Goals from Steven Green, Richard Pacquette and Louis Bircham gave Harefield United safe passage through against Kent Football United of the Southern Counties East League Division One while New Salamis took the impressive scalp of Eastern Counties League Norwich United by the odd goal in three. All the goals came in the first half with New Salamis taking an early lead through Arti Krasniqi, only for the goal to be pegged back by the home side. But a minute before the break Derek Asamoah was on hand to restore the lead and that was the way it stayed. Risborough Rangers went through with a 3-0 success against Eastern Counties Long Melford courtesy of strikes from Liam Enver-Marum and two from Marcus Wyllie, while in the all SSMFL Premier clash at the Nolan Oils Ground it ended 1 apiece between Ardley United and Tring Athletic. However the visitors went through winning the following penalty shootout. Jacob Blackstock on target for Ardley equalised by a (scorer to follow) spot kick. Sadly Holmer Green, MK Irish and London Colney all went out of the competition. In the League, while Risborough were engaged in FA Vase action, Leighton Town took advantage to return to the top of the table with a 2-0 victory at home to Aylesbury Vale Dynamos. In front of a marvelous attendance of 449, many of whom obviously came to welcome new manager Paul Bonham to Bell Close, a first half Jordan Frederick goal, followed by an Ashton Campbell strike in the 2nd period took the points for the dominant Reds. Hadley got back to winning ways with a 3-1 success at Arlesey Town. Goals from Joe Bennett, Jordan Edwards and Sam Edwards were enough to take the points for the Bricks with Jalen Miller getting the consolation for the Blues. At Pancake Lane, Leverstock Green beat Broadfields United by 3-1, even though the Fighting Cocks took an early lead through Connor Spinks. Goals from an Ollie Lawford spot kick, Lewis Collins and substitute Elgeniy Daalberg took the spoils for the Trees. Harpenden Town treated the Rothamstead Park faithful to an impressive show winning 5-1 against the recently improved Oxhey Jets. Ivan Machado put the Harps ahead on 19 minutes only to be leveled just 4 minutes later. Just before half-time Jake Anthony put the home side ahead and further goals from Sam Jenkins, Joe Devaney and Harvey Scott after the interval put the result beyond doubt.

Oxhey Jets got back on track with an impressive looking 2-1 victory at Hadley. Always a difficult place to get a result, Hadley were ahead on 47 minutes when Jordan Edwards got on to the end of a throw with a looping header, but on 63 mins Sean Giordmaina leveled for the visitors and 15 minutes later Kyal Williams gave the Jets the lead which they held taking the points. It was something like the good old days at Creasey Park with an attendance of 435 watching Dunstable Town taking on top of the table Leighton Town and after only 16 minutes the Blues were ahead through Dylan Baker who scored his first goal for the club. But 6 minutes into the 2nd half it was all square as Ethan Flanagan equalised for the away side and that’s how it stayed. Meanwhile Risborough Rangers remain on the Reds’ tail, a point behind after winning by a Sean Coles goal at home to Flackwell Heath. Harefield United and Aylesbury Vale Dynamos shared 4 goals and the points after their encounter at Preston Park with former Dunstable Blue Chris Stapleton scoring for the Dynamos on his debut, while Ardley United and Crawley Green played out a stalemate at the Nolan Oils Ground. Arlesey Town took the points at Broadfields United winning by the odd goal in three. Jalen Miller and a Herson Alves penalty being enough for the visiting Blues while a Wilberforce Ocran goal early in the 2nd half took the points for London Colney at home to Milton Keynes Irish. In the county cup ties both matches were decided on penalty shoot-outs. Harpenden Town took the scalp of Southern league Kings Langley after a 1-1 draw, while the Trees of Leverstock Green were felled by Berkhamsted after a goalless draw at Pancake Lane. There should have been a further League match at the New Lamb Meadow tonight where Baldock Town were due to take on Holmer Green. However, Baldock’s landlords, Arlesey Town had inadvertently double booked the venue for a darts tournament. So we will have to wait for the Green’s visit later in the season and in the meantime we wish them well.

Alan Lee Reporting HFA Senior Cup 1st Round Leverstock Green 0 – Berkhamsted 0 Tuesday 26th October 2021 Berkhamsted win 4-2 on penalties. Leverstock Green put up a tremendous performance against their Southern League neighbours Berkhamsted, but for the second time this season they were beaten in a penalty shoot. The Green side soaked up a lot of pressure from the Berko side, but created some good chances themselves in a competitive game that could have gone either way in the 90 minutes. Both sides made a number of changes from their previous games, and the Leverstock side included Ollie Cox, playing his first game since returning to the club from Leighton Town. The visitors went close in the second minute of the game when Phil Draycott’s cross from the left found Alie Bangura six yards out, but Green keeper Juliusz Pazio kept his shot out. Pazio saved another shot from Lewis Toomey in the 11th minute, and comfortably gathered a number of other shots from distance. Leverstock had a few long-range efforts themselves which were saved by visiting keeper Xavi Comas Leon, but the best effort of the half came in stoppage time when Cox’s effort from 20 yards was turned round the post by Leon. The second half was big on effort from both sides but short of goalmouth action for much of the half. Berko had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the 66th minute when Alie Bangura was tripped on a run into the box, but Lewis Toomey skied the resulting penalty way over the bar. Three minutes from time Leverstock had a couple of good chances to win the game. Firstly a pass from Ryan Carruthers put Ethan Mooney through on goal, but his shot went just wide. Soon after there was another chance when a cross from Elgeniy Daalberg found Ollie Lawford in front of goal in space, but Lawford’s first touch let him down, and his shot was closed down. With the deadlock still unbroken after 90 minutes, the tie went to penalties. Kian Wilkes took the first kick, but it was saved by Leon, and although Mooney and Paplamin Jawara were both successful, Lawford’s kick was also saved. Meanwhile Berko scored all four of their kicks to win the shootout 4-2, and will now face a home tie against Hemel Hempstead Town in the next round. Leverstock Green Team: 1. Juliusz Pazio, 2. Crawley Green FC History Crawley Green Sports & Social Club was formed in November 1989 after arsonists caused the virtual destruction of the present building. Members of Stopsley Harriers, The Wyvern and Ramridge Rangers Sunday Football Clubs amalgamated to form the present club and were successful in securing a 99-year lease from the Council. The New Club house was formally open on 19th June 1992 by then Luton Town manager, David Pleat. The badge incorporates all the elements of the three founding clubs but also local history. The club badge was adopted in 1996 after many years of discussion. Maroon was the colour of the largest single club Ramridge Rangers and it was adopted as the club colour. It is incorporated in the Club badge as the bar across the middle. Stopsley Harriers were well known for their red and blue quarters, whilst Wyvern Members were predominantly blue since their foundation. Both these colours are reflected in the badge. Crawley Green FC Saturday side was formed in 1993 after another local team, Somerset Tavern came under the Crawley Green umbrella. The club colour of maroon was adopted by the team. In 2018 Luton Town FC and Crawley Green FC further enhanced their club partnership with the announcement that Crawley Green FC will play their home games at The Brache training ground from season 2018-2019. Crawley Green, who are the only Luton based team to play at step 5 or above of the National League System, have been trying since 2008 to get permission to build a suitable stadium. Unfortunately in that time they have failed to receive the support needed from Luton Borough Council, despite there being no cost involved for the Council. This decision has meant that they have had to ground share with Barton Rovers FC for 11 years now, to enable the team to continue to play at that level. This is a poor indictment of the Council’s attitude to football in Luton, considering that other major towns in Bedfordshire have at least one team each playing step 6 or above. Their lack of support in comparison to the likes of Biggleswade (3 teams), Bedford (2 teams), Dunstable (2 teams), Leighton Buzzard (1 team) and Kempston (1 team), means that even our local leagues have the ignominy of having to travel to local villages to host their cup finals. Luton recently installed a brand new all-weather surface down at the training ground and to comply with national ground grading criteria Crawley Green will complete the remaining requirements. This will include new changing rooms, dugouts, turnstile and spectator standing area. Tony Talbot, Chairman of Crawley Green stated: “We would like to thank Gary Sweet and Kevan Platt and everyone at Luton Town FC for firstly affording us this opportunity and then their support in making this happen. “In the past we have seen a number of ex-Crawley Green players go on to play for Luton, but our partnership has really continued to grow in recent years. It’s with great satisfaction for us that we are currently seeing James Justin starring for the first team. In addition the recently transferred Tyreeq Bakinson and four of the current U18s team, Josh Neufville, Joe Mead, Ciaren Jones and Michael Shamalo all came through our youth system. “A town the size of Luton needs a successful professional club, as well as teams playing in the national league pyramid”. This gives our talented youngsters a pathway to development, without having to go outside the borough to develop. “In addition, underneath these clubs is a large community hub, which affords lots of youngsters the opportunity to play football. These community hubs ensure all young people have the opportunity to participate in football in a safe supportive environment, which preserves the dignity and respect of the individual regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religion, disability, income and any other social deprivation. With Government statistics showing a concerning rise in childhood obesity throughout the UK, these community hubs encourage our children to stay active and engage in physical activity. This all helps promote health, self-confidence and importantly social cohesion, and hopefully leads to the wider benefits in raising standards.” Hatters chief executive Gary Sweet said: “We see ourselves as guardians of elite football in our region and part of that responsibility is to help – wherever possible – other local, aspirational clubs develop and thrive, staying at the core of their roots. “The challenges faced at Crawley Green were difficult and, with the great relationship we’ve had over the years, having recruited numerous young players from their excellent development structure, we’re proud to help Crawley Green retain a local home for their competitive games, just as we are happy to utilise our existing training facility at perhaps the only time when it won’t get used.” In recognition of his services to the community and sport, Crawley Green Sports & Social Club Chairman, Tony Talbot was awarded a BEM – British Empire Medal - in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List.

Be aware of your own personal health. If you show any of the Covid-19 symptoms you must stay at home, inform NHS Test and Trace and seek medical advice. Be responsible.
