We strive to provide a high quality, nurturing, stimulating and safe environment for our students. We partner with your family to compliment the development of your child's individuality and self-esteem, paying specific attention to individual learning characteristics.

Each classroom is arranged for children to choose their activities from a variety of learning centers. When children are encouraged to explore their environment it teaches them to problem solve and to make sense of the world around them. Through play, children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences.

CUTTING-EDGE CARE CLOSE TO HOME

INTRODUCING THE DEXTER® ROBOTIC SURGERY SYSTEM AT WESTFIELD AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTER

In today’s modern medicine, surgical robotics represents a significant advancement in minimally invasive care, bringing enhanced precision to patients seeking surgical treatment. We are thrilled to announce that advanced, minimally invasive surgical care with the DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System is now available right here at Westfield Ambulatory Surgery Center making us the first in the state of Indiana to offer patients this advanced technology

With this new offering, our medical teams combine modern technology with a patientcentered approach, ensuring you receive care in a truly comfortable, supportive environment. This addition to Westfield surgery center highlights exactly how toptier medical advancements are becoming accessible outside of traditional hospital settings.

HOW THE TECHNOLOGY WORKS

Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive technique where our surgeons operate through small incisions using a highdefinition camera and specialized instruments. The DEXTER system translates our surgeon’s hand movements in real time into precise, controlled movements inside the body. These specialized instruments provide our surgical team with enhanced dexterity and precision because they feature tips that bend and rotate in ways traditional surgical instruments cannot.

DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR OUR ASC ENVIRONMENT

While robotic surgery options are not new to the medical field, DEXTER represents a unique innovation developed specifically to optimize the ambulatory surgery center model. DEXTER is the first surgical robotic system designed specifically for surgery away from the hospital, in the ASC environment. Its design keeps the surgeon connected to the patient, ensuring our surgeons stay right by your side throughout the entire procedure.

Treatment in the ASC environment allows you to return home the same day. Our patients can recover in the comfort of their own home and get back to their lives and loved ones more quickly.

APPROVED PROCEDURES FOR TREATMENT WITH DEXTER

DEXTER is cleared by the FDA for patients above 22 years of age for the following procedures:

INGUINAL HERNIA REPAIR

Corrects hernias that develop in the groin area.

CHOLECYSTECTOMY

Surgery to remove the gallbladder, typically recommended for symptomatic gallstones or poor gallbladder function.

TOTAL BENIGN HYSTERECTOMY

Surgical removal of the uterus and cervix for non-cancerous conditions, including salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries).

SACROCOLPOPEXY

A procedure utilized to correct pelvic organ prolapse.

“The DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System is a new robot in the field of robotic surgery and its design, functionality and size is perfect for the free-standing ambulatory surgery center. Free standing ambulatory surgery centers are extremely efficient for the surgeons and their patients and the DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System offers a great amount of efficiency to contributing to the goal of the ambulatory surgery center, thus providing an excellent quality of care for the patient, and the surgeon as well as the staff of the ambulatory surgery center” says Nedra Moran, Healthcare 4 Tomorrow owner and the visionary behind the Westfield Ambulatory Surgical Center.

Ambulatory surgery centers are medical facilities designed to specifically perform minimally invasive surgical procedures that allow for patients to have same day surgical care with the ease of recovering in the comfort of their home.

Innovations like the DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System is paving the way of how

technology and surgical advancements are evolving, and now through these advancements surgical procedures are now being done in a way that is elevating the way patients receive care and how they recover.

The flexibility of the DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System will also help the Westfield Ambulatory Surgery Center optimize their scheduling efficiency, by having the surgeon remain on schedule for the surgical patients and for the patients they will be seeing in their offices to have reduce waiting time. This will also streamline a patient to be placed on a surgery schedule more quickly.

“Robotic surgery also offers a quicker recovery time which allows the patient to return to their normal routine in a shorter period of time” says Moran.

The Westfield Ambulatory Surgical Center is expected to begin operations this summer and will be utilizing the DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System for various gynecological procedures as well as general surgeries including hernia repairs and cholecystectomy.

STICK & HACK GRAND PARK

WESTFIELD’S NEWEST RESTAURANT AND ENTERTAINMENT DESTINATION

Three new restaurants, a cocktail bar and an entire campus of sportsbased entertainment — Westfield is welcoming a new sports and social club that promises to be the perfect midweek date-night destination and a family-friendly weekend experience all rolled into one.

The new concept, Stick & Hack Westfield, is occupying the former West Fork Distillery space off U.S. 32. It will be the brand’s third and flagship location, representing the most

fully realized iteration of the Stick & Hack experience to date.

The full concept will include two distinct restaurants, three full-service bars with a complete craft cocktail, beer and wine program, and an expansive entertainment lineup featuring sports and games. Golf and racing simulators will be housed inside, along with darts and ping-pong, with room for putt-putt, bocce ball and shuffleboard expanding the experience across the larger

campus. The venue will also feature a summer beer garden with outdoor games and activities for kids and families.

FAMILIES BY DAY, ADULTS BY NIGHT

Stick & Hack Westfield is located at the former West Fork Whiskey site across from Grand Park, where the restaurant and bar remain fully operational throughout the transition. As progress continues, the spaces are rolling out enhanced menu items,

entertainment offerings and building-wide amenities.

The food and beverage program will feature an elevated dining concept, Parkside Bar and Grill, designed for couples and families. While the menu will evolve, the team promises to keep some of the fan favorites from The Mash House. The space is open now and features draft beer for the first time, along with popular selections of whiskey, vodka and gin. Specialty cocktails and mocktails complement a brand-new menu.

Stick & Hack Westfield will also house Club 191, a high-end cocktail lounge with small plates that is expected to open later this year. The 21-and-over space will offer a sophisticated date-night option for Westfield couples.

The final dining component of the Stick & Hack campus will open this fall once the experiential elements are complete. For light bites or a quick meal between games, The Back Bar will serve fast-casual favorites such as tacos, pizza by the slice and loaded fries. This rounds out the food and

beverage program, which was designed to complement the interactive entertainment throughout the venue.

The entertainment and hospitality concept is also ideal for private events and group bookings, with an in-house events and catering program designed to make one-ofa-kind gatherings easy. Four unique event spaces will allow for private and semiprivate bookings of various sizes. Grand Hall, the primary event venue, will accommodate up to 350 guests. The Loft, Executive Board Room, Club 191 and The Golf Lounge will also be available for rental. Whether it’s a company retreat or a family reunion, Stick & Hack Westfield has the space and capacity to accommodate nearly any occasion.

The complete experience is expected to debut in late fall, when every corner of the renovated Stick & Hack campus will open to the public.

“This is an exciting time for the Grand Park District as we continue adding new amenities that enhance the experience for residents and visitors alike,” said Westfield

Mayor Scott Willis. “Stick & Hack will be a welcome addition that complements our momentum and helps further establish Grand Park as a true year-round destination.”

WESTFIELD’S GROWTH

Grand Park is one of the most-visited youth sports destinations in the country, welcoming millions of athletes, families, coaches and fans to Westfield each year from across the Midwest. Its influence has only continued to grow as the Indianapolis Colts brought training camp to Westfield, and both the Pacers Athletic Center and Indy Eleven training center have added professional-level facilities to the northern suburbs.

The more than 400-acre Grand Park campus features 26 baseball diamonds and 30 soccer fields. As any summer league parent knows, a rain delay can quickly turn that corner of town into a busy place.

Despite the traffic, the campus has never had a true anchor entertainment and hospitality destination worthy of the visitors who make the trip. Stick & Hack Westfield was built

to fill that role and more. Stick & Hack founder and partner Adam Grubb said he recognized early on the appeal of Westfield as a hospitality destination, which first attracted distilleries and wineries to the area.

“Grand Park and Westfield are already destinations in their own right. Our goal is simple — to make Stick & Hack Westfield just as powerful. Not an add-on to what’s already here, but a world-class experience that gives people one more reason to make the drive and gives central Indiana

something it can call its own,” said Grubb.

LOCALLY

OWNED. LOCALLY BUILT.

Stick & Hack Entertainment is a Fishersbased sports entertainment and hospitality company operating premium venues that combine sports simulators, traditional games and elevated food and beverage offerings.

Stick & Hack Westfield is a partnership between Adam Grubb, Matt Schlueter

and Matt Whitlow, owners of Parks Place Pub, and Ryan Geltz, partner at Stick & Hack Entertainment. Together, the group brings deep roots in Indianapolis and Hamilton County sports entertainment and hospitality, with a proven track record of building concepts the community embraces for the long term.

Stick & Hack Westfield is currently accepting inquiries for employment, private events, corporate bookings and league programming ahead of its summer opening.

75 YEARS STRONG

THE TOM AND SONI SHEEHAN BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF NOBLESVILLE SERVES YOUTH THROUGH GROWTH & OPPORTUNITY

The Tom and Soni Sheehan Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville, located at 1700 Conner St., is celebrating its 75th anniversary of providing area youth with opportunities and experiences that strengthen character and promote personal growth. Its key initiatives are after-school and summer enrichment programs. A yearly membership fee of $75 is required, but no child is ever turned away; financial aid is available if needed.

Although the Boys & Girls Club officially opened its doors in 1951, efforts to make it a reality started as early as 1948. According to Becky Terry, executive director, and a written history submitted by Irving Heath, one of the original group of gentlemen who saw a need for an organization to keep young boys out of trouble, it took a couple of years to come to fruition. The men banded together and began investigating national organizations they could align with. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America was the most responsive and outlined the steps that needed to be taken.

The first location was on Noblesville Square on the third floor of the old Knights of

Pythias Lodge, which at that time was defunct. From the get-go, organizations and businesses within the community gave the support needed to make the endeavor successful. Local involvement continues today as the organization carries on its original mission at its current location, 1700 Conner St.

“I grew up in the community. The reason why those community leaders started it is still a constant need today. We serve all of Hamilton County, but the after-school program is primarily Noblesville students,” says Abby Stutesman, director of club operations.

“The biggest change over the years is the holistic programming that goes beyond recreation. It includes mentorship, wellness, pride in self and academics, plus life and workforce readiness. We are very lucky to have community support and have a great relationship with Noblesville Schools. They partner with us to provide transportation after school and provide a fleet for Camp Crosser,” says Terry.

Club members who register for the transportation program are bused from their school to attend the after-school program. Students in grades K-12 participate in activities such as homework help, arts and crafts, gym activities, as well as drug- and alcohol-resistance programs. Field trips and special events are also scheduled.

Camp Crosser is a weekly themed summer day camp available to members for $125 a week. Campers are transported to a 20-acre property by the White River and back again for parent pickup. Activities include archery, crafts, river stomping, zip-lining, environmental education, campfire cooking and nature hiking.

The Community Center hosts the club’s athletic programs. Several basketball leagues and camps are held, ranging from youth to adult. Other leagues and camps include volleyball and K-5 cheerleading. Open gym sessions are available to members.

Three special events are planned to commemorate the 75th anniversary and ensure the club will continue its mission

in the years to come. The first will happen Aug. 4. The annual Birthday Bash Open House takes on special significance this year as it focuses on where the future is headed. In addition, it will be held in conjunction with the Noblesville Police Department’s National Night Out.

On Aug. 15, a ticketed event, Adult Recess, enables attendees to relive childhood whether they were a club member or not. It’s a night of nostalgia plus a look at the technology of today. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

The Diamond Giving Stewardship Party will be held Oct. 29 at Mustard Seed Gardens to recognize leadership donors who have invested in the future sustainability of the club through the 75th Anniversary Campaign. To join the Diamond Giving Society, a pledge of $7,500 is made, payable over three years.

“Help from the community is what has always kept our doors open. There is a volunteer application on the website. Give us a call or email. That lets us find the right area for a person’s passion and skills,” says Stutesman.

“We can pick out special moments every day. Joy and laughter fill the building when the kids come in after school. We come alongside families, give support and help them weather the storms of serious problems. Looking ahead, we want to grow our reach and expand programs while remaining a cornerstone in the community for generations,” says Terry.

The Tom and Soni Sheehan Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville is located at 1700 Conner St.

A RECIPE FOR GROWTH

AS THE PIPER APPROACHES ITS THIRD ANNIVERSARY, THE POPULAR NOBLESVILLE RESTAURANT IS EXPANDING ITS COMMUNITY-FOCUSED ATMOSPHERE AND SIGNATURE MENU TO A SECOND LOCATION IN ELWOOD

Writer / Ashley Dykton Photographer / Amanda Wilson

The Piper has become a staple in the Noblesville community as a family-friendly destination for great food, a full drink menu and a fun atmosphere. As it approaches its third anniversary at the end of July, owner Matt Vaught is preparing to open a second location in Elwood, Indiana.

“I’m a native of downtown Noblesville. I grew up in the Maple Street area and went to the Boys & Girls Club almost daily. I moved to the west side of Noblesville 20 years ago, so I’ve lived here all my life and I’m really familiar with the location where The Piper is now. We found there was a need for a quality local tavern that was familyfriendly, and we pulled the trigger three years ago. It’s been

very active and very successful from the beginning,” says The Piper owner Matt Vaught.

With 30 years in the hospitality industry, Vaught has used his experience to evolve The Piper into a popular local destination for all ages. By focusing on providing guests with excellent customer service, Vaught understands that if patrons receive great service, “all the other stuff comes a little easy.” He credits the success of The Piper to his employees and loyal customers.

“Service, quality and products dictate everything for us. We have hundreds of positive reviews, including a 4.7-star rating on Google. We really focus on fresh food, fast service and a friendly atmosphere,” says Vaught.

The Piper is a full-service bar and grill located on Noblesville’s west side, providing a fun atmosphere where guests are always sure to have a good time. Whether it’s playing Golden Tee, pull tabs, pool or darts, enjoying weekly live music or watching live sports, The Piper offers something for everyone. Because The Piper carries all the premium sports packages, guests never have to miss a game.

The Piper’s drink menu is extensive and features approximately 80 draft, canned and bottled beer selections, along with a wide variety of domestic and

international wines. The food menu is intentionally limited to ensure quality over quantity.

“We keep our menu small because we focus on the quality of all our items,” says Vaught.

Popular menu items include a build-your-own smash burger, a pork tenderloin, pretzel breadsticks and cavatappi pasta — a creamy mac and cheese topped with pulled pork or chicken. Of course, there are also The Piper’s signature wings, tossed in either a dry rub or one of the restaurant’s signature sauces, including Cherry Hot, Bourbon Apricot and Garlic Parmesan.

“I think they’re the best wings in the city and maybe the best wings in the area. Our signature wings are now our most popular item,” says Vaught, noting that the restaurant can serve up to 100 pounds of wings in a single day.

As a lifelong Noblesville resident and local business owner, Vaught believes it is important for The Piper to give back to the community.

“Our community involvement is a big part of our success. We just hosted The Piper Charity Golf Scramble benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville. We raised $6,000 during our first event, with more than 100 players participating at Fox Prairie Golf Course in May. The Elks Club has been a big part of my life for the last 20 years, so we do all we can to support Elks Lodge 576, and we donate to any charity that’s in need,” says Vaught.

Vaught saw the same opportunity to bring a locally owned, familyfriendly establishment rooted in the community to Elwood that he found in Noblesville. The small community just north of Hamilton County is the ideal location for expansion.

“We really intend to serve that population just like we did in Noblesville. It’s growing there, and we saw the same need that existed here on the west side,” says Vaught.

Opening later this summer, the new restaurant will feature a menu similar to the Noblesville location.

“The Elwood location is twice as large, so we can accommodate a few more menu items. We’re adding pizza because the previous location in Elwood was a pizzeria,” says Vaught.

The Piper in Noblesville is located at 5855 E. 211th St., Suite 32. Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

TENDERLOIN FAQS

What is a tenderloin sandwich?

When someone refers to a tenderloin anywhere in Indiana, they’re

probably talking about the pork cutlet served on a bun - but go anywhere else and clarification will be needed. Pork tenderloin is pounded thin with a mallet and then hand-breaded, fried and served in jaw-dropping proportion to a toasted bun.

What goes on a typical tenderloin?

Typical toppings include mayonnaise, ketchup and onions. Often, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and mustard are added. As for sides, most are served with chips, onion rings or French fries.

How do you eat a tenderloin?

Devouring the tenderloin is an art all its own. While there’s no wrong way to tackle a tenderloin, you can stack it, edge it, half it or just dig in. Make sure you have extra napkins on hand, because things might get messy.

Are tenderloins always as big as my face?

Don’t be alarmed if you can’t see the plate, and if it seems the bun is far too small for the size-of-your-face tenderloin. This is normal. For those with smaller appetites, check out Dooley O’Tooles mini option.

Noblesville BrewBQ Celebrates 10 Years

“We’re excited to formally announce the 10th annual Noblesville BrewBQ, to be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at Federal Hill Commons,” said Jeff Chinn, president of the Noblesville Rotary Club. “This is a fun charitable event that allows the community to come together to support a great cause while also sharing their love of barbecue, live music and beer.”

This is not only a fun event for the community to enjoy barbecue, brews and music, but proceeds also support local students attending Ivy Tech Hamilton County through scholarship funds. The Noblesville Rotary Club is passionate about providing opportunities in technical fields of study, especially with Noblesville’s focus on economic development.

“Ivy Tech Hamilton County cherishes our partnership with the Noblesville Rotary Club. The annual BrewBQ is a great event that brings the community together around great food and great times while also supporting Rotary’s efforts to provide scholarships to local students. We are thankful for this longstanding relationship with the Noblesville Rotary Club and look forward to many more years to come,” said Dr. Rachel Kartz, chancellor of Ivy Tech Hamilton County.

A portion of the proceeds also supports the

Noblesville High School Robotics Club, which has grown tremendously under the leadership of Andrew Wilkins, who has been nationally recognized with an Outstanding Teacher Award from Project Lead The Way (PLTW).

The BrewBQ features a barbecue grilling competition, giving attendees the opportunity to sample some of the best barbecue around. The contest will showcase an immense array of unique recipes from barbecue enthusiasts across Noblesville and Indiana. Live music throughout the evening will be provided by local bands Rhino Down and That’s What She Said.

Beer will be available from several local vendors. The Bier Brewery will return this year after winning multiple medals at prestigious brewing competitions, including the Indiana Brewers’ Cup, the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup.

Primeval Brewing of Noblesville is also returning. “We love being part of the community and are super excited to serve beer this year at the Rotary Club’s BrewBQ,” said Primeval owner Tim Palmer. Northbrook Brewing of Arcadia will also return. For those who enjoy wine, Spencer Farms Winery will once again offer a local

favorite alternative to beer. Nonalcoholic beverages will also be available.

Gold sponsors include Noblesville ACE Hardware, Meyer-Najem Construction, Thieneman Construction, Bell Techlogix and many others.

“Supporting educational opportunities is one of the most impactful investments we can make in our community,” said Ron Frankenfield, CEO of Bell Techlogix Inc. “Through our continued sponsorship of the Noblesville Rotary BrewBQ, we’re proud to help fund scholarships for Ivy Tech students and support the growth of the Noblesville High School Robotics Club, empowering young people to develop the skills and confidence needed for future success.”

PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE

FOR 70 YEARS, INDIANA MEMBERS CREDIT UNION HAS BUILT ITS LEGACY

“With 70 years of service, Indiana Members Credit Union’s legacy has been defined by strong relationships, community commitment and a memberfirst approach. At Indiana Members Credit Union’s core, we exist to better the lives of those we serve and the communities where we live and work,” says John Newett, president and CEO of Indiana Members Credit Union.

With humble beginnings as a small, memberowned financial cooperative founded in 1956 to serve employees of the Indiana University Medical Center, Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU) has grown into the largest credit union in central Indiana, serving more than 160,000 members through a network of 33 branches, including nine on the north side of Indianapolis.

“While the financial landscape continues to change, Indiana Members Credit Union’s commitment to simplicity, service and supporting our members through every stage of life remains constant. We strive to be a trusted resource. We want our members to know they are not navigating these challenges alone; we are here to support them every step of the way. Our members,

affordability, managing debt and planning for the future are common concerns we hear about every day. Our role is to provide clarity and practical support during these times. We work closely with members to identify solutions that fit their financial situation, whether that involves refinancing existing loans, exploring savings strategies or evaluating options for major financial decisions,” says Newett.

With its continued purpose of “People Helping People,” Indiana Members Credit Union serves its members by offering a full range of checking, savings, retirement and certificate accounts; lending products such as auto loans, mortgages and home equity lines of credit that are both competitive and responsible; investment services and wealth management; and commercial banking, lending and deposit and treasury services for business members. Indiana Members Credit Union also recently upgraded its digital banking system, providing members with a more effective experience by giving them the opportunity to manage their finances efficiently and securely.

“Areas where we are making the greatest impact are those that provide flexibility, accessibility and long-term value for our members. We want to be the one-stop financial shop for our members and for them to know they are being served by people with their best interests at heart,” says

Knowing there is a wide variety of financial institutions offering similar services, Indiana Members Credit Union believes what differentiates it from its competitors is its approach to delivering those services to members. With a philosophy of “Keeping It Simple,” IMCU strives to create a banking experience that is clear, accessible and supportive.

“Our focus is on understanding each member’s unique goals and providing straightforward, practical guidance to help them achieve financial stability and long-term success. We really focus on the long-term relationship, not a single transaction. We also emphasize financial education, ensuring our members have access to the tools and resources needed to make informed decisions with confidence,” says Newett.

BUILT ON TRUST, ROOTED IN COMMUNITY

Just off the square in downtown Noblesville, Martin & Martin Insurance welcomes clients and visitors with friendly faces and warm greetings. As a local fixture in the city for 37 years, the agency provides much more than insurance.

Founded by Jack and Chris Martin in a spare room of their Carmel home, the business has grown over the years through its commitment to clients and the community. Building on those roots, Jenna and Andy Romens purchased the agency in 2025 and continue to invest deeply in their clients and the life of Noblesville and surrounding communities.

Jenna worked as an agent for Martin & Martin for 10 years and has spent a total of 26 years in the insurance industry. She serves as principal agent and oversees the sales side of the business. Andy manages business operations such as billing, payroll and marketing when he is not working in his role as a project manager overseeing home remodels and other construction projects. Between running

a business and balancing family life, there is never a dull moment for the Romens.

Martin & Martin provides auto, home, commercial, life and specialty insurance coverage, offering protection from unforeseen events with a personal touch that is increasingly rare.

A COMFORTABLE, HOMETOWN APPROACH

As a local downtown agency, relationships and partnerships are a priority, creating an intentional, customer-centered experience. When people walk through the door, they are welcomed by a team committed to being a trusted resource — and often by a furry friend or two who add a little extra warmth to every visit.

Jenna says, “Insurance is never fun. In fact, it can be downright boring. That is why we try to make our service as pleasant as possible. Our door is always open. Our offices are all in an open area so we can see each

other and customers as they come in. It’s a unique office with murals on the wall and a comfortable atmosphere. We want people to feel at home here.”

That welcoming environment is backed by exceptional customer service. Whether it is a simple auto insurance policy or a complex aspect of business insurance, the agency’s team works efficiently and thoroughly to find the best solution possible. Agents partner with clients to identify the right coverage to protect homes, businesses and personal assets, updating policies as life changes and needs evolve. When it comes to life insurance, agents take the time necessary to guide clients through important decisions about the future.

COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

“We want people to know we are here through thick and thin — not just to protect their assets. We are interested in them as people and in what’s happening in the city. We’re proud to support Noblesville and surrounding communities in any way we can,” Jenna says.

That’s why Martin & Martin is involved in events such as the Front Porch Festival, National Night Out and the recent Peony Festival, which drew approximately 30,000 attendees. For the festival, the agency assembled survival kits for vendors as a way to thank them for their participation.

Martin & Martin also supports businesses and organizations that make a meaningful difference in the community. Among them is the Noblesville Schools Education Foundation, which provides grants, scholarships, strategic partnerships and volunteer support to local schools. The agency is equally committed to promoting mental

health awareness and supporting organizations that deliver essential services to individuals and families in need.

CUSTOMER VOICES

“I just realized we’ve been with M&M since 1988! They’ve insured many homes, cars and business risks for us over the years. I like their approach in that they present several options on a quote, review the pros and cons with us and help us make the right decision. We are very happy!”

“We reached out to Martin & Martin because of their amazing support of the community on social media. We also got

FOR LEASE

quotes from our current provider and another recommendation, but we went with Martin & Martin because of their fast and thorough response. They answered every question we had. Highly recommend them!”

In an increasingly digital world, Martin & Martin offers something refreshing: real relationships, trusted guidance and a genuine commitment to its customers and community.

Martin & Martin Insurance is located at 62 S. Ninth St. in Noblesville. To learn more, call 317-773-3743 or visit martinandmartin.biz.

PROTECTING YOUR LEGACY

Many adults delay estate planning for several reasons. They don’t like to think about dying, they assume they have plenty of years left to live, or they believe they don’t have enough assets to leave behind.

But what if they experience a sudden accident or serious illness that results in incapacitation, preventing them from choosing who will receive their assets or from making health care decisions about their own life?

“If they become incapacitated because of illness, age or any other occurrence that renders them incapable of managing their affairs, whether financial or health care, I would recommend that they have a durable power of attorney for their finances,” says Joanna Feltz, a board-certified Indiana trust and estate lawyer with Koehler Law LLC.

Feltz also advises signing a health care advance directive to designate a trusted person to make health care decisions on

their behalf when they are unable to do so.

“If you want to opt in to having an inhospital living will (also known as a living will), when a physician says that you have an incurable injury, disease or illness that will result in death within a short time and lifeprolonging procedures would only extend the dying process, by signing one you’re effectively saying, ‘Keep me comfortable, administer palliative care and let me die naturally,’” she adds.

Feltz also recommends a HIPAA waiver (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) that identifies those who may access the patient’s private medical information and speak with doctors on the patient’s behalf.

Unlike a living will, a will — or last will and testament — lists and describes your assets and directs how they are distributed after your death. Wills also name guardians for minor children. Wills are different from trusts, and Feltz explains the distinction.

“A trust is a contract that you execute while you’re living that can have many of the same directions that a will does, except it is a document utilized while you’re alive, upon your incapacity and upon your death, directing the trustee on how to handle your financial assets for your benefit and for whomever you designate in your trust,” she says.

If a person dies without a will or trust, the

state of Indiana will determine an intestate succession plan that dictates how assets and property are distributed.

“For example, if you are single and you pass away and you have children, the state says your beneficiaries are your children,” Feltz says. “One thing in Indiana that most people don’t realize is that if you pass away while married and you have something in your individual name that does not have a beneficiary, it does not automatically go 100% to your surviving spouse.

“In fact, if you pass away first and you have children together, your surviving spouse would generally receive 50% of the estate, while the remaining portion would go to your children.”

Education is key when making decisions about assets, naming a trustee, ensuring loved ones are cared for and planning for long-term care. There are three primary

options available for seniors when considering long-term care planning.

The first option is to be self-insured.

“They basically have discussed with their financial advisor their income, the assets they have invested and what it would look like if they had to move to assisted living or needed 24-hour care, whether in-home or at a nursing home, and whether they could afford to pay for that,” says Feltz. “Once they determine they can privately pay, they’re basically self-insured.”

A second option is purchasing long-term care insurance. Long-term care insurance is designed to help cover the costs of assisted living, nursing care or other long-term care services that may be needed as a senior ages.
