First and foremost, sport is about participation and enjoyment. It plays a vital role in children’s personal development, helping them build confidence, resilience and teamwork skills. IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) is proud to host over 22,000 children in 190 events across 21 sports each year as part of the IAPS Sport and Pupil Experience programme.
Your Headteacher is a member of IAPS, giving your school access not only to these extracurricular opportunities, but also to professional development, training, advice, events, services, and
peer networks that support the whole school community. Your school’s membership reflects the all-round quality of education that its pupils receive.
Whether this is your first IAPS event or one of many, we hope you enjoy the competition and good luck!

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SPECTATORS
Spectators play a vital role in creating a positive and enjoyable sporting environment. All spectators are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct throughout the tournament.
1. Be a positive role model and lead by example. Children participate in sport for enjoyment; please support them without placing undue pressure on performance or results.
2. Encourage children to play by the rules and respect officials.
3. Respect all officials and their decisions at all times. Officials’ decisions are final, and video evidence will not be accepted to dispute decisions under any circumstances.
4. Respect coaches and behave appropriately at all times. Coaches give their time, energy, and experience to support the children’s development; inappropriate language or behaviour towards players, officials, coaches, or fellow spectators will not be tolerated.
As a spectator or parent, you also have a responsibility to:
5. Remain outside all playing areas at all times. Parents and spectators must not enter the pitch or playing area during matches, including at half-time, unless specifically invited to do so by an official.
6. Be friendly and respectful towards the opposition.
7. Promote effort and teamwork over results. Help children understand that commitment and cooperation are as important as winning, and that outcomes should be accepted with perspective.
8. Turn setbacks into opportunities for growth. Support children in reflecting positively on performance and working towards skill development and a healthy sporting attitude.
9. Be mindful of safeguarding responsibilities. All IAPS events operate under comprehensive safeguarding policies, available at: https://iaps.uk/sports/useful-information/ documents-links.html
10. Relax and enjoy the event! Your positive support helps create a welcoming and memorable experience for all involved.
SAFEGUARDING
IAPS believes that the welfare and wellbeing of all children (young people under the age of 18) and adults at risk attending an IAPS event is of the highest concern. All such persons have the right to safety and protection and any suspicions, concerns or allegations of harm will be taken seriously and will be dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
IAPS expects all adults who are engaged with the delivery of sports events to fully comply with safeguarding procedures as laid out in the IAPS Safeguarding Policy and Procedures, and the KCSiE document. These are available on our website.
IAPS expects all coaches present to be DBS checked and have received relevant safeguarding training at their school/club. IAPS expects that all adults attending
events have read the IAPS code of conduct, photo policy and anti-bullying policy. These are available to read and download from our website.
If you have any safeguarding concerns today, please don’t hesitate to speak to Emily Nunan, Mike Kershaw or a member of the organising team.
