ՊՕՂՈՍ ԱՌԱՔԵԱԼԻ ԿՈՂՄԷ ԵԲՐԱՅԵՑԻՆԵՐՈՒՆ ԳՐՈՒԱԾ ՆԱՄԱԿԷՆ 4.16-5.10 Ուրեմն համարձակութեա՛մբ մօտենանք շնորհքի գահին, որպէսզի ողորմութիւն ստանանք եւ շնորհք գտնենք՝ պատեհ ատեն օգնելու մեզի: Արդարեւ, մարդոց մէջէն առնուած ամէն քահանայապետ՝ նշանակուած է մարդո՛ց համար, որպէսզի Աստուծոյ մատուցանէ ընծաներ ու մեղքերու համար զոհեր: Ան կրնայ հասկացող ըլլալ անոնց՝ որ անգէտ եւ մոլորեալ են, որովհետեւ ի՛նք ալ համակուած է տկարութեամբ. եւ այս պատճառով պարտաւոր է մեղքի պատարագ մատուցանել՝ ինչպէս ժողովուրդին համար, նոյնպէս ալ իրեն համար: Ո՛չ մէկը ինքնիրեն կ՚առնէ այս պատիւը, հապա միայն ա՛ն՝ որ կանչուած է Աստուծմէ, ինչպէս Ահարոն: Նոյնպէս ալ ո՛չ թէ Քրիստո՛ս փառաւորեց ինքզինք՝ քահանայապետ ըլլալու համար, հապա ա՛ն՝ որ ըսաւ իրեն. «Դուն իմ Որդիս ես, ա՛յսօր ծնայ քեզ»: Ինչպէս ուրիշ տեղ մըն ալ կ՚ըսէ. «Դուն յաւիտեան քահանայ ես՝ Մելքիսեդեկի կարգին համեմատ»: Ան՝ իր մարմինին օրերը, սաստիկ գոչիւնով եւ արցունքով, աղերսանք ու պաղատանք մատուցանեց անոր՝ որ կարող էր մահէն փրկել զինք. եւ ընդունուեցաւ՝ իր բարեպաշտութեան պատճառով՝՝: 8Թէպէտ ինք Որդի էր, հնազանդութիւն սորվեցաւ իր չարչարանքներէն. ու երբ կատարեալ եղաւ, յաւիտենական փրկութիւն պատճառեց բոլոր իրեն հնազանդողներուն, եւ Աստուծմէ յորջորջուեցաւ՝ Քահանայապետ Մելքիսեդեկի կարգին համեմատ: 3
ՂՈՒԿԱՍԻ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆԷՆ 18. 9-14 Սա՛ առակն ալ ըսաւ ոմանց, որոնք իրենք իրենց վրայ կը վստահէին թէ արդար են, եւ կ՚անարգէին ուրիշները. «Երկու մարդ տաճարը բարձրացաւ աղօթելու, մէկը՝ Փարիսեցի, ու միւսը՝ մաքսաւոր: Փարիսեցին կայնած էր եւ սա՛պէս կ՚աղօթէր ինքնիրեն. “Ո՛վ Աստուած, շնորհակալ եմ քեզմէ՝ որ ուրիշ մարդոց պէս չեմ, յափշտակող, անիրաւ, շնացող, կամ ալ այս մաքսաւորին պէս. հապա շաբաթը երկու անգամ ծոմ կը պահեմ, եւ ամբողջ եկամուտիս տասանորդը կու տամ”: Իսկ մաքսաւորը հեռուն կայնած էր, ու չէր ուզեր աչքն ալ բարձրացնել երկինք, հապա՝ ծեծելով իր կուրծքը՝ կ՚ըսէր. “Աստուա՛ծ, ներէ՛ ինծի՝ մեղաւորիս”: Կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի թէ ասիկա այն միւսէն աւելի արդարացած իջաւ իր տունը. որովհետեւ ո՛վ որ կը բարձրացնէ ինքզինք՝ պիտի խոնարհի, իսկ ո՛վ որ կը խոնարհեցնէ ինքզինք՝ պիտի բարձրանայ»: HEBREWS 4.16-5.10 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” 4
And he says in another place, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek. LUKE 18. 9-14 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

ՇԱԲԹՈՒԱՆ ՏՕՆԵՐԸ - FEASTS OF THE WEEK Ս. ՍՏԵՓԱՆՈՍ ՆԱԽԱՎԿԱՅԻ ՅԻՇԱՏԱԿՈՒԹԵԱՆ ՕՐ Այս տարի Դեկտեմբեր 25-ին Հայց. Առաքելական Եկեղեցին կը յիշատակէ Ս. Ստեփանոս Նախավկայի յիշատակութեան օրը: Ս. Ստեփանոսը Քրիստոսի վարդապետութեան համար նահատակուած առաջին մարտիրոսն է: Ան Քրիստոնէական Եկեղեցւոյ ծառայող առաջին սպասաւորներէն եւ առաքեալներու կողմէ ընտրուած եօթը սարկաւագներէն մէկըն էր: Ինքը ականատես եղաւ Տիրոջ խաչելութեան, եւ առաքեալներու հետ վերըստին ուրախացաւ Աստուածորդիի յարութեամբ: Հայ Եկեղեցւոյ վարդապետ Ս. Գրիգոր Տաթեւացիի համաձայն` Ս. Ստեփանոս նախ կ'երթայ Պետրոս եւ Յովհաննէս առաքեալներու մօտ մկրտուելու: Մըկըրտութեան ատեն ջուրին վրայ լուսապըսակ մը կը յայտնուի ու կը հանգչի անոր վրայ: Ի պատիւ այս հրաշքի իրեն կը տրուի «Ստեփանոս» անունը, որ կը նշանակէ «պսակաւոր»: Քրիստոսի յարութիւնէն յետոյ, հաւատացողներու թիւը օրէ օր կ'աւելնար: Այդ պատճառով առաքեալները կանչեցին աշակերտներուն բազմութիւնը եւ ըսին, որ իրենցմէ եօթը հոգի ընտրեն՝ եկեղեցւոյ մէջ առաքեալներուն օգնելու համար: «Այս խօսքը հաճեցուց ամբողջ բազմութիւնը. եւ ընտրեցին Ստեփանոսը, հաւատքով ու Սբ. Հոգիով լեցուն մարդ մը, Փիլիպպոսը, Պրոքորոնը, Նիկանովրան, Տիմովնան, Պարմենան եւ Նիկողայոս նորահաւատ Անտիոքցին: Ասոնք ներկայացուցին առաքեալներուն. անոնք ալ աղօթելով՝ իրենց ձեռքերը դրին անոնց վրայ»: Ս. Ստեփանոս Աստուծոյ շնորհով և զօրութեամբ հրաշքներ կը գործէր ժողովուրդին մէջ: Փարիսեցիները կեղծ մեղադրանքներով Ստեփանոսին բերին դատաստանի: Դատավարութեան ընթացքին Ս. Ստեփանոս ատեանին առջեւ համարձակօրէն կը յայտարարէ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի աստուածութեան բարի լուրը: Իսկ անոնք բարձրա6
ձայն աղաղակելով՝ կը խուժեն անոր վրայ ու քարկոծելով կը սպաննեն զայն։ ST. STEPHEN THE PROTO-DEACON This year on December 25, the Armenian Apostolic Church will commemorate the memory of St. Stephen the Proto-Deacon. He became the first Martyr of the Christian church. St. Stephen was stoned by his fellow Jewish brothers for confessing the truth about Jesus the Messiah. Before His death, he was chosen to be part of the first group of seven deacons to serve food to church members: "They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them" (Acts 6:5-6). This is why he is called St Stephen the ProtoDeacon and the Proto-Martyr. St. Stephen was one of the first Jews who believed in Jesus Christ and accepted Christianity. St. Stephen excelled in wisdom; he was a very skilled speaker and a sharp debater during arguments. With false accusations the Pharisees brought him to judgment. During the trial St. Stephen gave a speech where he proclaimed the good news of Jesus Christ and declared His divinity. For that, he was accused of blasphemy and was sentenced and stoned to death. After the martyrdom of St. Stephen, persecution against Christians increased leading into many deaths and martyrdoms. ԳԻՏԷԻ՞Ր ԹԷ, Սուրբ Ստեփանոսի յիշատակութեան օրը կը սեպուի Ս. Խորանին ծառայող սարկաւագներու օր: Այդ օրը բոլոր սարկաւագները Խորանի ծառայութեան կը ներակայանան իրենց լաւագոյն հանդերձներով եւ հոգեւորականի սաղարտով: DID YOU KNOW? St. Stephen’s day is pronounced Deacons’ Day. This feast in the Armenian Church is appropriately dedicated to all deacons. They serve the altar on that day adorned with their finest orarion (ուրար) and attire. They are also granted the privilege to wear a crown (սաղաւարտ), which is part of the vestment of the priest. 7
Ս. ՊԵՏՐՈՍ ԵՒ Ս. ՊՕՂՈՍ ԱՌԱՔԵԱԼՆԵՐՈՒ ՅԻՇԱՏԱԿՈՒԹԵԱՆ ՕՐ Ս. Պետրոսը Տիրոջ 12 առաքեալներէն էր, Անդրիաս առաքեալի եղբայրը, ականատեսը Տիրոջ Պայծառակերպութեան եւ Յիսուսի հետ կապուած կարեւոր միւս դէպքերու: Այս առաքեալին առաջին անգամ կը տեսնենք Յովհաննէսի Աւետարանին մէջ, երբ Քրիստոս անոր մասին կʼըսէ. «Դուն Յովնանի որդի Սիմոնն ես. դուն պիտի կոչուիս Կեփաս» (Յովհ. Ա 42): «Կեփաս» կը նշանակէ «վեմ», յունարէն՝ Պետրոս: Երբ Պետրոսը Յիսուսին առաջին անգամ իր նաւակին մէջ ընդունեց, Անոր հրամանով ուռկանը կրկին անգամ ծովը նետեց եւ ուռկանը պատռուելու աստիճան ձուկերով լեցուեցաւ, Պետրոս անդրադարձաւ Անոր գերբընական զօրութեան եւ անկեղծօրէն զգալով Անոր նկատմամբ իր անարժանութիւնը՝ ըսաւ. «Իմ մօտէս հեռացի՛ր, Տէր, ես անարժան մարդ մըն եմ»: Յիսուս անոր սրտապնդելով ըսաւ. «Մի՛ վախնար, ասկէ ետք երկինքի արքայութեան համար մարդկանց որսորդ պիտի ըլլաս»: Պետրոսի մեծութեան գագաթը իր ծանօթ դաւանութիւնն է, որ Քրիստոս «Մեսիան է եւ Աստուծոյ Որդին», որուն համար Յիսուս երկրորդ անգամ զայն «վեմ» կոչեց: Պետրոս իր կեանքի նուաստագոյն օրը ապրեցաւ Քրիստոսի ձերբակալման գիշեր, երբ երեք անգամ ուրացաւ Անորա: Ապա խորապէս զղջաց եւ դառնօրէն լացաւ: Յիսուս ներեց անոր եւ վերահաստատեց իր առաքելութեան մէջ: Հոգեգալուստէն անմիջապէս ետք ան է, որ յանուն իր ընկերներուն, այդ հրաշալի երեւոյթի իմաստը կը բացատրէ : Պետրոս քրիստոնեական առաջին քարոզը եւ Քրիստոսի 8
յարութեան առաջին վկայութիւնը կու տայ, այսպիսով կը շահի, երեք հազար նորադարձներու երախայրիքը: Որոշ ժամանակ անց Հերովդէս թագաւորի կողմից կը ձերբակալուի ու կը բանտարկուի, բայց Աստուածային միջամտութեամբ նոյն գիշերը կʼազատուի բանտէն: Նոր Կտակարանին մէջ կը յիշատակուին շատ մը այլ գործիչներ, որոնց նոյնպէս «առաքեալ» պատուանունը կը տրուի: Անոնցմէ մեծագոյնը Պօղոս առաքեալն է: Թէեւ, Պօղոս Յիսուսին տարեկից է, սակայն ոչ մէկ նշում կայ Աւետարաններուն մէջ, որ ան Յիսուսին Անոր կենդանութեան օրոք տեսած ըլլայ: Պօղոսը երեք մշակոյթներու կրողն էր: Ծնունդով եւ կրօնով հրեայ էր, ուսումով եւ լեզուով՝ յոյն, քաղաքացիութեամբ՝ հռոմէացի: Իր ամբողջ հնարաւորութիւնները եւ կարողութւնները ի ըսպաս դրաւ Աստուծոյ արքայութեան քարոզչութեան: Արդարացիօրէն եւ իրաւացիօրէն եղաւ «Ծառայ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի», ինչպէս որ կը սիրէր ինքն իրեն կոչել՝ նամակներուն մէջ: Քանի որ կը պայքարէր հրեական ծիսամոլութեան դէմ, բազմաթիւ անգամներ ենթարկուած է շարունակական հալածանքներու եւ չարչարանքներու: Շուրջ հինգ տարի բանտարկութեան մէջ անցուցած է Երուսաղէմի, Կեսարիոյ եւ Հռոմի մէջ, հինգ անգամ գանակոծութեան ենթարկուած է եւ շարունակ տաժանակիր եւ հոգնեցուցիչ ճամփորդութիւններու մէջ եղած: Հայ Առաքելական եկեղեցին Պետրոսի Առաքեալի յիշատակը կը տօնէ Պօղոս Առաքեալի հետ միասին «Գլխաւոր Առաքեալներ» անուամբ, Սուրբ Ծնունդին նախորդող աւագ տօներու ընթացքին:

COMMEMORATION OF THE APOSTLES ST. PETER AND ST. PAUL On December 26 the Armenian Church commemorates the Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul. St. Peter was one of the 12 apostles of Christ. He was the brother of Andrew and the witnessed Our Lord’s transfiguration and the other important events related to Jesus. Peter was a fisherman. Peter was born in the village Bethsaida and later was moved to the town Capernaum where Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law. Peter is more famous from the part of the Gospel when he said that Christ was the Son of the living God. And Jesus stated that being the Savior of the world and the Son of God He would build His Church (See Mt 16:15-19). Two letters from Peter have been preserved. According to the tradition, Peter was martyred in Rome and was crucified head-down. St. Paul is the thirteenth Apostle of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He was born in the town Tarsus of Cilicia in the beginning of the first century. His parents were citizens of Rome who according to Heronimus had came from Galilee. First he studied in his native town and then he continued his education in Jerusalem. According to his own words Paul had been a Pharisee, had strictly obeyed the law and persecuted the Christians. However, on his way to Damascus Jesus appeared to Paul, after which Apostle Paul (whose name was initially Saul) became one of the greatest preachers of Christ’s commandments. He was baptized by the apostle Ananias. He has made several trips and preached the word of God. Fourteen letters from Paul have been preserved. The New Testament does not record Paul's death, but according to tradition he was beheaded in the year 67 in Rome during the rule of Nero. 10
