For the foolishness of God

the

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things and the things that are not to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

MATTHEW

18.10-14

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew6:33-34)

ST. GREGORY THE ILLUMINATOR’S SONS & GRANDSONS

On July 25, the Armenian Church commemorate St. Gregory the Illuminator’s Sons and Grandsons-Sts. Aristakes, Vrtanes, Housik, Grigoris and Daniel. Aristakes was St. Gregory the Illuminator's youngest son. He led a monastic life from a very early age. He was consecrated a bishop by his father. In 325 A.D., he participated in the First Ecumenical

Council of Nicaea, representing the first Catholicos and the entire Armenian Church. Upon St. Gregory's death, he became Catholicos of All Armenians. He was killed in 333 A.D. by Arkeghayos, a prince of Greater Armenia, for criticizing the king's incorrigible behavior.

Vrtanes was St. Gregory the Illuminator's elder son. He was married and had two sons - Grigoris and Housik. Following the death of his brother, Vrtanes ascended to Catholicos. Vrtanes died in 341 A.D. and was buried in the village Tordan near the relics of St. Gregory the Illuminator.

Grigoris was the elder son of Vrtanes. He was sent by the Armenian Church to spread Christianity among its neighboring nations. He was martyred upon the order of King Sanesan, the head of the nomadic Mazkut tribe. His remains were buried by the deacons who served with him in the village Amaras in Artsakh.

Housik was the younger son of Vrtanes. He married the daughter of the Armenian King Tiridates and had two sons - Pap and Antiochus. In 341 A.D., he was elected Catholicos of All Armenians. He resisted and challenged the will of King Tiran, who wished to hang the portrait of Julianus the Betrayer in a church. He was severely beaten, martyred and buried in the village Tordan in the province of Daranaghi.

Bishop Daniel Assyrian was famous for his saintly way of life. Following the martyrdom of Housik, he was invited to be the Catholicos of All Armenians. During the very first meeting with King Tiran, he strictly castigated him on the murder of the Pontiff Housik. The king summarily ordered the death of Daniel.

This feast is celebrated on the Saturday preceding the third Sunday of the Feast of Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.

TRANSFIGURATION WAS CELEBRATED WITH GREAT SPIRITUAL JOY

On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord was celebrated with great spiritual joy at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church.

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated, and the sermon on the meaning of the feast was delivered by the Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian, Vicar of the Armenian Diocese of Canada and Parish Priest of Holy

Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church. A large congregation of faithful participated in the festive service, glorifying the glorious Transfiguration of Our Lord with prayer and spiritual rejoicing.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, those bearing the names commemorated on this feast day were invited to approach the Holy Altar, where they received a special blessing. This beautiful spiritual moment became an opportunity to pray that the Lord would continue to guide and protect all those celebrating their name day throughout their lives.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the clergy, deacons, and faithful formed a procession to the church courtyard, where the traditional Service of Antasdan was celebrated. Through prayer and blessing, God's peace, abundance, and protection were invoked upon our community, our families, and the entire world.

Following the Antasdan service, the day continued with the festive celebration organized by Barev Youth. The church courtyard was filled with the joy and excitement of children and families. Children enthusiastically took part in water fights, enjoyed specially installed water slides, foam activities, and many other fun attractions. These colorful and lively scenes brought a warm sense of fellowship and celebration to the feast.

Thus, the Feast of the Transfiguration beautifully united prayer, blessing, fellowship, and joy, becoming a meaningful expression of faith and the unity of our parish community.

We give thanks to Almighty God for this blessed day and express our sincere gratitude to all those whose dedicated service and commitment contributed to the successful organization of this joyful celebration.
