WELCOME TO TIPTON
Whether you are visiting, considering a move, or already proud to call Tipton home, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our community. Located in the heart of Indiana, Tipton offers the perfect balance of smalltown charm, strong community values, and exciting progress that continues to shape our future.
What truly makes Tipton special is the sense of community you will find here. Neighbors support one another, local businesses are the backbone of our economy, and residents take pride in creating a welcoming environment for families, entrepreneurs, and visitors alike.
Tipton is also a community that places a strong emphasis on recreation and quality of life. In recent years, we have made meaningful investments to enhance our parks and public spaces for residents of all ages. This includes the largest playground investment in more than three decades and the complete renovation of our basketball courts, ensuring safe and modern places for recreation and community connection.
Families enjoy spending time at our pool and splash pad during the summer months, while our Concerts in the Park series brings live music and community spirit to our parks throughout the season. Golfers from across the region also appreciate our 18-hole municipal golf course, which continues to impress visitors with outstanding course conditions and ongoing improvements to the player experience.
Looking ahead, 2026 marks an exciting milestone for our community as construction begins on the Tipton Baseball Project. This new multi-field park will create a high-
quality facility for youth baseball and family recreation while bringing new opportunities for tournaments, visitors, and community pride.
At the same time, we remain focused on continuing to improve accessibility and recreation opportunities throughout our park system. Investments in trails, amenities, and park infrastructure are helping ensure that residents of all abilities can fully enjoy the spaces that bring our community together.
We are also launching a new effort to better connect our recreational amenities with our local economy by partnering our parks, pool, splash pad, and golf course with downtown businesses and community partners. By linking recreation with local shopping, dining, and entertainment, we are creating new ways for residents and visitors to experience everything Tipton has to offer.
At the heart of our community is historic downtown Tipton, home to many locally owned shops, restaurants, and businesses that give our city its character and charm. One of the best ways to experience downtown is during First Fridays, a monthly celebration filled with shopping, dining, live music, car show, and community energy.
We remain committed to ensuring our downtown continues to thrive through continued investments in beautification, redevelopment, and public spaces that preserve its historic character while creating new opportunities for growth.
Tipton is a community on the move. From strengthening our parks and recreation opportunities to supporting local businesses and planning for the future, we are focused on building a city where families, businesses, and visitors can truly thrive.
I invite you to explore Tipton, meet our community, and discover why so many people are proud to call this place home.
Welcome to Tipton.
Kegan Schmicker Mayor, City of Tipton

FROM THE GROUND UP
CENTRAL INDIANA
Writer / Natalie Platt
JTH Industries LLC, based in Kokomo, takes pride in offering the highest-quality irrigation and excavation services for all commercial, residential, industrial and agricultural customers in central Indiana, including Howard, Tipton, Marion, Cass and Hamilton counties.
When working with their customers to provide affordable solutions on their projects, owners Jordan and Gina Hopkins’ focus is ensuring each job meets the highest standard of satisfaction. The couple takes the time to understand each job’s specific needs, and their family is involved in the day-to-day operations and decisions that have helped this small business grow.
The family-owned business started roughly a decade ago in northern Indiana, where Jordan Hopkins began mowing lawns and doing basic landscaping work. Over time — and one move later — the work expanded.
“Jordan started mowing and landscaping about 10 years ago,” Gina says. “About five years ago we moved into excavation. Then last year we added irrigation. Right now we’re working on getting our septic
The couple relocated to Kokomo, Jordan’s hometown, at the end of 2022. Hopkins grew up in the Chicago area and spent years living in Chicago and northwest Indiana. When they decided to move south, they also moved the business.
The move meant starting over in many ways. A service business depends on long-term contracts and established relationships, and many of those could not come with them.
“We had to rebuild quite a bit,” she says. “When we moved we lost a lot of contracts that were up north. So in a lot of ways it felt like starting fresh.”
That rebuilding has happened steadily over the past three years. Word of mouth has helped, along with the kind of steady communication customers often say is rare in the home service world.
“I do most of the scheduling and the administrative work,” she says. “So I’m the one who talks with customers when they call in. Jordan
certification so we can offer that service as well.”
is usually out in the field handling the projects.”
The arrangement gives the company a personal feel. Customers speak directly with one of the owners rather than a call center or answering service.
“We have a lot of wonderful customers,” she says. “Getting to talk with them and getting to know people in the community has been one of my favorite parts of the job.”
The business grew significantly last year after JTH Industries acquired the customer base of a longtime local irrigation company.
The transition added more than 100 irrigation clients to the company’s schedule. It also expanded the type of work JTH Industries handles during the warmer months, when irrigation installation and maintenance can become a large part of the workload.
Projects begin with a call or message from a homeowner. JTH Industries schedules a site visit and prepares a quote before any work begins. Quotes and estimates are always free, and someone from JTH will come on-site to look at the job and will follow up with a quote via email.
“Usually customers get it within 24 to 48 hours,” she says. “If it’s something like installing a brand-new irrigation system, that takes longer because we have to do CAD drawings and plan everything out.”
The Hopkins family has also tried to build connections beyond the job site. They have supported local organizations and youth activities and spent years fostering rescue dogs.
“I think it’s important for people to know we’re just a familyowned business,” she says. “My husband and I work together every day to make sure the work is done right and that customers hear back from us.”
For JTH Industries, the future will likely look a lot like the past few years: steady growth, expanded services and more homeowners discovering a company that still operates the old-fashioned way.
“We’re still growing,” she says. “But we’ve built a really good base here, and we’re excited about where it’s going.”
You can reach JTH Industries at 765-437-8417 or by email at jth.industries1@gmail.com.
