10% of Senior High School Students Attend Weekly Flag Raising Ceremony by YIRA PROCHINA
Only 1 out of 10 Senior High School (SHS) students, or an average of 10%, regularly attend the Weekly Flag Raising Ceremony, according to attendance data gathered by Project MAKABANSA, an initiative aimed at fostering patriotism among learners and employees.

Mr. Louie R. Naparan, Assistant School PrincipalDesignate for Senior High School Operations and the project leader, cited tardiness as the main reason for the low turnout. “Most SHS learners come to school late, which is why they cannot attend the Flag Raising Ceremony early Monday morning,” he explained. The ceremony is scheduled at 6:30 AM, an hour earlier than the first period of the morning classes, which begins at 7:30 AM. Some students, including Jabez, a SHS learner, expressed that the early schedule poses a challenge. “The schedule of the Flag Ceremony is too early,” Jabez shared. Mr. Naparan emphasized that gathering such information is a vital first step in crafting solutions to improve participation. “This is one of the steps forward of Pproject MAKABANSA, to gather data so we could make interventions to this issue,” he said.

REAL-LIFE LEARNING A group of learners from the Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) Grade 10 makes use of the equipment for TV Broadcasting in the SPJ Studio. Rhazel Nice Luna
To accredit the implementation of the Special Program in Journalism (SPJ), Trento National High School set up a studio for SPJ’s radio and TV broadcasting activities, and acquired equipment worth 100 thousand pesos. Trento NHS is one of the schools in the Philippines that have been implementing SPJ since 2012 but has not yet been recognized as official implementors due to the lack of materials and facilities.
