https://kitaid.net A few words about KitAid KitAid is a charity set up by, Derrick Williams MBE, who visited Tanzania on a WaterAid supporters’ trip in 1998. Derrick, being a mad footie fan, was amazed at the reception he received from children and adults in remote villages just because he was wearing one of his favourite football shirts (he follows Watford, Liverpool and Chesham Utd). After two weeks in Tanzania, a flame was lit in Derrick’s heart, and he was on a mission to provide kit and equipment to the bare-footed children playing with footballs made of tied string and plastic bags. Twenty-one years on, KitAid has lots of volunteers and to date we’ve sent out 900,000+ kits to children and adults in 55 different countries across the world.

London Lions History
In the summer of 1995, the players, and officials of Maccabi Association London (MAL) decided that they had reached the limits of Sunday football and that a new challenge was required. The Hertfordshire Senior County League was a popular choice, and the club made its debut in the 95/96 season under a new name of MALEX. Four years later the club had made many friends but had narrowly missed out on promotion from Division 1 in each season. During the summer of 1999, the club revised its management structure, and decided to change its name to LONDON MACCABI LIONS, whilst retaining its all-Jewish status. Under the management team of Bobby Fisher and Adam Solomons the 1st team lost only three league games that season as they won the Division 1 and reached the semi-finals of the Aubrey Cup. The club grew into one of the strongest teams in the Premier League but had to wait to land its first major honour in 2007 when Lions beat Metropolitan Police to lift the Herts Centenary Trophy. This was supplemented by the Reserves who were also promoted as champions, in 2002, and made it to three Herts Reserve Cup finals, winning one in 09/10. After a decade in the Herts Premier, in 2009/10 now under the stewardship of Tony Gold and Steve Grenfell, Lions won the Herts Senior County League for the first time in the club’s history, winning promotion to the Spartan South Midlands League in the process. The following season – the club’s first in the South Midlands Division One – they added a second Herts Centenary Trophy beating Letchworth Garden City Eagles 3-2 in the final. Lions were able to go on better in 2012/13, winning the South Midlands Division One title and promotion to the heights of the South Midlands Premier Division. The club also made their debut in the FA Cup, winning 4-0 against Clapton. Now just one league away from semi-professional football, it was a tall order for a team missing a number of players who had departed following promotion, and so 2013/14 saw Lions suffer their first ever relegation at the end of a difficult season. Having steadied the ship, the club decided to return to the Herts Senior County League for 2015/16 in order to rebuild. Seeking to promote a new generation under manager Andy Landesberg, there was immediate reward by winning the Anagram Records Trophy at the end of their first season, with most of the starting XI having come through the club’s massive youth set up. We then achieved an unprecedented treble in winning the league, Centenary Trophy and, for the first time, the Aubrey Cup. The club was welcomed back to Spartan South Midlands League where we have won further honours in the shape of the Division One Cup (2018), Herts Centenary Trophy (2019) and Spring Cup (2021) while threatening to get promotion to the Premier Division before Covid struck.
The club was reassigned to the Combined Counties League Division One in the summer of 2021 and we are again targeting promotion to the next step, as well as representing our community with pride. Alan Lee Reporting Arlesey Town 1 Leverstock Green 2 Leverstock Green followed up their big midweek win with another three points as they overturned a half time deficit to win 2-1 at Arlesey Town on Saturday. It was their 14th league win of the season, but the first they have come from behind to win. It was a difficult first half for the Leverstock team, firstly due to the heavy pitch, but also due to them playing directly into the sun behind the opposition goal. After a bright start for Leverstock with a couple of early half chances, it was Arlesey who looked the more dangerous side with a more direct style that suited the conditions well. In the 7th minute a cross from Rory Busby set up a good chance for Dwade James, but he put the ball over the bar from close range. In the 13th minute Montel Brown had a go from a free kick but it was turned round the post by Josh Bowler. Ten minutes later Brown had a run into the box, beating two challenges on the way but his shot from a narrow angle was kept out by Bowler. Brown tried again from a free kick on 28 minutes, but Bowler gathered the ball comfortably. Arlesey finally took what was a deserved lead in the 35th minute on the break. A slip from a Leverstock player in midfield left James with a clear run at goal, and he went on to slot the ball past Bowler. It was a second blow for the Leverstock side, with top scorer Radu-Mihai Stefanoaica having to leave the game just before the goal, being replaced by Lewis Collins. Leverstock had a bright spell at the end of the half, winning a couple of corners, but the home side still held their lead at the break. It was a much-improved display from the Leverstock side in the second half, as they adapted better to the conditions and dominated the game. In the 49th minute a cross from Collins just went over the head of Luke Beckwith in front of goal. Six minutes later a pass from Beckwith put Rawn Seale in on goal, and Seale took the ball past keeper Ollie Skinner, but his shot was cleared off the line by a defender. In the 63rd minute Leverstock won a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the box, but Collins’ effort went over the bar, and three minutes later Collins slid in to meet a cross but just failed to connect. In the 71st minute Leverstock were aggrieved when they were on the attack after the referee initially played an advantage after a foul, but then pulled play back for the free kick. However, the free kick worked to their advantage. It looked as though Dan Pett was set to float the ball into the box, but instead it was a clever routine as Ryan Carruthers laid the ball off to Pett, who took off on a run towards the box before hitting a low shot that bounced in front of Skinner and went into the net for the equaliser. Leverstock were well on top now and five minutes later they struck again. Pett and Beckwith combined on an attack which saw both trying to get shots away before Pett eventually hit a shot which Skinner could only parry away. Beckwith followed in for the rebound and slipped it past Skinner from a narrow angle to put Leverstock into a 2-1 lead. A display of grit and determination had seen Leverstock turn the game around, and they continued to show that over the remaining minutes to close out a win which lifts them up to third in the SSML Premier Division table. Development & U18’s Team News Leverstock Green Development put in a great effort against unbeaten league leaders Belstone in Saturday’s HSCL Premier Division fixture. There were several new signings in the squad, including Evripidis Grigoriou, on loan from Barnet, and his goal had the Leverstock side leading 1-0 at half time. However, Belstone struck back in the second half and eventually won the game 2-1 with a last-minute goal. The Development Team registered their fourth win of the season as they overcame local rivals Colney Heath Reserves at the Lords Builders Merchants Stadium on Saturday. Two goals from Callum Moore midway through the first half, the second from the penalty spot, established a 2-0 lead which was held until Colney pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time at the end of the game. Leverstock Green Development had their second win on the trot with a good 1 – 0 win over London Lions Development. Dylan Duane-Berry was our goal scorer. This win takes us up to 14th in the league table.
There was late heartbreak for the Under-18s, as they came very close to ending the 100% record of Tring Athletic in Thursday night’s SCFYL Corinthian Division game but were beaten by a goal deep into stoppage time. Tring had won their opening four league games, as well as having a long run in the FA Youth Cup, and they took an early lead. However, Stan Kenyon equalised for Leverstock in the 14th minute. The score remained a 1-1 until the 4th minute of stoppage time when Tring scored a winner. Leverstock Green’s Under-18s earned their fourth league win of the season and their first of 2024 on Thursday night. After a goalless first half, goals from Alex King and Oscar Martin put Leverstock into a 2-0 lead. Kings Langley pulled a goal back, but a further goal from Tom Rutherford sealed a 3-1 win.
