Year 9 Cricket Season Overview We got off to a great start in our preliminary round of the Essex Cup against Hall Mead. Boswells batted first and got 131 for 6, Green (43) Arnold (33). The rest of the runs were shared around like the wickets for us. The next game was our District Final from year 8. We batted first again against Shenfield and put a score of 123 for 5 off 16 overs and we bowled them out for 102. With Zac Chambers bowling 4 overs for 16 runs, taking 5 wickets including a hat trick. Also Sam Taylor got a very important 2 wickets and one was their main batsman who could have won the game for them. We lost to Saffron Waldon in the 1st round of the Essex Cup scoring 112 off of 16 overs, with Arnold getting a quick score of 33. However they won a tight game, winning with a few balls remaining. We played the year 9 semi final against our arch rivals Great Baddow. This time they batted first and they scored 88 and we chased it down in quick time, winning comfortably. As we got knocked out of the main Essex Cup competition we went into the plate. Our first game was against Campion. Again, we batted first and put a massive score of 185 for 5 (which is the second highest score recorded, the other by the current year 11's which is 200 for 4 and a top score from Brad Green of 110). In our game his brother, Harry Green, achieved 66 in 14 overs, helped along by Tom Arnold with a quick fire 37. Everyone got a bowl and we bowled them out for 88. The best bit of play in the game was when Ryan Brown scored 20 runs in 4 balls. We played the quarter final against Shoeburyness and scored a big score of 124 for 5. All was going well until the last few overs. They needed 44 runs off the last 3 overs and needed 27 off the last 2 and still won with 4 balls remaining. Our final game was against St Martins in the District Final. We bowled first and kept them to a score of 105 off 20 overs, with a good spell of 4 overs taking 2 wickets for 12 runs from Sam Taylor. We went on to win the game comfortably scoring 109 for 2 in 17.3 overs to become District Champions once again. I would like to say well done to Alex Critchell as he bowled consistently well throughout the season for us. Also I would like to say thanks to everyone who played for us - Harry Green, Ollie Prudence, Ryan Brown, Sam Taylor, Dan Cramer, Jon Sheldon, Tom Arnold, Alex Critchell, Zack Chambers, Ash Toomey, Elliot Cranmer, Harry Arnold (Year 7) and Rowan Clark (Year 8) as every player played their part!
