MALDIVES by The Turquoise Holiday Company

Page 1

If there’s one thing our clients always say when they return from the Maldives, it’s this: “I couldn’t believe the colour of the sea.” No Photoshop. No filters. No need. Just a hundred shades of blue that really are that blue. Think Bombay Sapphire bottle meets Parker Pen ink. Every tone, every tint, perfectly poured by nature.

This isn’t just a beach holiday. It’s seaplanes skimming across turquoise atolls, villas shaped like traditional dhoni boats and cinemas set up under the stars. It’s surf shacks and sleepouts, ice cream carts by day and cocktail carts by night, slides from your bedroom straight into the water. One island might offer tree-top dining and world-class wellness: another, cookery classes with local chefs or the chance to learn to dive beside a marine biologist.

Whether you’re travelling in matching swim shorts or packing both flip flops and heels, there’s an island here with your name on it. Some are set on former coconut plantations, others are playgrounds of barefoot luxury. And beyond the private pools and polished palm trees, you’ll find a deep-rooted sense of purpose, every island giving back to the people, the place, and the environment they call home.

Inside this magazine, you’ll find our handpicked favourites along with a closer look at the when to travel, how to get there and the magic in between. My favourite feature? A villa glossary designed to help you pick the perfect place to celebrate. Birthdays, honeymoons, anniversaries, or simply you. Because every holiday is a celebration of love, of time, of togetherness.

We’ve spent nearly 25 years curating the very best of the Maldives. And while this magazine is packed with insight, nothing beats speaking to our experts. Whether it's on a call or in person at our Beaconsfield barn or our Maldives-inspired bungalow in Battersea, we’d love to help. Let Turquoise be your friend and guide.

And when you return? I’ve no doubt you’ll say it too. “I couldn’t believe the colour of the sea.”

The Map

Let’s Dive In

You don’t need us to tell you that the Maldives is made up of a string of postcard-perfect islands, swathed in coconut palms and blessed with some of the world’s finest beaches and coral reefs. There are, in fact, around 1,200 of them scattered across the Indian Ocean, grouped into 26 natural island chains known as atolls –a word that comes from atholhu in Dhivehi, the Maldivian language.

What you might not know is that, spread over roughly 56,000 square miles, the Maldives is one of the most far-reaching countries on Earth – meaning every one of its islands is as blissfully remote as the next.

The resorts featured in this magazine are our absolute favourites. Each one kissed by sunshine, lapped by crystal-clear waters and offering the kind of ‘forget-about-it-all’ escapism that’s hard to find anywhere else.

Weather to Travel

Peak Season | January to April

The Maldives is at its sunniest during these months, with warm days, clear skies and brilliant underwater visibility – perfect for diving, snorkelling and soaking up the rays. Late April can bring a few unpredictable days but overall it’s the most settled period of time weather wise.

Shoulder Season | May to November

Expect occasional rain, stronger winds and dramatic skies but don’t let that put you off. This is manta ray and whale shark season, with incredible marine encounters and lush tropical landscapes at their most vibrant. It’s our team’s favourite time to visit.

Secret Season | November to December

These in-between months can bring mixed weather as the pressure shifts but it’s still a great time to travel if you're after fewer crowds, sun, showers and stunning sunsets. Pricing is also at its most competitive at this time of year and most of our repeat guests to the Maldives choose these months for a winter-sun escape.

Your Island Address Book

The Ultimate A-Z insider’s guide to the Maldives’ most spectacular stays.

This is no ordinary roll call of resorts. This is our insider’s low-down on the 27 Maldivian islands we know as intimately as old friends. Between us, we’ve clocked up 50 visits in the past two years, so when we say we know the Maldives, we really mean it. We know which General Manager greets you barefoot on the jetty, which surf instructor will have you standing on a board in minutes and which chef flips the best turtle shaped pancake.

We can tell you the price of a beer or mocktail, the massage worth booking twice and the kids’ club where your littles won’t want to leave. Because choosing an island here isn’t about if you should go, it’s about where and when. Whatever your budget, it’s about value, character and fit. We believe holidays should be guided by people, not algorithms and we can’t wait to be yours.

Ayada Maldives

A truly remote resort in the South of the Maldives, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, often referred to as the most beautiful region in the Maldives, Ayada feels wonderfully cut off from the rest of the world. You won’t see another inhabited island on the horizon, only nearby unspoilt islets that become private escapes for picnics and sandbank lunches. There’s no noise, no construction, no pollution, just the resort’s pristine, private house reef offering exceptional snorkeling from every side of the island.

The island itself is natural and utterly beautiful, with powder-white beaches and lush tropical gardens. It’s small enough to walk around easily, or you can explore by bike or hit the running track. Being the closest resort to the equator, Ayada offers the unique chance to cross it, complete with champagne and a certificate to mark the occasion.

There are a plethora of accommodation options, including spacious overwater and beach villas, some with sunset views, others to accommodate families, and all are designed with privacy in mind. Interiors feature hand-crafted Turkish design touches, from lanterns to bespoke furnishings. Guests can choose to be close to the recreation areas, where entertainment runs through the day and night, or opt for a quieter location.

Experiences range from surfing lessons to an ice cream truck on the beach, Sea Salt Beach BBQs with fire entertainers, private outdoor cinema nights, and garden tours in their Secret Garden, where you can pick produce to cook in the resort’s cooking club. You can also head to their 3,500 sqm AySpa with Maldives’ first vichy shower and private Turkish Hammam and enjoy tranquil treatments in individual villas, complete with their own hydrotherapy baths.

While ideal for couples and honeymooners, Ayada is also family friendly. Children up to 12 stay and eat free on our special offer, and the active Zuzuu Kids’ Club includes water sports, dance shows, and visits from local artists for quiet time. Turquoise guests also benefit from a special babysitting package for under-4s.

Baros Maldives

With just 75 thatched-roof villas and a no-children policy for under-eights, Baros is a haven for romantic escapes. The ambience is refined yet relaxed, with attentive, friendly service – it’s not surprising they receive so many repeat Turquoise guests.

Villas are either scattered along the pristine white-sand beach or set in a horseshoe over the lagoon. Divers will love the overwater location, with Baros boasting one of the best house reefs in the Maldives.

Deluxe Beach Villas feature a lush garden open air bathroom, while Baros Villas add a romantic touch and generous interiors. Eight of these villas include an extended terrace with a private plunge pool and alfresco dining area. Two premium options, set on a secluded beach and cocooned by tropical foliage, are enhanced with an infinity-edge plunge pool, with built in Jacuzzi, and panoramic ocean views. With dedicated loungers beneath a thatched parasol, these retreats feel like private sanctuaries you’ll never want to leave.

These wood-and-thatch Villas appear to float on Baros’smagical waters. Relax on a spacious outdoor deck, or descend from the private stairs directly into the crystal-clear water of the lagoon. Fifteen villas feature a private pool and a shaded daybed on a sun-drenched veranda, with steps leading directly into the crystalclear lagoon below.

Dining at Baros is as memorable as its setting. With three incredible gourmet restaurants, Baros has been perfecting their culinary offerings for five decades. Enjoy a barbecue for two on the beach, a private gourmet meal on the overwater Piano Deck reachable only by boat, a picnic on a secluded sandbank, or a candlelit dinner in a secluded palm grove. Whatever you choose, the dedicated team will make it an occasion to remember.

With its small scale, high service standards, and exceptional house reef, Baros consistently ranks among the Maldives’ most sought-after resorts for couples. Its combination of beach and overwater villas, varied dining, and easy 25-minute speedboat transfer from Malé makes it an ideal choice for a refined yet relaxed island escape.

Coco Bodu Hithi

Coco Bodu Hithi sits on the private island of Bodu Hithi in North Malé Atoll, just a 35-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport. The island is alive with lush vegetation, drawing in abundant birdlife and curious wildlife. Fringed with powdery white sands and clear turquoise waters, the whole aesthetic is pure, rustic island life - tropical and unpretentious at its core. Private nooks are tucked beneath palms, while day beds extend from secluded jetties, so whether you’re a couple seeking romance or a family looking for quality time, it can feel like your very own island.

The house reef is spectacular, wrapping close around the shoreline and making it ideal for beginners. You might even spot Pancake, the resident stingray with a missing tail, gliding past the deck at breakfast or the resident nurse shark sunsoaking near Aqua restaurant.

Dining here is unfussy yet full of flavour, with three restaurants (four if you’re staying in Coco Residence) and two bars to choose from. Tsuki, the elegant Japanese restaurant, perches on the second floor – perfect for watching the sun melt into the horizon across the vast ocean expanse. For something more relaxed, Latitude serves cocktails on the sand as herons stroll the shoreline, and each evening a singer and saxophonist set the rhythm for the night.

Accommodation ranges from spacious, breezy Beach Villas with private pools, to Escape Water Villas with split-level decks, outdoor showers and direct lagoon access. For something even more secluded and spacious, the Coco Residences sit at the far end of a wooden walkway, with infinity pools, panoramic views, and exclusive access to Stars restaurant and lounge. The design is very laid back, if you’re looking for Maldivian authenticity with no frills, no fuss, this is it.

Coco Bodu Hithi has a fun, relaxed atmosphere, but its greatest charm lies in its people. Family-owned and proud of it, there’s a warmth here that’s hard to manufacture; a smile, a wave, a cheeky wink that makes you feel part of the Coco family from the moment you step onto the welcome jetty. The décor may be simple, but the atmosphere and warmth is vibrant.

North Malé Atoll
"Small, soulful and steeped in heritage, this intimate private island is home to just 33 overwater villas"

COMO Cocoa Island

In South Malé’s sandy atolls, just 40 minutes by speedboat from the airport, COMO Cocoa Island is a Maldivian original. Small, soulful and steeped in heritage, this intimate private island is home to just 33 overwater villas, many of which are inspired by the curves of the traditional dhoni fishing boat. It’s a design that honours the deep connection between Maldivian people and the sea, a connection the island endeavors to share with its guests.

With powdery white beaches synonymous with the Maldives, a lagoon of dreamlike clarity and some of the most colourful reefs in the Maldives just a short swim from your deck, this is a place where nature always takes centre stage.

Dining here is as thoughtful as it is flavourful. At Ufaa, Indian and Mediterranean influences meet fresh island produce, with COMO Shambhala’s nourishing menu always available. Expect delicate seafood, inventive vegetarian dishes, and special themed nights that celebrate the chef’s Italian roots. Faru Bar brings a more relaxed mood. Think cocktails and mocktails mixed to match the sunset, fine wines, light bites, and the gentle beat of island life with your toes-in-the-sand.

Villas range from the split-level Loft Water Villas to the elegantly simple Dhoni Water Villas, which open straight onto the water. All share COMO’s signature understated style of light-filled interiors, natural textures and private decks for uninterrupted ocean views. Beyond your villa, the island’s sandbank stretches 800 metres into the blue, a dazzling walkway for sunrise strolls or sunset solitude.

The reef here is reason enough to come. One side offers a spectacular drop-off alive with turtles, reef sharks, and eagle rays; the other, calm waters perfect for gentle snorkelling. Daily boat trips can take you further afield, but many guests never feel the need as the magic is already on the doorstep.

The COMO Shambhala Retreat adds another layer of escape, with expert-led yoga and Pilates, Asianinspired therapies, a hydrotherapy pool, and serene treatment pavilions. Whether you come for the marine life, the wellness, or the simple luxury of doing very little, COMO Cocoa Island offers an experience that’s quietly unforgettable. This is a place where time slows, the sea soothes, and every detail feels deeply personal.

COMO Maalifushi

Set in the untouched Thaa Atoll, COMO Maalifushi is surrounded by uninhabited islands and some of the healthiest reefs in the Maldives. The seclusion here feels rare. The kind of place where the horizon is uninterrupted, the marine life flourishes and you can go for hours without seeing another soul. With just 59 villas and suites, all with private pools, the island offers both overwater havens for couples and spacious twobedroom beach villas perfect for families. While all ages are welcome, tots and teens thrive here, with Play by COMO Children’s programme thoughtfully designed with daily activities – the atmosphere is relaxed, refined and quietly grown-up.

COMO is synonymous with style and substance and Maalifushi carries the brand’s COMO Shambhala roots at its core. Their on-island retreat is a serene sanctuary, offering daily yoga, steam, sauna, jacuzzi and a well-equipped gym. With complimentary daily yoga classes and mats in every room, guests who want to keep up their practice can do so with ease. The balance of COMO’s ethos is key to note. This isn’t an exclusive wellness resort but a place where wellness is effortlessly integrated, the level of which is up to every guest.

Surfing is a major draw, with uncrowded breaks just minutes from shore and Tropicsurf on hand to guide all levels. Diving is equally celebrated, as are starlit picnics on deserted sandbanks and nights spent on neighbouring Lavadhoo – a private island where you can stay for the day or overnight, surrounded by glowing lanterns, with a driftwood four-poster bed and nothing but the stars above.

Dining options at COMO Maalifushi include Madi, serving fresh Maldivian-inspired seafood; Tai, where sushi and sunset cocktails meet and Thila, a laid-back, toes-in-the-sand family option, with adjoining games room for after dinner fun. Here it’s all about tropical minimalism. Think bleached wood, billowing curtains, calming hues and the pace is blissfully slow. Travel everywhere by bike or on foot, bathtubs are made for two and full-length windows bring the outdoors in. Whether you dress for dinner or dine barefoot, COMO Maalifushi lets you define your own style of elegance.

Constance Halaveli

Constance Halaveli, in the North Ari Atoll, is our second featured Constance property and Moofushi’s bigger, swankier sister. Instantly recognisable by its long, singular jetty stretching into the Indian Ocean (once the longest in the Maldives). Halaveli’s surrounding beaches are stunning and expansive, so finding your own deserted stretch of sand is never a challenge.

Before Constance took over, the island was home to a lone Robinson Crusoe-type caretaker. Today, it still stands out for its rich and diverse flora and fauna, with jasmine, frangipani and beach hibiscus somehow flourishing in the most unlikely spots. Families are well catered for, with the impressive Coconut Tribe kids’ club, for ages four to eleven, offering activities from sustainability to wellness, creativity, and hands-on science.

The Double Storey Beach Villas are a Turquoise favourite for families or groups of friends. Tucked away behind lush vegetation, they offer excellent privacy with direct beach access and are set to be renovated to comfortably accommodate up to seven guests, each with their own bed. Fifty-seven Overwater Villas are strung along the jetty like a set of pearls, with refurbishments underway to enhance their already impressive comfort and style. At the clasp is the fabulous newly renovated spa and Jing, a superb Asian fusion restaurant with a wine cellar boasting over 22,500 bottles. Each Constance property has its own in-house sommelier, always friendly and approachable and absolutely worth consulting, whether you’re ordering from the top or bottom of the wine list.

Beneath the jetty, toothless lemon sharks glide through the turquoise water. Back on land, Jahaz is the main restaurant, with Turquoise-inspired seating, while its bar has a sand floor and brightly coloured birdcage chairs suspended from the roof - part chic retreat, part Bond lair - and the perfect spot for a dirty martini (shaken, of course). Under the towering palms and the squawks of waterhens is Meeru, a wonderful seafood restaurant. Completing the culinary journey is Kaika, an elegant Japanese eatery. With so many temptations, you might find yourself clocking up extra laps in the resort’s infinity pool, complete with breathtaking panoramic views.

Constance Moofushi

Moofushi is a very special island in the South Ari Atoll, perfectly positioned in the path of the manta ray migration. With 110 Beach and Water Villas, it’s a relatively small island. Before the fantastic Indian Ocean–owned Constance Hotels group took it on, it was a barefoot Italian dive island, and it still retains that charming, laid-back feel today. Its location is an absolute dream for diving, with three lagoons surrounding the island and a spectacular house reef right in front of the resort. But you don’t have to be born with a snorkel to fall for the charms of Moofushi, there is plenty of character on the island as there is in the water.

The staff are brilliant; expertly trained yet with a friendly, ‘no problem’ attitude rather than the formal approach found on some islands. We love the all-inclusive offering here. It’s a step above most bundled offerings. Constance Hotels are renowned for their food and wine, and the quality and variety are exceptional. The main restaurant, Manta, is buffet-style, but individual food stations make each meal a culinary exploration, with the seafood barbecue a standout. Guests can also dine once during their stay at Alizée, the à la carte beach grill, though many prefer Manta for its more low-key atmosphere. It’s hard to resist an hour at Totem Bar as the sun sets after a day in the sea, on the sand, or at the spa - just watch those delectable cocktails…

With sea life and wildlife in abundance, evenings often bring their own entertainment. Eagle rays gliding past in formation, jumping fish, hermit crabs scuttling between the waves, and George the resident heron, standing sentry, on his one good leg, over the whole synchronised spectacle.

One of the biggest compliments any resort can receive is the level of repeat guests, and Turquoise has plenty of clients who return to Moofushi year after year. If you’re looking for an idyllic island with brilliant snorkelling and diving, combined with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, Moofushi delivers, whether it’s your first visit or your tenth.

Once a coconut plantation, it still thrives with its original vegetation, villas hidden among dense foliage and sandy trails, creating a setting that feels natural, untamed and beautifully alive.

Thatched roofs, coral walls and soft pastel interiors balance relaxed island living with refined elegance. Beach Villas cocoon guests in leafy privacy with expansive outdoor living, while Water Villas float above the lagoon in sunrise or sunset hues. Many of the pools are long enough for a genuine swim, echoing the island’s spectacular 50-metre infinity pool, the Maldives’ first Olympic-sized pool.

For the ultimate Maldivian escape, the new FourBedroom Landaa Estate crowns the island’s most exclusive beachfront, with a vast private pool and sweeping indoor-outdoor spaces. The Three-Bedroom Water Suite offers overwater living with sunrise or sunset views, a private infinity pool and multiple decks.

At the heart of the island lies AyurMa, “Mother of Life”: a 2.5-acre sanctuary that goes beyond the spa. Rooted in Ayurveda, yoga therapy and planetary care, it offers personalised treatments and nature-led journeys that honour both self and Earth. A place to heal, learn and reconnect, guided by one of the region’s most accomplished teams of Ayurvedic physicians, yoga therapists and naturopaths.

Dining is as diverse as it is inspired: Arabian mezze under the stars, handmade pasta and wood-fired pizzas at Blu Beach Club and Japanese teppanyaki at Café Landaa. Much of the produce is harvested from the resort’s own organic gardens, complemented by the freshest tuna and seafood from surrounding waters.

With four pools, including seawater and children’s pools, a padel court, and endless water adventures, activity is never far. Families are embraced with creativity and care: little ones are welcomed at the Kuda Velaa Kids’ Club (“Little Turtle”), while older children and teens can join the Trainee Marine Biologist programme or take part in inspiring conservation projects at the Marine Discovery Centre.

From June to November, the manta rays of Hanifaru Bay provide one of the world’s most spectacular marine encounters. Thanks to the resort’s on-call service, guests can be whisked out by boat within 30 minutes of a sighting, ensuring no moment of magic is missed.

Gili Lankanfushi Maldives

Located in the North Malé Atoll, Gili Lankanfushi opened in 2000 as the original all-overwater villa resort, Soneva Gili. Just a swift 20-minute speedboat transfer from Malé International Airport, it is set in the middle of its own lagoon with two aptly named mini sister islands, One Palm and Three Palm, it’s easy to tell them apart.

Turquoise guests enjoy a barefoot existence here, surrounded by 360-degree views of the Indian Ocean. Three accommodation jetties reach into the lagoon, with villas carefully spaced for privacy. At the ends are family villas or Residences with pools, perfect for families or small groups. Perhaps Gili’s pièce de résistance are the seven Crusoe Residences, your own private island, only accessible by boat, offering total seclusion.

The wellbeing of the planet sits at the heart of everything Gili does, with each stay contributing to preserving the natural environment, protecting fragile marine ecosystems, and treading lightly. Few islands can match Gili’s approach to sustainability, from coral line planting to leading the way in the protection and regrowth of seagrass beds, so vital to aquatic life, particularly turtles. At the heart of these efforts is Gili Veshi, the marine research facility, where guests join marine biologists for reef cleaning, wildlife talks, and data collection supporting organisations such as the Manta Trust.

Many believe, and Turquoise agrees, that as one of the original Maldivian islands to open its jetties, boardwalks, and overwater bungalows to the luxury market, Gili remains the standard to which others

aspire. It has a sense of place and a reason for being which others fail to achieve. The Swiss Family Robinson style of chic wood and thatch complements the ‘no news, no shoes’ approach, and even the room butlers are called Mr. Fridays, after Daniel Defoe’s loyal servant to Robinson Crusoe.

From its fabulous underground wine cellar to a blindfold dining experience, spa, and tennis court, Gili remains at the pinnacle of sustainable luxury tourism and innovation. It is difficult to say who Gili’s ideal guest is, and that is simply because it is, and remains, practically perfect in every way. We love Gili, and Gili will love you.

“The underwater spa is the resort’s calling card, the first and only of its kind”

Located in the North Malé Atoll, just a 30-minute speedboat from Malé, Huvafen Fushi is a jewel of an island measuring only 350m by 150m. You can wander its shores in just ten minutes, yet this island is a private world of barefoot luxury. Fortysix bungalows and pavilions, each with its own plunge pool, promised seclusion, sleek style and uninterrupted Indian Ocean views.

Extremely intimate and luxurious and although you can see islands in the distance, there is nothing close, so it still feels totally remote. Rooms are a perfect blend of calming neutral tones, and high-tech ease – offering the most comfortable island living you can image, without losing its laid-back soul. Every guest also has a Thakuru (personal butler), and service is as polished as it gets.

Huvafen Fushi

The underwater spa is the resort’s calling card, the first and only of its kind in the world. Bright, colourful coral and reef fish drift past you as you immerse yourself in a sensory delight and melt into a massage. Come evening, it transforms into one of the most surreal and mesmerizing dining spots in the Maldives. Other dining moments include barefoot tandoor feasts under the stars, Japanese Latin plates at SALT, sandbank picnics or wine and cheese tastings in Vinum, the Maldives’ first underground cellar holding over 5,000 bottles. Before indulging in one of four restaurants, make your way to the sunset deck for a perfectly timed sundowner and the chef’s special canapés, served exclusively as the sun slips below the horizon.

Huvafen is pristine, beautifully manicured, and wrapped in turquoise water with a great house reef just 25 metres from shore. Turtles and nurse sharks are regular visitors, and guests can join coral propagation and reef restoration projects with the resident marine biologist.

Best for couples or friends who like their luxury with a little theatre, Huvafen is where you can have breakfast eight metres underwater, sip wine in a cellar beneath the sand, and float away in a saltwater pool under the stars. It’s a place that feels small enough to call your own, yet with huge personality that will keep surprising you.

An ultra-luxe island escape born from the vision of Turkish entrepreneur Esin Gural Argat, who fell in love with the Maldives and created sister property JOALI Maldives, dedicated to the joy of living, this island is her love letter to balance, restoration and joy.

Here, holidays are infused with the Joy of Weightlessness, giving guests a sense of freedom, lightness and wonder. Each stay is guided by four core pillars: Mind (harmony, self-expression and resilience), Skin (confidence and rejuvenation), Microbiome (nurturing the gut for energy, immunity and radiance) and Energy (physical vitality through mindful movement).

The 68 ‘well-living spaces’ – never just villas or rooms –follow biophilic design principles, in tune with nature’s rhythm and free from any ‘negative vibrations’, each with a private pool and your very own villa host or Jadugar (magician in the Dhivehi). From one-bedroom retreats for couples to four-bedroom sanctuaries for groups, there’s room for every kind of traveller. Children are warmly welcomed which is a rare find in a wellbeing resort, with summer camps, school holiday programmes and B’Kidult, a whimsical playground for all ages, giving parents the gift of time to truly re-set.

Dining here is both nourishing and full of flavour, from Mediterranean plates to Middle Eastern feasts, poolside bites to romantic date-night dinners, proof that eating well can be joyful and energising. Menus span meat, pescatarian and plant-based cuisines, each with its own dedicated kitchen, so every preference is catered to with

care. And whether your evening calls for a fresh-pressed juice, a crafted mocktail, or a celebratory glass of wine or champagne, the choice is always yours. You’ll leave feeling lighter, stronger, and glowing from within.

Wellbeing here is a multi-sensory journey: glass-fronted saunas, steam rooms, ice fountains, hydro pools, salt rooms, a yoga sala, boxing, Pilates, personal training and the Maldives’ first cryotherapy chamber, a vast state-of-the-art gym, tennis and padel tennis courts, two Watsu pools and even a private sound healing room. The Herbology Bar offers botanical blends, while the Sound Path turns a simple sound bath into an immersive, restorative voyage. There’s also a deep commitment to the natural world, with three turtle conservation sanctuaries and a coral nursery restoration project.

This is no intimidating boot camp. JOALI BEING is an ultra-luxury sanctuary that welcomes you as you are, and sends you home with mind, body and soul renewed. It’s a Maldivian holiday unlike any other, where every detail works in harmony to make you feel whole again.

JOALI Maldives, located in the Raa Atoll on Muravandhoo Island, is the only art-immersive resort in the Maldives, with every corner curated to surprise, engage and inspire. Here, luxury feels both playful and poetic. Every need is thought through and anticipated from the moment your Jadugar (personal butler) greets you, to the villa iPad that sweeps open the curtain to reveal endless ocean views.

The villas here are vast, with soaring ceilings, huge outdoor decks where you can happily spend an entire day on, accompanied by oversized pools. Each is an art gallery in itself, with a combination of bare-foot beach luxury and couture design, they have a totally refined feel with extraordinary attention to detail.

Art is woven into the island’s soul and every guest’s experience. From bird’s nest swing chairs to a giant thatched manta ray floating in the treetops, JOALI is filled with playful, thought-provoking works by celebrated names such as artist Porky Hefer, sculptor Seckin Pirim and glassmaker Feleksan Onar. Each work blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings - even underwater, where a marine art garden made from reclaimed bronze, glass and salvaged materials awaits.

South Ari Atoll

LUX* South Ari Atoll

One of the largest islands in the Maldives, LUX* South Ari Atoll stretches across 1.8km of sandy pathways, yet it remains totally walkable (and runnable!) for those staying active on holiday. Bikes and golf buggies are available for all, especially handy for little legs. Shaded trails make ideal strolling territory for buggy naps and baby carriers, it’s these details we know that matter.

From the moment you arrive, ice cream in hand, you’ll know this is a place where children of all ages are genuinely welcome. With large beaches and calm, shallow waters, it’s perfect for toddlers or less confident swimmers taking their first ocean dip. The PLAY kids’ club accepts children from three years old (most islands are 4yrs and up) and is open from 9am to 7pm daily, giving everyone their share of ‘us’ and ‘me’ time. Cleverly, it sits right beside MIXE, our favourite beachside breakfast spot and just steps from VELI bar and pool, where parents can relax in peace, close to the action but in their own oasis.

Complimentary movie nights under the stars, daily snorkelling trips (the house reef is a short boat ride away) and eight dining venues that cater to every mood, taste, and time zone keep ticking boxes for those who want a larger, all-inclusive island experience. The island’s location in the South Ari Atoll, is adjacent to the world’s largest congregation of whale sharks, year-round, a

bucket list wonder to experience above or below the water. And, while the house reef doesn’t hug the shoreline, the small distance and increase in depth from the beach means for an abundance of marine life, colour and coral.

The vibe? Contemporary, fresh and fun. There’s an atmosphere if you want it – always – but the island’s size means there’s also plenty of quiet corners to escape to. For couples, the sunrise-facing Water Villas or indulgent Infinity Pool Water Villas are ideal. For families, the Family Beach Pavilions are some of the best priced multi-room accommodations in the Maldives, offering two full bedrooms, blackout blinds for little ones and proper beds for tots to teens.

Milaidhoo Maldives

Set in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, just a 35-minute seaplane from Malé, Milaidhoo is a tiny, ultra-luxe island with only 50 enormous pool villas, each with an infinity pool so big you could spend the whole day in your own private world. Many Turquoise guests do exactly that, retreating into the generous indoor and outdoor spaces, with a personal host on hand to arrange anything from champagne breakfasts on your deck to private snorkelling trips. Moments from Hanifaru Bay, renowned for its seasonal manta ray gatherings, you might tick off a bucket-list experience right on your doorstep.

Villas curve around the lagoon or hide under palms on the beach, all designed for total privacy. Every detail feels personal rather than ostentatious, with a focus on comfort, space and uninterrupted views. Step off your deck straight into the sea and you’ll find one of the Maldives’ most impressive house reefs, teeming with marine life.

Dining is a highlight, with four restaurants including Ba’theli lounge & restaurant, the only restaurant in the Maldives set on a traditional Maldivian sailing boat, serving creative local-inspired dishes under the stars. The Shoreline Grill is the place for freshly grilled seafood and prime cuts, while Ocean Restaurant offers relaxed, toes-in-the-sand breakfasts and lunches.

Step off the seaplane and you’ll likely be met at the jetty by your island host, coconut in hand, before a buggy

winds you through hibiscus-lined paths where fruit bats swoop overhead. It’s the sort of welcome that feels like arriving at a friend’s island home rather than checking into a resort.

Activities here are truly embedded in experiencing the Maldives at its most authentic. From traditional Maldivian fishing to selecting local herbs and creating Maldivian inspired recipes with the chef. With incredible diving and snorkelling excursions, you will also get to experience the best of the Maldivian underwater world.

Designed specifically for couples seeking privacy, exclusivity and experiences that feel truly theirs, as well as discovering the rich culture and nature the Maldives offer. Malaidhoo is understated luxury at its very best.

Soneva Fushi

One of the largest islands in the Maldives, yet effortlessly chic, Soneva Fushi redefined the castaway escape when it opened in 1995 – setting the gold standard for the ‘barefoot luxury’ ethos that so many now try to imitate. Once a coconut plantation, its name means, “coconut timber”, this lush green island is home to over 2,000 palms, many of which feature in the indulgent cuisine served across its eight restaurants.

Fringed by powder soft white sand, and lapped by Tiffany blue waters, Vakkaru’s barefoot-luxury lifestyle appeals to couples, families and seasoned Turquoise Maldives travellers. Timelessness runs through everything here, from ancient rituals at Merana Spa to leisurely games on the new padel tennis court and impeccable service, it makes it all feel effortless.

Accommodation is understated yet sophisticated, blending natural tones with contemporary Maldivian design. Beach villas nestle among palm trees just steps from the sand, while overwater villas stand above the lagoon with glass panels framing the blues below. Many come with infinity pools too.

The island’s most remarkable feature is its series of deep blue holes in the lagoon – a rare snorkelling phenomenon found nowhere else in Turquoise’s Maldives collection. These natural underwater canyons are havens for marine life, offering unforgettable exploration for snorkellers and divers alike.

Splash, the aqua programme, offers incredible activities including parasailing with breathtaking ocean views and snorkelling both the house reef and the unique blue holes. Families will love the

Parrot Fish Club for ages 3 – 12 years where your creative little ones can join in on pizza-making or tie dye classes, while thrill seekers can enjoy exhilarating speedboat rides and Maldivian dodgeball.

Dining is a highlight, with eight restaurants, two bars, and an impressive wine cellar, Vakkaru Reserve, recently earning the prestigious Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence for 2024. Enjoy the signature open-air grill at Vakku, Southeast Asian flavours at Onu, or sushi at the buzzing Lagoon Bar.

With no other islands in sight, a thriving house reef, and rare blue-hole dives, Vakkaru delivers on an unforgettable Maldivian escape. It’s no wonder guests - including a certain pop icon, Madonnareturn again and again.

To experience rare blue-hole adventures and pass time in elegant, Maldivian style villas call 0207 147 7087 or email maldives@turquoiseholidays.co.uk

Velassaru Maldives

Just 25 minutes by speedboat from Malé, Velassaru is the perfect choice for those who want to arrive and start relaxing almost immediately. The transfer is seamless, with cold towels and chilled water waiting onboard, and before you know it, you are stepping onto one of the Maldives’ most dazzling white-sand beaches.

The island has a chic yet laid-back feel, with a sweeping lagoon that invites both early-morning swims and impromptu sunset dips. You can loop the island in 20 minutes, yet there is plenty to fill your days, from complimentary guided snorkelling twice a week to kayaking, paddleboarding, tennis and a full PADI dive centre. While the house reef has limited coral, marine life is still present, with regular sightings of stingrays, eagle rays and reef sharks.

There are 129 villas and bungalows in 9 categories, from the comfortable Deluxe Villas set back from the beach to sleek Beach Villas with direct sand access and private pools. Water Villas arc out over the lagoon, of which we would recommend villas 401 to 412 for uninterrupted, endless ocean views. Bathrooms are particularly beautiful here, with indoor-outdoor layouts and thoughtful touches. Families with older children can request one of the few interconnecting options, while couples will love the more secluded villa locations.

There are five restaurants and two bars offering everything from Teppanyaki over the water to romantic feet-in-thesand dinners at Sands. Chill Bar is the go-to for sunset cocktails, while Turquoise serves laid-back lunches by the pool. The Velassaru Indulgence package allows dining across all venues without restrictions and is well

worth it for the variety alone.

Evenings have a gentle buzz, with live music or DJ sets, and the overwater spa pavilions are perfect for unwinding before dinner. While you may glimpse Malé from some points, it is rarely a distraction. The sunsets here are spectacular, and at night the skyline glitters like distant stars.

For couples, honeymooners or families with older children seeking an easy-to-reach island with stylish surroundings and outstanding value call 0207 147 7087 or email maldives@turquoiseholidays.co.uk.

Seaplanes &

If Concorde is the most beautiful plane ever made, then the Otter is the ugly duckling of aviation – but beauty is in the eye of the beholder…

The Maldives is made up of 1,190 islands, of which only around 200 are inhabited. The country has just 115 square miles of land, scattered across 35,000 square miles of shimmering turquoise water. Out here, there are really only two ways to get around: by boat or by air.

There are thirteen domestic airports in the Maldives, connecting far-flung islands to the capital. For some resorts, this means a domestic flight followed by a short speedboat ride, a great option when distances are greater. But for most of our further islands, the seaplane is the way to go..

The Maldives is the seaplane capital of the world, with over 100 aircraft operating from Noovilu terminal, just minutes from the international airport. Every resort we work with has its own lounge here, the perfect place to sip a drink and watch seaplanes skim the lagoon.

The workhorse of the skies is the Canadian-built Twin Otter — a rugged, reliable aircraft used everywhere from Arctic ice to tropical jungles. In the Maldives, it’s fitted with floats for water landings, making it ideal for hopping between atolls. With space for sixteen passengers, an open cockpit view of the pilots, and flight altitudes of just 2,000–6,000 feet, the views of the reefs below are unforgettable.

Flights are usually under an hour, sometimes stopping at other islands en route. It can be noisy and warm on the ground, so we give all Turquoise guests a handheld fan — a little touch to keep you cool. Landings are either on a resort jetty or a floating platform, where the island’s boat whisks you the final minutes ashore.

Seaplanes have an excellent safety record, but they only fly in daylight, so all trips are completed before dusk — sometimes with an aircraft moored overnight, ready to depart at first light.

Speedboats

Perfect for islands closer to Malé, speedboats depart directly from the newly refurbished international terminal and whisk you away in style. It’s a “wind in your hair, salt on your skin” kind of ride — the perfect antidote to a long-haul flight. Most journeys are 30–40 minutes, with boats ranging from sleek small craft to large launches and even private yachts, depending on the resort and guest numbers. Quick, efficient, and always with that sense of heading somewhere extraordinary.

From our FAMILY to YOURS

We are specialists because we know the details that make the difference. Which resorts have toddler bikes, which marine biologist inspires budding scientists, and which chef will conjure up dairy-free pizza at midnight. We’ve travelled here with our own families and we’re obsessed with the details which turn holidays into foundational experiences.

The Maldives is our number one family destination and for good reason. A direct overnight flight from London whisks you to turquoise lagoons with little (4hrs) jet-lagged drama.

Once you arrive, the islands do the rest. Safe, selfcontained and with service that anticipates every need, this is where family travel feels effortless. From toddlers on trikes to teens chasing waves, boat trips with grandparents to outdoor movie nights, the Maldives is paradise for all ages.

Our Families

Tinies (0–4 years)

Travelling with little ones? After a long flight, short speedboat rides or quick seaplane hops make all the difference. Most kids’ clubs start from 4yrs, apart from LUX* and Niyama who welcome tinies from 3yrs (and at Niyama babies from 12 months), while Soneva includes two hours of babysitting daily – these are the touches we’re looking for.

We love the shallow lagoons at Moofushi, the kids pool at Four Seasons and throughout our family collection, bikes with baby seats, tiny flip flops, in-room monitors, bottle warmers, pre-stocked nappies – you name it. Rooms are key too – Dhigali, LUX* and Ayada mean naps for them without darkness for you, with separate sleeping spaces and beachfront abodes. All-inclusive peace of mind? Most of our go-to family favourites make sure seven cheese toasties don’t cost the earth.

Insider Tip: Bring child-sized over-ear headphones for seaplanes – the adult ones can slide off and the engines can overstimulate for tired tinies.

Tots (4–12 years)

This is the golden age. Kids’ clubs brim with treasure hunts, cooking classes and marine biology sessions, but the island you choose is itself is the real playground.

Think interconnecting villas, beachfront gardens and family suites with space to play. Snorkelling lessons, first surfs and football pitches hiding in the jungle. Add tennis, padel, movie nights under the stars, mocktail making and barefoot cricket, the myth of there’s nothing to do in the Maldives is officially out of date.

Insider Tip: Every island boasts an amazing kids club. The important thing is to pair your child’s passions –science, sport or sandcastles – with the right island.

Teens (13–18 years)

Independence matters. Too old for kids’ clubs, too young to sit still, we understand that teens thrive on space and energy. The Maldives delivers: teen lounges at Soneva and Constance, climbing walls at Anantara Kihavah, tennis competitions at Four Seasons.

Adventure rules on the water, from surf schools and dive centres to snorkel safaris and fishing. A sunset spa with mum, a padel match with dad, or cinema on the sand with new friends.

Insider Tip: Choose an island with the right vibe. Some fizz into the night, others wind down with the sunset –we’ll match the mood to your teen and your family

Grown-Up Kids & Multi-Generational Groups

For students back from uni or grandparents in town, the Maldives works beautifully. Large villas keep everyone close but with space to breathe. Buzzier islands mean dinners that flow late, while quieter ones cater to little ones with happy hour suppers and early nights.

Insider Tip:

Most islands in the Maldives define a child as 12 years or under – this is reflected in the accommodation rate and board basis supplement. However, a few of our top family resorts don’t implement higher rates until 15 years which can make a huge difference!

Every Reason,

Every Season

From candles to cocktails, balloons to bungalows, first dances to first dives

Milestones in the Maldives

The Maldives may be the world’s most iconic honeymoon destination, but these dreamy islands are fast becoming the go-to for every kind of celebration. From milestone birthdays and anniversaries to graduations and “just because” escapes, there’s no better place to mark life’s big (and little) moments.

At Turquoise, we know how to match each occasion with the perfect island. Multi-generational villas where moody teens and doting grandparents are equally happy, a barefoot beach wedding on a private sandbank, or a surprise proposal that starts with a private seaplane and ends with a resounding “yes” — our team have planned them all. We’ve even swapped confetti for coral reefs and first dances for first dives.

Whatever your reason, whatever the season, we’ll make sure your celebration in the Maldives is as unforgettable as the setting itself.

Bigger. Brighter.

Bolder. Anantara Kihavah

Introducing the Maldives’ mega villas and residences, where barefoot gatherings meet luxury that scales with you.

The Maldives may be synonymous with intimate overwater villas and barefoot beach hideaways but hidden among them are some of the most extraordinary residences you’ll find anywhere in the world. Think multi-bedroom sanctuaries with private jetties, slides that swoop from rooftop to lagoon, chefs, butlers and space for barefoot gatherings that stretch long into the night.

These villas aren’t just for oligarchs and rockstars. When you’re travelling with a group, combining families

or planning a multi-generational escape, they suddenly make perfect sense. With multiple bedrooms, vast living spaces and an even more elevated service, they offer luxury that scales with you and often, better value than you’d expect when the cost is shared.

So, whether you dream of a castaway residence only reached by boat or a palatial suite with its own pool and cinema, consider this your run-down of the Maldives’ biggest, brights and boldest villas.

The of Scent Travel

There are moments on every journey that stay with you forever. The hush of dawn as the sky turns pink. Salt drying on your skin after a swim. Jasmine carried on the breeze, soft and fleeting. Travel is made of memories, and so often, it is a scent that brings them rushing back.

This is the philosophy behind Lola’s Apothecary, a Devon-born brand devoted to bottling the poetry of fragrance. Handcrafted in small batches on their family estate, each product blends fine aromatherapy oils with natural skincare, creating rituals that linger long after the journey ends.

At Turquoise, we’ve partnered with Lola’s Apothecary because we share the same belief: that travel is about the little details. The quiet moments. The indulgences that stay with you. Each product is thoughtfully created to elevate your experience, helping you feel more connected to the places you visit and the memories you bring home.

For this issue, we are celebrating Monsoon Paradise, Lola’s ode to tropical serenity. Bright tangerine and grapefruit sparkle over jasmine, ylang ylang and rose, capturing the softness of rain-washed blooms after a monsoon storm.

"Every journey has a scent, a memory you carry long after you return."

Lola’s Apothecary is offering 15% off their entire collection with code TURQUOISE15, exclusively for Turquoise readers. Available on orders over £30. Please see website for full T&C’s.

Because the places we love never really leave us. They linger on our skin, in our minds, and, sometimes, in a single perfect scent.

Meet the General Managers

Some roles can be summed up in a job description. This is not one of them. A brilliant general manager is the heartbeat of an island… part friend, part fixer, part quiet guardian of every guest’s happiness. We’ve called them in the middle of the night and they’ve answered without hesitation. They’ve rescued lost teddies, rerouted journeys, unpacked and repacked bags, and created birthday celebrations from thin air. Many have stepped off their own islands to visit ours, learning about our clients as if they were their own.

On a remote atoll, nothing is simple, yet they make it feel effortless. They pour themselves into every detail, their spirit infusing the island with warmth and joy. We are endlessly grateful to these people and the teams behind them. They are our partners, our friends and the reason a holiday becomes a memory you’ll carry for a lifetime. We are delighted to dedicate this space to their names and their stories, each so unique and special.

Let’s Talk Business (Class)

Fly the Turquoise Coral Route with two of the World’s Best Airlines

Upgrade the way you start your Maldives holiday with our preferred partners, British Airways and Qatar Airways, two names synonymous with style, service and comfort.

Business and premium cabins are no longer the preserve of suited bankers jetting to New York. Today, over 60% of business class passengers on the Maldives route are leisure travellers – solos, couples, friends and families swapping boardrooms for beach days. The atmosphere is still impeccably courteous but far more relaxed, with no silk ties or briefcases in sight.

With premium cabin demand at record levels, our “Turquoise Atoll Route” partners have invested heavily in making your journey every bit as memorable as the destination. Seat configurations are changing, and on some aircraft almost half the space is dedicated to premium travel.

Booking Tips from Turquoise

The golden rule? Book early. It’s the surest way to secure your preferred cabin and the best value fare. We can hold flights for you without obligation, giving you time to finalise your plans. Just remember, when it comes to choosing your exact seat number, British Airways charges from £140–£200 per person unless you have the right frequent flyer status.

Flying Direct with British Airways

Operating from London Heathrow’s Terminal 5, British Airways offers a choice of Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 aircraft, each featuring elegant First Class suites (8 seats), Business Class (42 or 76 suites) and Premium Economy (39 or 40 seats). The direct flight time is 10 hours.

Flying via Doha with Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways is a multi-award-winning carrier with one of the world’s newest fleets, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777. Its Qsuite Business Class is a Turquoise favourite, perfect for couples, honeymooners or even a family of four travelling together in a private suite.

Flights operate from both London Heathrow and Gatwick to Doha Hamad International Airport (yes, the one with the world’s largest teddy bear), before continuing to the Maldives. The in-direct flight time is approximately 14 hours.

Why Choose One When You Can Have Both?

Thanks to a joint service agreement, you can mix and match flights, perhaps flying out in British Airways Premium Economy and returning in Qatar Airways Qsuite for a memorable finale to your holiday. This flexibility gives you more routing options, better availability and excellent value.

And if you’d like to add a mini-break en route, Doha itself is a destination worth discovering — from its world-class hotels to its glittering skyline, it offers superb value compared to other Arabian cities.

At Turquoise, we love crafting journeys that are as special as your time in the Maldives. Whether you’re seeking the best-value premium fare, the ultimate honeymoon surprise or a family-friendly upgrade, we’ll find the perfect combination for you.
