KNOW BEFORE YOU ROAM

Before the Holy Grounds pull you towards their many stages, DreamVille is where the weekend first teaches you its way of life. You arrive carrying more things than any human reasonably should, then slowly start learning the intricate geography of campsite life: where to find a bite in the morning (the Marketplace!), where to get that first proper shower, and which District House can save you from wandering in circles under a high sun. It’s always a good idea to stick close to your group’s unofficial map reader – there’s always that one person – but they can’t be up to speed with everything right off the bat. Because between food, showers, sports areas, campsite services and all the useful little corners that keep DreamVille moving, there is a lot to be aware of before you wander off in search of your first drink. So spend a while on these pages, and learn the practical bits your morning self will thank you for!

the gathering

The first night at DreamVille has its own pulse: The Gathering. Tomorrowland’s official opening party takes place on Thursday from 13:00 until 00:00. All DreamVille guests are welcome, so just follow the music.

reusable cups

One cup, one Pearl deposit. Drinks are served in a reusable cup which is linked to your Bracelet or cashless card. Return it to a Cup Return Station, usually found next to the bar, and the deposit is refunded to the original buyer. No Cup Return means no refund –simple as that. Hold on to your cup like it owes you money, because technically, it does.

The Marketplace is DreamVille’s little city centre: food stands, drinks, a bakery, hair and beauty, the official boutique, camping essentials and enough small temptations to turn a quick grab into a half-hour wander. New this year: the LIDL Store for fresh groceries, grab-and-go meals, drinks and festival essentials.

Look for the First Aid signs in case of a medical emergency. During DreamVille opening hours, a first aid team and doctor are always present and they are there to help, not to judge, so always go to them when you need aid. Free earplugs are available at the Info Point and First Aid as well. Bringing medication? Carry a doctor’s certificate with you to show at the entrance if needed.

DreamVille’s Campsite Hosts are there to help, guide, and keep an eye on campsite life around the clock. You will find them on their rounds or at the District Houses. Lost, confused, worried, or simply unsure where to go next? Ask.

farmhouse breakfast

Pre-booked the Farmhouse Breakfast? Head to the Farmhouse and start the day properly, with croissants, pastries, breads, cold cuts, eggs, sausages, bacon, pancakes, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, smoothies and juices. Nothing booked? The Farmhouse & The Marketplace still have plenty of breakfast options to eat in or take away. Your future dancing legs deserve better than three crisps and a warm energy drink, so head on over.

cashless payment

Tomorrowland and DreamVille are cashless. Your Bracelet is your access pass and your wallet in one. Top it up with Pearls, Tomorrowland’s digital currency, before or during the festival. Then all that remains is the delicate art of pretending you are ‘only getting one snack’.

bbq zones

Dedicated BBQ Areas can be found near District Houses. The big barbecues are ready to use, and BBQ chefs can help if your fire confidence is bigger than your actual fire skill. For safety reasons, do not set up your own BBQ near your tent or on tables. Get your supplies at the Marketplace supermarket, then let the smoke rise responsibly.

At the Globe in the middle of the Magnificent Greens, The Cookie Factory by Biscoff is ready to make your morning routine a little more magical. The Legendary Baker welcomes you into a world of caramelised crunch, tastings, coffee and the exclusive Tomorrowland x Biscoff Sandwich Cookie, with a rich espresso filling. Try the treats, compare favourites with your neighbour in the queue and enjoy a sweet pause. It might be just a simple thing, a cookie. Until someone shares one with you at exactly the right time.

ring for sauce

Some decisions are simple. Fries or no fries? Sauce, obviously. At DreamVille, the Heinz BBQ areas give campers a relaxed place to grill, gather and turn dinner into a small campsite ceremony. Over at Brasa, Heinz adds a little theatre to the table: ring the bell and receive a sauce to match your meal. This is the kind of tiny festival ritual that makes people smirk before they have even taken a bite. Sometimes Joy is not complicated at all!

lost & found

Lost something? Found something that clearly belongs to someone else, like a phone, wallet, flag, sunglasses or one lonely shoe with a story? Start at the Info Point next to DreamVille Entrance 1, open 24 hours a day. District Houses can also act as lost & found drop-off points.

Every district has its own District House, which is useful when you have a question, want to swap an empty Tomorrowland battery for a full one, need an air mattress pump, or simply forgot where reality is after trying to find the same row of tents three times. They are also a good place to pick up your fresh copy of Tomorrowland Today!

showers

At DreamVille, toilets, washbasins and open-air showers are available at all times and are free to use. Covered shower areas are paid facilities with opening hours displayed at the entrance. These offer closed stalls with hot water, plus a few hair dryers, straighteners and electricity points. They’re still a shared facility, though – please leave the place as you would hope to find it in the morning when you come in to wash away yesterday’s emotions!

Concerned about your own safety or someone else’s? Talk to Tomorrowland staff, security, First Aid or a Campsite Host. Asking for help never ruins the weekend; it will actually improve it. Tomorrowland deals with any requests from the We Care A Lot approach, which is built around health, safety, inclusion, and looking out for one another without judgement.

Lidl joins DreamVille as the new retail partner, bringing fresh groceries, grab-and-go meals, camping essentials and a bakery to the Marketplace. In other words: their store is the place you visit for breakfast, sunscreen, fruit, something sensible and probably one or two extra snacks you did not plan for. You can also find fresh fruit sampling on the Main Avenue – ideal when your body suddenly remembers vitamins exist. And for those near the bakery at 14:00 on Sunday, keep your ears open. Something may rise besides the dough…

morning moves

DreamVille mornings have their own soundtrack, including: tent zippers, distant chatter, and someone brushing their teeth with overabundant determination. At the Adidas Gym, you can add a little movement to that ritual. Together with Les Mills, Adidas offers workout sessions to wake up the body before the festival takes over again. Need gear? Try the latest training pieces at the Testing Zone. Need support? The Bra Fitting Area helps you find the right fit. The Gym is not about becoming a new person before breakfast, it is about starting the day with a bit more strength in your onetwo-step.

the arena

DreamVille is getting its own Arena for daytime as well as nighttime acts. What will happen here exactly remains a surprise, but this would be the ideal place to wander into when you are not quite ready for bed and very ready for whatever happens next. There’s shows lasting about an hour every day at 11:30, as well as 01:30 on the Friday and Saturday night and 00:30 on the Sunday night.

chill out area

Not every reset happens horizontally. Some people recharge by lying under a tree, but others need sweat, stretching, a ball at their feet, or a boxing ring where yesterday’s late-night fries can meet accountability. DreamVille understands both species. The Chill Out Area, located between Magnificent Greens and the Marketplace, is freely accessible for every DreamVille visitor and brings together sports and relaxation. Go alone, bring your neighbour, or arrive with the person you met while comparing tent setups – it all works.

recovery area

The way to recover from the madness is by passing through it and the Recovery Area is there to help with a gym, group classes and even a boxing ring. The instructors will guide you safely, whether you train every week or have only just realised that your body contains muscles beyond those dancing calves.

For the real fit ones with energy to spare, there’s the opportunity to wake up with a unique 7-8km run across the empty festival grounds on Sunday morning! Departure point is the Gathering stage, 09:00. Check the Tomorrowland App for more information.

balance area

For a softer start, the Balance Area offers morning yoga sessions for every level. No pressure here: just breathe, stretch, and let the body remember it is more than a vehicle for stage-hopping.

padel & tennis

Padel is not leaving the conversation anytime soon, and at DreamVille you can play in the Tomorrowland padel cage or challenge friends to a tennis set. Reservations and equipment rental are available on the spot, and staff can even help team you up with other visitors. Perfect for anyone who packed sportswear just in case and now wants to see the returns.

Bring your own football, volleyball or whatever else travels well with a tent bag. The open field is made for spontaneous games, questionable tactics and good old-fashioned laughter with your (new) friends. And then there’s the XXL foosball (or kicker) table that you can play with more than 20 people...

sound on yoga

Some mornings ask for quiet. Others ask for quiet with a bit of a soundtrack. Sound On Yoga gives you a chance to move, breathe, and ease into the day without switching the festival feeling off completely. Only if you’re lucky enough to have a ticket, though; these popular sessions sold out ahead of the weekend!

the recycle club

DreamVille is your home for the weekend, but the way you leave it tells a story too. The Recycle Club is Love Tomorrow’s way of making recycling easy, so that we may collectively leave DreamVille in its pristine natural state. At the Club, you can drop off your recyclables, ask questions, borrow a tote bag to organise your camp spot, or collect unique patches. To make things even easier, Recycle Volunteers will be roaming the campgrounds from Thursday to Monday and handing out Recycle Kits with two bags: one for plastics and cans, and one for residual waste. Easy Tents visitors can hand over correctly sorted plastic waste bags to Recycle Volunteers during daily pick-ups between 10:00 and 12:00 at their tent.

recycling rewards

Recycle well, keep your camp clean, and be a good neighbour. You might earn a Love Tomorrow Mark, a physical patch handed out as a small recognition for doing the right thing. On Monday morning, two groups of campers who showed the best recycling behaviour across the weekend will receive something extra: a moving cart and a helping hand to carry all their gear to the exit. A small reward, yes, but also a very practical one!

STAY HYDRATED

A friendly reminder from Tomorrowland to your future self: drink more water. Not only when the sun is at its highest, not only when your voice has gone husky and mysterious, and definitely not only when it is almost too late. Thanks to the Drink More Water by Pernod Ricard campaign, you can find free water at mobile sampling units across the festival grounds. Make it part of your rhythm: listen to a set, sip, wander, repeat. Your Sunday legs, your Monday memory and the friend who always mothers the group will all be grateful.

POP STAR BEHAVIOUR

The Pringles karaoke bar is for anyone who has ever screamed along to a chorus so confidently that accuracy became irrelevant. Step inside, grab the mic and sing your heart out with friends, whether you are secretly brilliant or gloriously committed to the bit. Between stages, this is the perfect place to trade bass faces for power ballad faces. Tomorrowland has plenty of places to hear world-class voices. This one is for yours, and yours only!

Whoever’s been to Ibiza knows it: Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s residency at Ushuaïa has become somewhat of an institution. Running every Wednesday from 6 May to 30 September, the two well-known innovators have invited an impressive range of artists to join them, including Oliver Heldens, Steve Aoki, Robin Schulz, Alok and Brina Krauss. As they set to work, the Story of Planaxis, Tomorrowland’s legendary underwater world, transforms the iconic venue into a mesmerising ocean environment, where the magic of the sea rises and washes over the crowd. There is a new place to find Absolut this year: just behind the Mainstage and above the Fountain Bar. Come for the view, but stay because the music has already pulled you in anyway! FOU n DATION A PLACE FOR EVERY FEELING

A NEW DOOR OPENS IN LANGRUG

On 29 April 2026, the Tomorrowland Foundation opened its fourth Music & Arts School in Langrug, South Africa, created in collaboration with the Langrug Community Centre. Every day, more than 600 children and young people will now be able to discover a safe, inspiring place for music, creativity, rhythm and imagination.

The importance of that word, place, should not be underestimated. Until now, the Langrug Community Centre primarily focused on early childhood development for children aged 1 to 5, while also supporting youth choir and dance groups. The new Music & Arts School allows the centre to broaden its work, creating a longer pathway for children as they grow older. That means continuity. A child who first arrives shy and small can keep returning, keep learning, keep being seen through different stages of life.

This is not a quick intervention or a ribbon-cutting story that ends with applause. It is slower than that, more patient. It is the kind of work that happens when a teacher knows a child’s name, when a rehearsal becomes part of the week, when a room starts to feel like somewhere you are expected, not merely welcomed.

Some children need a stage before they ever need an audience. A real stage, perhaps, with a microphone that feels too big in their hands. Or something smaller: a classroom with paint on the table, a drum circle after school, a teacher who notices when a quiet child suddenly starts tapping out a rhythm with two pencils. Not every important performance begins in the spotlight. Sometimes it begins in a room where a child is finally allowed to be loud, soft, angry, curious, strange, funny, uncertain, or completely themselves.

That is where the Tomorrowland Foundation does its most important work. Far from the smoke, screens and stage towers of Boom, it helps create spaces where children and young people can discover what lives inside them through music, dance, theatre, visual arts and creative expression.

At Tomorrowland this year, Consciencia opens a world shaped by six primal emotions: Wonder, Love, Anger, Joy, Desire and Sadness. In a Foundation classroom, those emotions are not symbolic. They are practical. Anger can become a drum pattern. Sadness can turn into a blue line across paper. Joy might be a dance group rehearsing too loudly in the corner. Wonder, often, is simply the look on a child’s face when they realise they made something that did not exist this morning.

WHERE GIRLS CAN RAISE THEIR VOICES

In Kolkata, India, the Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts School by Ek Tara continues to grow as a creative hub for children in underserved communities. With financial support from the Foundation, an entire floor of the school was transformed into a space fully dedicated to arts, culture and music. Traditional and contemporary dance, theatre, visual arts and music production all have their own place there.

The rooftop terrace was also redesigned into an open-air atrium for performances and presentations. It is a beautiful image, but also a powerful one: a gaggle of girls looking out over the city, using their voices where they can be heard.

Since the beginning of this year, the school has taken another step with the opening of a professional DJ Room. Equipped with professional DJ gear, it gives students a hands-on way to explore music, experiment with mixing and build confidence behind the decks. International DJs such as Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren and Alan Walker, as well as chef Roger van Damme, have visited the school and witnessed how music here is not a luxury. It can be a doorway. A way to learn focus, courage, timing, trust and self-belief without calling it any of those things too loudly.

Vinita Saraf, co-founder of Ek Tara, will speak at the Love Tomorrow Summit on 23 July 2026, sharing more about Ek Tara’s work and its belief that education becomes stronger when it includes creative expression, life skills and confidence-building.

WHEN A DRAWING LEARNS TO TRAVEL

This year also brings a new Tomorrowland Foundation Collection, following the success of the first edition. Once again, the idea is simple and deeply human: put children from Foundation projects at the heart of the creative process. Whereas the first Foundation Collection was inspired by artwork from children at Ek Tara in India, the new edition travels from Brazil. Together with Estrela Nova, the Foundation’s partner project there, children were invited to let their imagination run freely. Around 100 drawings were collected, each one carrying a different small universe. Those drawings became the starting point for the full collection, transforming children’s imagination into wearable designs.

The new Foundation Collection includes two T-shirts, two hoodies, a bucket hat, a tote bag and, for the first time, a scarf. It will be available during Tomorrowland, through the Tomorrowland online store and on the Brazilian webshop. All proceeds are reinvested into the Foundation’s projects.

FIND THE FOUNDATION AT TOMORROWLAND

During the festival, the Tomorrowland Foundation is never far away. Visit the official Tomorrowland Store near the Mainstage to discover the brand-new Foundation Collection and take home a piece that carries more than good design.

You can also meet the Mobile Team at the One World bridge, everyday between 12:30 and 19:00. They will be there to share more about the Foundation projects around the world and to offer handmade Foundation bracelets. Each bracelet is crafted by the mothers of the children attending the Music & Arts School in Kolkata, India.

And then there is the travelling Foundation Bike. Keep your eyes peeled as the Mobile Team moves across the festival grounds throughout the day. Find the bike, purchase a Foundation bracelet and leave your mark on a collaborative artwork created by the People of Tomorrow. After the festival, that artwork will find a home within Tomorrowland Foundation projects around the world.

The scale of Tomorrowland can be overwhelming. The stages rise higher than houses, the crowds move like the weather, a single drop can shake thousands of feet at once. The Tomorrowland Foundation works on a different scale, however. It’s a child pressing play for the first time. A girl stepping onto a rooftop terrace to perform. A drawing from Brazil becoming part of a scarf. A bracelet made by a mother in Kolkata finding its way onto the wrist of someone dancing in Belgium.

When Tomorrowland first looked for a site in Latin America, landing in Brazil made total sense. The country’s history of rhythms and soulful voices has produced percussion-heavy styles of music including tropicália, samba and musica popular Brasileira, all very much sampled in current electronic music. The line-up for the upcoming edition of Tomorrowland Brasil, taking place from 30 April to 2 May 2027, will feature current Brazilian artists whose music often comes with traces of their country’s legacy, as well as a wide range of international electronic artists. Last year’s edition included headline performances by David Guetta, Alesso, Vintage Culture, Alok, Armin van Buuren, Anna, Miss Monique and many others. On Thursday 23 July, in the quiet between the two Tomorrowland weekends, more than 6,000 people gathered at De Schorre in Boom for the fifth Love Tomorrow Summit. Across six themes and over 85 speakers and artists, the day turned on one question: the future of intelligence, and what it asks of humans, leaders and societies. One World Radio’s offerings include everything you need to hear: new releases, burgeoning new club styles, and all that is otherwise related to global dancefloors. Take Armin van Buuren’s Weekend Kick-Off, broadcast every Friday night at 22:00 CET, which features the great producer’s favourite trance and progressive sounds of the moment. A wholly different experience is Sorry for the Noise by Amber Broos, who presents an hour of techno and Belgian retro-influenced music, every first Tuesday of the month at 21:00 CET. Still relatively new to the station is Carly Wilford, who presents her weekly house-centred show 4:4 out of Ibiza. “House music is still at the very core of Ibiza, musically speaking,” says Carly. “And it’s just great to present this show from the genre’s epicentre.” At the same time, she also observes that music is in a constant state of flux on the island: “Sonically, things have really opened up here with new sounds and artists becoming part of the club scene. You can see this reflected in our programming: we recently had Portuguese artist BIIA in the studio, an artist known for her raw, unpolished sound.”

LIVE FROM IBIZA

“I’m living the dream at the moment,” says Carly, who resides on Ibiza from April ‘till October this year. Besides 4:4, she is also presenting another feature, which is part of Tomorrowland’s greater presence on the White Isle of late. The name of the show, Live from Ibiza, kind of gives it away: “Even if One World Radio always had regular shows, presented by regular Tomorrowland artists, we never had a permanent base of operations where we could all come together in person. With the establishment of the Tomorrowland Store in Ibiza, all of this has changed. We have a huge terrace at the back of the shop where artists drop by all the time, either to just hang out or to record live mixes for One World Radio. Roger Sanchez, Lilly Palmer and Korolova are just a few recent examples of artists who have cheered up our crowds as well as listeners all around the world with their selections.”

BELGIA n ELECT rOn IC MUSIC HISTOrY

Tomorrowland’s line-up boasts an incredible amount of Belgian artists year on year and that’s not just because it happens in Belgium. In fact, dance music has a long history in Belgium, as the Dutchspeaking area of Flanders in particular functioned as a major hub in the Northwest-European electronic music scene of the nineties. This zone, where innovative electronic music was in a constant state of flux, stretched from Berlin in the east, via Frankfurt, Brussels, Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam to London, Manchester and Bristol in the west. A network of artists, record shops, labels, parties and clubs provided the perfect infrastructure for the early beginnings of the music that is so central to Tomorrowland to flourish like never before.

NEW BEAT, HOUSE AND TECHNO

There’s one documentary about the development of the electronic music scene all People of Tomorrow should watch and it’s simply called ‘The Sound of Belgium’. The makers of this excellent overview stress the simple but important fact that music never develops outside of its societal context. So they reckon that the music coming out of Ibiza during the late eighties and nineties sounded like sunshine, and the beats emerging from Belgium reflected rain. As soon as the house music from Chicago and the techno from Detroit landed in Belgium, DJs and dancers alike found that these new futuristic sounds mixed particularly well with the rather slow and industrial ‘New Beat’ and, to a lesser extent, new wave grooves that dominated the underground scene in Flanders at the time. And this happened not just in the cities, but also in the countryside. Underground music that flourishes in the middle of nowhere? You don’t hear that very often, but it famously happened in Belgium.

CHERRYMOON, LA ROCCA AND BOCACCIO

Small towns, villages, industrial estates and even more remote locations were home to legendary and influential Belgian clubs like Cherrymoon, La Rocca and Boccaccio during the nineties. Their countryside location was mainly due to one important factor: zoning and noise rules were a lot more lenient than in the cities. These venues drew dancers from way beyond their village limits. City dwellers from places like Antwerp and Ghent as well as clubbers from across the Dutch border would flock into these discotheques on Fridays and Saturdays to enjoy the unique blend of Belgian, American and European dance sounds. Dancers would travel hours to spend time on these influential dance floors, just like you do every year to reach the Holy Grounds. Many of the club hits at the time were produced by artists that returned to obscurity after this exciting period. Artists like A Split Second, Frank de Wulf and Le Mystere are not often seen on line-ups these days, but their original vinyl releases change hands for unreal amounts of money in shops and on online platforms such as Discogs.

DINO LENNY

An Italian, strictly speaking, Dino Lenny is included in this list due to his close involvement with R&S Records. The label’s motto has always been ‘in order to dance’ and Dino certainly lives up to it with his releases. He reckons his latest EP, which includes the track ‘Did This’ is his “most R&S-sounding record to date.”

Last weekend, Belgian rising star Amber Broos played a b2b set with her dad, who fed her Belgian rave music from the nineties from when she was but a wee child. This weekend, Amber is set to join forces with Australian artist Juliet Fox, who is known for her trippy and experimental take on techno.

PEGASSI

Sam Huybrecht aka Pegassi is much loved for blending eurodance, trance, techno, and house to create a truly uplifting sound that perfectly fits the Belgian tradition championed by labels like Cherry Moon and Bonzai in the nineties. So while Pegassi doesn’t sound like the nineties, you may say his sound is the evolution of that era.

THE ONGOING INFLUENCE OF BELGIAN RECORD LABELS

Artists, music styles and clubs were all part of a fertile local ecosystem which also included the pioneers constantly fuelling the scene at the time: record labels. R&S and Music Man from Ghent released EPs by international artists like Green Velvet, Aphex Twin and Joey Beltram, while the more locally oriented Bonzai operated from the back of a shop in Antwerp. The artists and DJs associated with this shop are the very same ones who still play Tomorrowland every year as the Bonzai All Stars. Among the label’s early fans is Joeri Broos, a DJ at the time and the father of Amber Broos. Joeri passed his love for the nineties rave sound from his country on to this daughter and the rest is history: Amber’s music is clearly indebted to the sound of Belgium, even if the sound she produces and plays represents a much more modern take on it.

TOMORROWLAND AND THE SOUND OF BELGIUM

Tomorrowland is now a truly global festival, but it is solidly rooted in the Belgian scene described above. Located right in the middle of the European axis of dance music, you might even say that there isn’t a more logical birthplace for the world’s greatest festival. The connection is still in place to this date: Renaat Vandepapeliere, founder of Ghent’s legendary R&S Records was once part of the line-up and Bonzai ambassador Yves de Ruyter is a regular performer here. The 2026 programme features over 200 Belgian artists across multiple generations, many of whom represent that typical sound of Belgium one way or another. To make things easier, we’ve selected five key opportunities to familiarise yourself with the electronic music heritage of the country you find yourself in.

DIMITRI VEGAS

‘Dimi’ and Mike – the latter sadly on a break from touring – are among the artists who’ve become most closely associated with Tomorrowland throughout the years. They clearly transcend musical genres with their ecstatic performances, and are highly influenced by this country’s rave history. Listen carefully and you may hear elements of the golden nineties in Dimtri Vegas’ set today.

Stefan Melis aka BountyHunter emerged from the Antwerp scene in the early nineties, when he released several hits on Bonzai Records, including ‘Bountyhunter’, ‘Woops’ and ‘Users Hunt’. Many of his early tracks feature the now classic ‘hoover’ sound, produced by the Juno synthesizer.

Possibly the most famous of all Flemish countryside clubs, Cherry Moon in Lokeren is a venue that is right up there with Ibiza’s Pacha and Amnesia. When in Belgium, there is one particular music style that you simply must sample, and it’s drum & bass – known for its explosive energy and delectable drops. Andromedik is fast becoming one of the genre’s most commanding figures, having sold out his own Antwerp Expo event and headline shows in Amsterdam, Prague and London all in the last year. Last October saw the release of his debut album, ‘Ascension’. SURPRISE

While the appearances by Dave Lambert, Omdat Het Kan & Average Rob and Regi b2b Yves V are all going to be more than worthwhile, it must be mentioned that there’s no Gathering without a surprise performance, often a rather unexpected set that unites sounds from different musical backgrounds. Tomorrowland is where all of these styles and many of the world’s greatest artists come together, which is why you may set your expectations rather high. Surprise acts generally play towards the end of the evening and gear you up for the musical grandeur that awaits during the rest of the weekend.

THE GRAND RETURN

He may be one of the biggest hitmakers of the 21st century across the entire spectrum of music, but Calvin Harris has only appeared at Tomorrowland once before, during the 2013 edition in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. This edition in Belgium marks the return of the Scottish genius to the Holy Grounds during both weekends for a show that is set to be the ultimate lineup highlight. Over a period of just five years, between 2007 and 2012, Calvin Harris evolved from a quirky, niche electronic artist to someone who not only worked with pop music’s biggest stars but also lifted many upand-coming vocalists to the next stage in their careers.

How did he pull it off? A reconstruction.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Whoever wants to get a quick idea of just how much Harris has changed only needs to rewatch the music video for his first single ‘Acceptable in the 80s’. It features a very boyish-looking Calvin who, neglecting the fact that he’s from up North, takes on an accent suggesting he’s from London. What stands out even more is the lofi vibe of the song; it has an infectious but indie feel to it that is miles away from his later collaborations with celebrities like Florence Welch, Ariana Grande, Rihanna and Dua Lipa. When his firs album ‘I Created Disco’ came out in 2007, no one, including the producer himself, could have foreseen his grand future in the industry.

PUNCHING ABOVE HIS WEIGHT?

‘Ready for the Weekend’, Calvin’s second album, hinted at a bigger, more mainstream path but put the producer in a position that most geniuses face at some point in their lives: he wasn’t being taken seriously. Critics sensed that he wanted to make music for stadiums but they reckoned he was punching above his weight – even if the album’s lead single ‘I’m not Alone’ knocked Lady Gaga’s ‘Pokerface’ off #1 in the UK singles chart. But little did Calvin’s detractors know there was more to come, much more…

GAMECHANGER

On ‘18 Months’, the third studio album, Harris stepped back as a vocalist and up as a producer. “I make the songs, I can’t stress that enough,” he famously stated at the time. “I am the guy that writes them, makes them and mixes them. No one really does that but that’s what I’m good at.” The hitmaker was quite close to the truth at that point: only very few, not quite no one, had been down the same road before. He was in fact doing something similar to pop music’s biggest orchestrators, people like Quincy Jones and Nile Rodgers. Slowly but surely, Calvin was becoming part of that league. While David Guetta had already paved the way for pop to cross over with EDM, the incredibly talented young man from Dumfries took it one step further. Ahead of the release of ‘18 Months’, Harris announced that it would feature collaborations with vocalists and rappers like Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Tinie Tempah and Dizzee Rascal. Now the critics didn’t have much to say anymore. Over the course of the following period, ‘18 Months’ broke an incredible record: nine singles off the album made it to the top 10 in the UK, leaving Michael Jackson, who held the previous record of seven top 10 singles off one release, behind.

HITS, HITS, HITS

In a world where A&R managers have a reputation for killing creativity by pushing artists to become copycats, Calvin made some bold choices in the songs on his most successful album to date. 2012’s ‘Sweet Nothing’, featuring Florence Welsh of Florence and the Machine, is a song about romantic superficiality, but the song itself is anything but shallow. Florence’s vocals escalate to the point where you wonder if it’s a little too much, but it leaves a lasting impression. Add to that Calvin’s hectic key programming and there you have it: one of the most memorable songs of the 21st century so far, despite or maybe rather because it was an odd one out. While the list of big collabs on ‘18 Months’ is impressive, especially given the producer’s limited career length at the time, Calvin didn’t just go for the biggest vocalists, very much to his credit. Ellie Goulding appeared alongside Rihanna on the record and for Ellie, releasing ‘I Need Your Love’ increased her reach enormously.

MELANCHOLY VERSUS EUPHORIA

The quality in Calvin’s music is often in the detail. Take his sunsoaked anthem ‘Summer’, which is enhanced with a simple yet effective drum roll every now and then; the song gets an extra boost every time it happens. Even more striking is the contrast between a slight melancholy and an upbeat energy in much of his music. Listen back and you’ll hear it in nearly every hit he’s made: ‘One Kiss’ with Dua Lipa isn’t just a party song – there’s also a thoughtfulness about it. The strings in ‘Outside’ come with a different kind of sadness to balance the energy of the drive and ‘Sweet Nothing’, while it has a mental energy, is all about desperation. These songs and many others form an ecosystem that is home to the many emotions necessary for a balanced human experience, just like in the story of Consciencia.

DON’T MISS THE GRAND RETURN

Calvin Harris’ grand return to Tomorrowland is not to be missed, that much is clear. Even fans of more underground sounds will find something to their liking in this performance, as the harmonies, grooves and lyrics in his songs are original and straight from the heart. Even if you think you don’t know his discography very well, you will recognise a lot of the choruses in what will turn out to be a wonderful trip down memory lane for everyone.

For more than a decade, Illenium has been proving that electronic music can be both earth-shaking and deeply emotional. The Grammy-nominated producer from Denver built a signature sound where soaring melodies collide with crushing bass drops and cinematic storytelling meets festival-sized singalongs. To him, vulnerability is just as important as volume. From sold-out stadium shows and headline performances across the globe to becoming one of the few electronic artists with a residency at the spectacular Sphere in Las Vegas, Nick Miller has continuously expanded the possibilities of what a dance music performance can be.

His sixth studio album ‘Odyssey’ marked another bold chapter, written alongside an immersive visual experience designed specifically for the Sphere, blurring the lines between concert, cinema and emotional journey. With collaborations spanning every corner of electronic music and an ever-growing fanbase that proudly calls itself the Illenials, Illenium now reaches another milestone: his long-awaited Tomorrowland debut. And for an artist who has spent years transporting listeners into other worlds, there may be no better place to begin a new chapter than here in the magical world of Consciencia.

The way Illenium approaches a DJ set has never been about simply lining up tracks. Every performance is designed as a story, one that constantly shifts between explosive bass music and emotional melodies, rock influences and euphoric anthems. It is a balance that has become one of his trademarks, and for Tomorrowland he deliberately challenged himself to push that idea even further. “I’ve always loved all types of dance music, so I really enjoyed putting my set together for Tomorrowland,” he explains. “It made me push outside what I would normally do while still making it my own. It’s all about taking people on a journey. That’s how I always think about my sets, and Tomorrowland is such an amazing place to tell a story.”

That desire to keep evolving has guided him throughout a career that now spans well over ten years. While the studios and collaborators as well as the scale of his projects have changed dramatically, the excitement that first pulled him into music remains exactly the same. “In a lot of ways it’s different, but in a lot of other ways it’s stayed the same,” he says. “I always want to keep things fresh and try new things, and I think that keeps me excited. I try to capture that feeling I had when I first started producing music. The studios and people I get to write with now have definitely

changed, but I always try to find that same excited feeling when I make a song I really love, and can just obsess over it for hours and hours.”

Rather than writing a traditional collection of songs, Illenium found himself composing music alongside an entirely new visual world, inspired by the immersive possibilities of his Sphere Las Vegas residency. “It felt like an amazing challenge to produce a show at the Sphere,” he recalls. “When the idea became more of a reality, it instantly sparked a creative fire in me. I’d never tried to write an album around a movie that we were creating. It was such a fun and different experience than what I was used to.”

Although Illenium’s music has expanded far beyond any single genre, melodic dubstep remains at the heart of his sound. His love for it goes back to the artists who first introduced him to electronic music. “Early on I was really into DJs like Tiësto and Basshunter, which was my introduction into dance music,” he says. “Then I started listening to a lot of Skrillex, Adventure Club and Seven Lions, and I really fell in love with that melodic dubstep sound.” What captivated him was the unique balance between power and emotion. “I loved the mix of energy and melody. The sound and feeling that music gave me was such an amazing escape. It really helped me find peace. I became obsessed with trying to make that type of sound and give people that same escape through my own music.”

Even today, Skrillex remains one of his biggest inspirations, while newer artists continue to fuel his creativity. “Lately I’ve been loving Subtronics, and I’m really excited to play my first b2b with him later this year.” Inspiration, however, comes from far more than electronic music alone. It might even come courtesy of heavy rock bands like Bring Me the Horizon and Spiritbox. Sometimes it arrives through everyday moments

that many people would overlook. “I’m constantly finding inspiration in all different types of music,” he explains. “I’ve been loving some Jon Hopkins recently. Of course I find a lot of inspiration in my relationships, like with my amazing wife. Or even just travelling around and looking out the window.” One of those moments literally became part of ‘Odyssey’: “I actually wrote ‘Paris’ on a train ride through France.”

When choosing collaborators, Illenium doesn’t chase trends. He’s looking for something much longer-lasting. “I think I’m always looking for something that sounds timeless. I just want my music to stand the test of time. I love working with people who inspire me creatively.” The same applies to vocalists. His music has always been built around huge emotional choruses that transform festival crowds into one giant choir. “I love powerful, anthemic vocals,” he says. “I love when everyone sings the songs together, so I’m always thinking: will this be something everyone just wants to scream together live at a show? That’s what I’m looking for.”

For Illenium, Tomorrowland represents more than another show on the calendar. It embodies the same idea that has inspired his music from the very beginning: stepping outside reality for a little while. “I couldn’t be more excited,” he says. “I love the world-building and fantastical nature of Tomorrowland. It really transports you to another world that allows you to escape reality for a bit. That’s what music has always been about for me.”

If there is one thing Tomorrowland has always celebrated, it is artists who dare to tell stories rather than simply play songs. Judging by the journey Illenium has planned, his long-awaited debut promises to offer exactly that.
