognize one of the unique characteristics of our community is our vast array of arts organizations. One of the most storied organizations with a long history in Knox County is also one of the area’s “best kept secrets” for entertainment for everyone in the family. It’s the Community Concert Association of Knox County (CCAKC).
For more than 95 years, the CCAKC has presented a world-class performing artist series in Knox County that provides the finest in professional entertainment for an incredibly reasonable price. This year they opened the series with a concert of Country superstar Larry Gatlin of the famous Gatlin
Brothers Band, only to be followed by six extraordinary love performances, that are all easily affordable to anyone who is interested for $55 — for the entire series subscription!
This dedicated group of volunteers believes in accessibility to all who want to see the BEST in entertainment, without paying high prices or driving out of town.
The formula for presenting these is dependent upon selling all of the tickets for a concert before the doors are ever opened. This enables the volunteers to sell an affordable subscription ticket, based on the number of seats available in our local auditorium. “The Plan” was developed by Columbia Artists Management in the 1920s, and
lives on today through an organization in Nashville, TN, called Live On Stage. This organization auditions hundreds of artists each year and then builds tours across the US, taking them to smaller, dedicated artist presenting companies like the CCAKC. Every year they present fantastic, family-oriented programs for a tremendous value — usually six shows for under $60 for a single subscription ticket!
Don’t be tricked into thinking there is “nothing to do in Knox County.” Visit www.ccaofknoxcounty.com for the greatest ticket in town, or see how much fun we are having at the Community Concerts of Knox County, Ohio, Facebook page!
Over the past several years, I have embarked on a journey that I never expected. While I was raised on a farm, I never really appreciated the “obsession” many have with horses. This changed as I became friends with Lynnette Bonar at the Hobby Horse Hill Therapeutic Equestrian Center (HHHTEC) in Fredericktown and agreed to help her with chores. I quickly began to see the horses’ personalities and, most importantly, the benefits of how interacting with horses is a uniquely fulfilling experience. Lynn began to share how horses can help humans through confidence building, stress relief, and a variety of other challenges.
My wife Amy and I serve on the HHHTEC’s Board and have repeatedly seen the difference these horses have made in people’s lives. Our path has taken us on a journey to truly see how Lynn and her team (some human, some not) go about “helping horses help humans” to deal with all sorts of emotional and physical challenges. The horses have interacted with first responders, abuse survivors, and troubled youth who are facing things they never expected to encounter, just by showing them special understanding. Lynn hand selects the creatures, based on their personalities, to help each person who approaches HHHTEC for assistance.
We regularly seek those who value our mission who may partner with us as volunteers and donors. We welcome a visit to see exactly how horses can truly change people’s lives.
