ՊՕՂՈՍ ԱՌԱՔԵԱԼԻ ԿՈՂՄԷ ԹԵՍԱՂՈՆԻԿԵՑԻՆԵՐՈՒՆ ՈՒՂՂԱԾ 1-ԻՆ ՆԱՄԱԿԷՆ 4.12-18 Եղբայրնե՛ր, չենք ուզեր որ անգէտ ըլլաք ննջեցեալներուն մասին, որպէսզի չտրտմիք ինչպէս ուրիշները՝ որ յոյս չունին: Արդարեւ եթէ կը հաւատանք թէ Յիսուս մեռաւ եւ յարութիւն առաւ, նոյնպէս ալ հաւատանք թէ Աստուած պիտի բերէ Յիսուսով ննջողները՝ անոր հետ: Որովհետեւ սա՛ կը յայտարարենք ձեզի՝ Տէրոջ խօսքով, թէ մենք՝ մինչեւ Տէրոջ գալուստը ողջ մնացողներս՝ բնա՛ւ պիտի չկանխենք ննջեցեալները: Քանի որ նոյնինքն Տէրը պիտի իջնէ երկինքէն՝ ազդարարութեան հրամանով, հրեշտակապետին ձայնով եւ Աստուծոյ փողով, ու նախ Քրիստոսով մեռածնե՛րը յարութիւն պիտի առնեն: Ապա մենք, ողջ մնացողներս, անոնց հետ պիտի յափշտակուինք ամպերով՝ Տէրը դիմաւորելու օդին մէջ, եւ այդպէս Տէրոջ հետ պիտի ըլլանք յաւիտեան: Հետեւաբար մխիթարեցէ՛ք զիրար այս խօսքերով:
ՅՈՎՀԱՆՆՈՒ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆԷՆ 11.1-46 Մարիամի եւ անոր քրոջ՝ Մարթայի գիւղէն, Բեթանիայէն, Ղազարոս անունով մէկը հիւանդ էր: (Ասիկա այն Մարիամն էր՝ որ օծեց Տէրը օծանելիքով ու սրբեց անոր ոտքերը իր մազերով. անոր եղբայրը՝ Ղազարոս հիւանդ էր:) Ուրեմն իր քոյրերը մարդ ղրկեցին անոր եւ ըսին. «Տէ՛ր, ահա՛ ան՝ որ դուն կը սիրես՝ հիւանդ է»: Երբ Յիսուս լսեց՝ ըսաւ. «Այս հիւանդութիւնը մահուան համար չէ՝ հապա Աստուծոյ փառքին համար, որպէսզի Աստուծոյ Որդին փառաւորուի անով»: Արդարեւ Յիսուս կը սիրէր Մարթան եւ անոր քոյրն ու Ղազարոսը: Ուրեմն 3
երբ լսեց թէ հիւանդ է, եղած տեղը երկու օր ալ մնաց. յետոյ ըսաւ աշակերտներուն. «Եկէ՛ք, դարձեալ Հրէաստան երթանք»: Աշակերտները ըսին իրեն. «Ռաբբի՛, Հրեաները հի՛մա կը փնտռէին քեզ՝ քարկոծելու համար, ու դա՞րձեալ հոն կ՚երթաս»: Յիսուս պատասխանեց. «Օրը տասներկու ժամ չէ՞: Եթէ մէկը ցերեկը քալէ՝ չի սայթաքիր, որովհետեւ այս աշխարհի լոյսը կը տեսնէ. բայց եթէ մէկը գիշերուան մէջ քալէ՝ կը սայթաքի, որովհետեւ իրեն հետ լոյս չկայ»: Այս բաները խօսելէ ետք՝ ըսաւ անոնց. «Ղազարոս՝ մեր բարեկամը՝ քնացած է. բայց կ՚երթա՛մ՝ որպէսզի արթնցնեմ զայն»: Իր աշակերտները ըսին. «Տէ՛ր, եթէ քնացած է՝ պիտի առողջանայ»: Յիսուս կը խօսէր անոր մահուան մասին, բայց անոնք կը կարծէին թէ քունո՛վ հանգստանալուն մասին կը խօսէր: Այն ատեն Յիսուս բացորոշապէս ըսաւ անոնց. «Ղազարոս մեռաւ. ու ես ուրախ եմ ձեզի համար՝ որ հոն չէի, որպէսզի դուք հաւատաք. բայց եկէ՛ք՝ երթանք անոր»: Թովմաս, որ Երկուորեակ կը կոչուէր, ըսաւ աշակերտակիցներուն. «Մե՛նք ալ երթանք՝ որպէսզի մեռնինք անոր հետ»: Երբ Յիսուս եկաւ, գտաւ որ ան արդէն չորս օրէ ի վեր գերեզմանը դրուած էր: Բեթանիա Երուսաղէմի մօտ էր՝ տասնհինգ ասպարէզի չափ. եւ Հրեաներէն շատեր եկած էին Մարթայի ու Մարիամի, որպէսզի սփոփեն զանոնք իրենց եղբօր համար: Ուստի՝ երբ Մարթա լսեց թէ Յիսուս կու գայ՝ գնաց դիմաւորելու զայն. բայց Մարիամ նստած էր տան մէջ: Մարթա ըսաւ Յիսուսի. «Տէ՛ր, եթէ հոս ըլլայիր, եղբայրս չէր մեռներ. Բայց գիտեմ թէ հիմա ալ՝ դուն ի՛նչ որ խնդրես Աստուծմէ, Աստուած պիտի տայ քեզի»: Յիսուս ըսաւ անոր. «Եղբայրդ յարութիւն պիտի առնէ»: Մարթա ըսաւ անոր. «Գիտեմ թէ յարութեան ժամանակը՝ վերջին օրը՝ յարութիւն պիտի առնէ»: Յիսուս ըսաւ անոր. «Ե՛ս եմ յարութիւնն ու կեանքը: Ա՛ն որ կը հաւատայ ինծի, թէեւ մեռնի՝ պիտի ապրի. Եւ ո՛վ որ կ՚ապրի եւ կը հաւատայ ինծի, յաւիտեա՛ն պիտի չմեռնի: Դուն կը հաւատա՞ս ասոր»: Ըսաւ անոր. «Այո՛, Տէ՛ր, ես կը հաւատամ թէ դո՛ւն ես Քրիստոսը՝ Աստուծոյ Որդին, որ աշխարհ պիտի գար»: 4
Երբ ըսաւ ասիկա՝ գնաց, ու ծածկաբար կանչեց իր քոյրը՝ Մարիամը, ըսելով. «Վարդապետը եկած է, եւ կը կանչէ քեզ»: Երբ ան լսեց՝ շուտով ոտքի ելաւ ու եկաւ անոր քով: Յիսուս դեռ եկած չէր գիւղը, հապա այն տեղն էր՝ ուր Մարթա դիմաւորեց զինք: Բայց Հրեաները, որ տան մէջ էին անոր հետ եւ կը սփոփէին զայն, երբ տեսան թէ Մարիամ շուտով կանգնեցաւ ու գնաց, իրենք ալ հետեւեցան անոր՝ ըսելով. «Գերեզմանը կ՚երթայ՝ որպէսզի հոն լայ»: Իսկ Մարիամ, երբ հասաւ Յիսուսի եղած տեղը ու տեսաւ զինք, անոր ոտքը իյնալով՝ ըսաւ անոր. «Տէ՛ր, եթէ հոս ըլլայիր՝ եղբայրս չէր մեռներ»: Ուրեմն երբ Յիսուս տեսաւ զայն՝ որ կու լար, եւ անոր հետ եկող Հրեաները՝ որոնք կու լային, սրդողեցաւ իր հոգիին մէջ ու վրդովեցաւ, եւ ըսաւ. «Ո՞ւր դրած էք զայն»: Ըսին իրեն. «Տէ՛ր, եկո՛ւր ու տե՛ս»: Յիսուս լացաւ: Ուստի Հրեաները կ՚ըսէին. «Նայեցէ՛ք, ո՜րչափ կը սիրէր զայն»: Անոնցմէ ոմանք ալ կ՚ըսէին. «Ասիկա՝ որ կոյրին աչքերը բացաւ, չէ՞ր կրնար այնպէս ընել՝ որ ա՛յս ալ չմեռնէր»: Ուրեմն Յիսուս՝ դարձեալ սրդողելով ինքնիր մէջ՝ գնաց գերեզման. ան քարայր մըն էր, որուն վրայ քար մը դրուած էր: Յիսուս ըսաւ. «Վերցուցէ՛ք այդ քարը»: Մեռելին քոյրը՝ Մարթա՝ ըսաւ անոր. «Տէ՛ր, արդէն նեխած պիտի ըլլայ, որովհետեւ չորս օրուան է»: Յիսուս ըսաւ անոր. «Քեզի չըսի՞ թէ պիտի տեսնես Աստուծոյ փառքը՝ եթէ հաւատաս»: Ուստի վերցուցին քարը: Յիսուս բարձրացուց իր աչքերը եւ ըսաւ. «Հա՛յր, շնորհակալ եմ քեզմէ՝ որ լսեցիր զիս: Ու ես գիտէի թէ ամէն ատեն կը լսես զիս. բայց ըսի շուրջս կայնող բազմութեան համար, որպէսզի հաւատան թէ դո՛ւն ղրկեցիր զիս»: Ասիկա ըսելէն ետք՝ բարձրաձայն պոռաց. «Ղազարո՛ս, դո՛ւրս եկուր»: Մեռելն ալ ելաւ՝ ոտքերն ու ձեռքերը պատանքով կապուած, եւ դէմքը՝ վարշամակով պատուած: Յիսուս ըսաւ անոնց. «Արձակեցէ՛ք զինք, ու թո՛յլ տուէք որ երթայ»: Հրեաներէն շատեր՝ որ եկած էին Մարիամի քով, երբ տեսան Յիսուսի ըրածը՝ հաւատացին իրեն: Բայց անոնցմէ ոմանք գացին Փարիսեցիներուն ու պատմեցին անոնց Յիսուսի ըրածը: 5
1 THESSALONIANS 4.12-18 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
JOHN 1.1-46 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, and then he said to his disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.” “But Rabbi,” they said, “a short while ago the Jews there tried to stone you, and yet you are going back?” Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s 6
light. It is when a person walks at night that they stumble, for they have no light.” After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep. So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” Then Thomas (also known as Didymus a ) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Now Bethany was less than two miles b from Jerusalem, and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” After she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. “The Teacher is here,” she said, “and is asking for you.” When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met him. When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, 7
comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there. When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?” Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.

ՇԱԲԹՈՒԱՆ ՏՕՆԵՐԸ - FEASTS OF THE WEEK ՏՕՆ ԱՆՈՒԱՆԱԿՈՉՈՒԹԵԱՆ ՏԵԱՌՆ ՄԵՐՈՅ ՅԻՍՈՒՍԻ ՔՐԻՍՏՈՍԻ Սուրբ Ծննդեան տօնի 8-րդ օրը մեր Տիրոջ՝ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի անւանակոչութեան տօնն է։ Ան առաքելական եկեղեցւոյ Տէրունական անշարժ տօներէն է եւ ամէն տարի կը նշուի Յունուար 13ին։ Հրէական օրէնքի համաձայն, ծննդեան 8-րդ օրը Յիսուս, ինչպէս ամէն մի նորածին արու զաւակ, թլփատւեցաւ եւ անուանակոչուեցաւ: Ղուկաս Աւետարանիչը կը վըկայէ. «Երբ ութ օրերը լրացան՝ մանուկը տարին թլփատելու: Անոր անունը դրուեցաւ Յիսուս, որ հրեշտակին կոչած անունն էր՝ դեռ ինք մօրը որովայնին մէջ չյղացած» (Ղուկ. 2:21): «Յիսուս» եբրայերէն բառ է, որ կը նշանակէ Փրկիչ: Գաբրիէլ հրեշտակ իր աւետիսին մէջ, յիշատակեց Յիսուս անունը: «Ահա՛ պիտի յղանաս որովայնիդ մէջ ու որդի մը պիտի ծնանիս, եւ անոր անունը Յիսուս պիտի կոչես»: (Ղուկ. 1:31) Յիսուս անուան հետ զուգահեռ Փրկչին կը միանայ նաև Քրիստոս անունը: Ան Յունարէն բառ է, որ կը նշանակէ Օծեալ և համապատասխանն է եբրայերէնի Մեսիա բառին: Յիսուս կ'անուանուի Էմմանուէլ,Մեծ Վարդապետ: Փրկիչի անուանակոչութեան տօնին հայոց բոլոր եկեղեցիներուն մէջ կը մատուցուի Սուրբ Պատարագ, իսկ նախորդ օրը՝ երեկոյեան ժամերգութեան աւարտին՝ կը կատարուի նախատօնակի արարողութիւն: 9
NAMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST Every year, on January 13, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Feast of Naming of Our Lord Jesus Christ. As St. Luke writes in his Gospel, according to the Jewish tradition “On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived.” (Luke 2:21). “Jesus” is a Hebrew word that means “Savior”. According to the Gospel of Luke, when the angel Gabriel came to Maryto give her the good news of the birth of the Son of the Most High, he said that Mary would name the baby “Jesus”. “You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.” (Luke 1:31). The name “Christ” was given to the Savior as well, which is a Greek word meaning “Consecrated” and equivalent of the Hebrew word “Messiah”. On the Feast of Naming of Our Lord Jesus Christ a Divine Liturgy is celebrated in all Armenian Churches. ԱՆՈՒԱՆԱԿՈՉՈՒԹԻՒՆ Նուիրական աւանդութեան համաձայն, Մկրտութեան ժամանակ խորհրդակատար քահանան մկրտուողին նոր անուն կու տայ, քանզի մկրտութեան Սուրբ Աւազանէն վերստին ծնածը այլեւս նոր մարդ մըն է (Յովհ. 3.3, 5–6): Նմանապէս, հոգեւորականներու ձեռնադրութեան եւ օծման ընթացքին` նուիրեալին նոր անուն կը շնորհուի, սովորաբար որևէ սուրբի կամ ականաւոր եկեղեցական-ազգային գործիչի անուն: Հայ եկեղեցւոյ կանոններու համաձայն, նորակառոյց եկեղեցւոյ նաւակատիքին, հանդիսապետ եպիսկոպոսը, եկեղեցին օծելով՝ նորակառոյց տաճարը կ'անուանակոչէ որևէ սուրբի կամ սրբուհու անունով, կամ Տէրունական որեւէ տօնի մը անունով:

ԳԻՏԷ՞ԻՐ ԹԷ ... Թլփատումը, հրեաներու համար Աբրահամի սերունդի եւ Աստուածային ուխտի յիշատակութիւնն է։ Քրիստոնէութեան տարածման սկզբնական շրջանին, նորադարձ քրիստոնեայ հրեաները շարունակեցին պահել իրենց այս աւանդութիւնը, որը աւելի վերջ Պօղոս առաքեալի կողմէ արգիլուեցաւ։ «Արդարեւ Քրիստոս Յիսուսի մէջ եղողին՝ ո՛չ թլփատութիւնը որեւէ ազդեցութիւն ունի, ո՛չ ալ անթլփատութիւնը, հապա հաւա՛տքը՝ որ կը ներգործէ սիրով»: (Գաղ. 5:6) DID YOU KNOW... In the Old Testament circumcision was the symbolic act of Covenant of the generations of Abraham with God by which a Jewish male was entered into covenant with God. But in the New Testament the covenant with God for Christians became the acceptance and belief in the redeeming grace of Jesus Christ. In the early stages of Christianity, Christian Jews continued the practice of circumcision, but Apostle Paul condemned it stating:'For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love’. (Gal. 5:6)
֍ ՏՕՆ ԾՆՆԴԵԱՆ Ս. ՅՈՎՀԱՆՆՈՒ ԿԱՐԱՊԵՏԻ Հինգշաբթի Յունուար 15-ին, Հայաստանեայց Առաքելական եկեղեցին կը նշէ Յովհաննու Կարապետի ծննդեան տօնը: Ղուկաս Աւետարանիչը մանրամասն նկարագրած է անոր ծնունդը (Ղուկ. 1:525): Կարապետ կը նշանակէ «առջեւէն գացող եւ ճամբայ բացող, առաջնորդ»: Յովհաննէս Կարապետը, Յիսուս Քրիստոսի գալուստը վկայած մարգարէներէն վերջինն է, որ նաեւ մկրտեց զԱյն, այնուհետեւ կոչուելով «Յովհաննէս Մկրտիչ»: Ան կը քարոզէր ապաշխարութիւն եւ կը մկրտէր իր հետեւորդները: Յովհաննէս մեծ յարգանք կը վայելէր ու իր հետեւորդները հարց կուտային անոր, թէ 11
արդե՞օք ինքն է Քրիստոսը: Բայց ինքը ըսաւ. «Արդարեւ ես կը մկըրտեմ ձեզի ջուրով՝ ապաշխարութեան համար, բայց ա՛ն որ կու գայ իմ ետեւէս՝ ինձմէ հզօր է, ու ես արժանի չեմ անոր կօշիկները կրելու. անիկա՛ պիտի մկրտէ ձեզ Սուրբ Հոգիով ու կրակով»: (Մատթ. 3:11) Իսկ Տէր Յիսուս Քըրիստոս Յովհաննէսի մասին ըսաւ, «Ճըշմարտապէս կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Կիներէ ծնածներուն մէջ՝ Յովհաննէս Մըկըրտիչէն աւելի մեծը ելած չէ”. Յովհաննէս Մկրտիչի եւ Յոբ Արդարի ։ THE BIRTH OF ST JOHN THE BAPTIST This year, on January 15 the Armenian Apostolic Church observes the Feast of the Birth of St John the Baptist, the Forerunner. The birth of St John is described in detail in the Gospel of Luke(1:5-25). 12
John was the son of Zachariah and Elizabeth. Elizabeth was a cousin of Mary the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the New Testament he is mentioned in all four Gospels. He was baptizing those who repented their sins in the river of Jordan. He announced the coming of the "One who is greater" than himself who will "come to baptize not with water but with the Spirit." Կարապետ վանքը յայտնի է նաեւ Մշոյ Սուլթան Գլակավանք, Իննակնեան վանք անուանումներով: Վանքը եղած է գրչութեան, կրթութեան եւ մշակութային կեդրոն, ունեցած է խոշոր մատենադարան: Եղած է Հայաստանի երկրորդ հոգևոր կեդրոնը՝ Էջմիածինէն յետոյ: Վանքը նաեւ նշանաւոր ուխտատեղի էր եւ ուխտագնացութեան օրերն էին Վարդավառը եւ Աստուածածնի Վերափոխման տօները: Ներկայիս Մշոյ Ս. Կարապետ վանքը ամբողջովին աւերուած է: DID YOU KNOW... St. John the Baptist is one of the most respected saints of the Armenian Church. We entreat his name as an intercessor during the divine services, generally following the name of St. Mary. Many churches were built to honour John the Baptist, but the most famous is the The Surb Garabed Monastery in the historic province of Daron, about 30 kilometers northwest of Mush. According to tradition, in early 4th century St. Gregory the Illuminator, brought the relics of St. John to Armenia from Caesarea, and buried them near the town of Moush, after which the famous Monastery of St. John the Baptist is built. Historically, the monastery was the religious center of Daron and was a prominent pilgrimage site, especially on the Feast of Transfiguration of our Lord and the Assumption of St. Mary. It was considered the second most important Armenian monastery after the Holy Etchmiadzin. The monastery was burned and robbed during the Armenian Genocide. 14
