In a recent report, Fabric highlighted how microdramas are quickly becoming one of the most disruptive trends in global streaming. The trend saw an early adoption across APAC, especially in Singapore, and has since expanded to global markets. Much of its momentum can be traced back to platforms like TikTok, which normalized short-form storytelling and taught audiences to view fragmented content in quick bursts.

A BALANCE BETWEEN CONTINUITY AND REINVENTION
ELIF TATOĞLU,
DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY AND SALES DIRECTOR AT KANAL D
INTERNATIONAL
The success of finished contents like ‘Sins & Roses’, one of the biggest hits of the season in Turkey, is well supported by the growing trend of local adaptations of popular titles from Kanal D International’s catalog.
By Luis Cabrera
lcabrera@todotv.tv @luis_cabreram
The combination of enticing new dramas and well-known narratives have empowered Kanal D International’s catalogue in recent years, with the distributor being able to showcase fresh titles like ‘Sins & Roses’, alongside new versions of its biggest hits, like ‘Alba ’, the Spanish adaptation of one of the biggest international Turkish hits of the last decade, ‘Fatmagül ’.
“Having adaptations like ‘Alba’ on air allows us to present a familiar story in a new, locally resonant form”
“Adaptations reinforce our catalogue by showing that Turkish stories are not only strong as finished content, but also flexible and adaptable across cultures,” explained Elif Tatoğlu, Distribution Strategy and Sales Director at Kanal D International. “In markets like Kazakhstan, [which recently acquired ‘Alba ’,] they offer an effective way to reconnect with audiences who already have an emotional bond with Turkish drama, while refreshing the story through a new lens. This balance between continuity and reinvention adds long-term value to our catalogue.”
“At the same time, in markets where finished Turkish dramas face challenges due to episode length or scheduling constraints, adaptations allow our stories to reach audiences through a different, locally tailored perspective,” she added.
‘Fatmagül’ was a hit in Kazakhstan and now you have announced that ‘Alba’ will also be shown in the country. How do you value having these adaptations powering your catalogue and your narratives around different markets? The success of ‘Fatmagül ’ in Kazakhstan created a very strong emotional connection with local audiences, and that legacy still matters today. Having adaptations like ‘Alba ’ on air allows us to build on that trust while presenting a familiar story in a new, locally resonant form.
You have shared the international tendency towards local productions and how KDI has partnered with different companies to adapt its titles. Are scripted formats the key to opening some markets that haven’t yet bet on Turkish productions? Scripted formats can certainly play a key role in opening doors to markets
“Scripted formats can play a key role in opening doors to markets that have not traditionally invested in Turkish dramas”
that have not traditionally invested in Turkish dramas. While finished Turkish content continues to perform strongly worldwide, some broadcasters remain cautious due to cultural distance, episode length, or scheduling realities.
In these cases, formats offer a more flexible entry point. By adapting proven Turkish stories to local production structures and

Kanal D International
audience expectations, broadcasters benefit from strong narratives while keeping the content fully localized. For us, formats are not a replacement for finished content, but a strategic complement and in some territories, a very effective gateway.
‘Sins & Roses’ continues its strong run locally and internationally, expanding in CEE and Latam. What are the latest international developments for the title? ‘Sins & Roses ’ has now been licensed to more than 20 countries, confirming its strong international appeal. The series has delivered consistent performance across several regions, particularly in CEE, CIS and MENA.
Its international expansion is ongoing. At Content Americas, we closed a deal with Panama, marking an important step in Latin America. More recently, Kazakhstan and Romania have joined the list of broadcasters airing the series. These latest agreements reflect both the title’s momentum and its ability to connect with very diverse audiences. There will more sales to be announced soon including remakes hopefully.
How do you evaluate the programming slots allocated for Turkish dramas in 2026 across LATAM, CEE and other key markets? Broadcasters are approaching 2026 with a more cautious and selective strategy when it comes to Turkish dramas. While demand remains solid, especially for proven brands and strong titles, programming slots are becoming more competitive.
Many channels are prioritizing fewer but more carefully chosen launches, focusing
on clear genre positioning, recognizable talent and track record. At the same time, there is more flexibility in scheduling, with broadcasters leaving room to respond to performance rather than committing too early. Turkish drama remains an important pillar, but decisions are increasingly driven by performance and market realities.
In this environment, the Kanal D catalogue stands out. Historically, we are known for strong, female-oriented and family-driven dramas, rich in emotional storytelling and intrigue. These qualities continue to resonate strongly with audiences and fit naturally into the programming strategies of many broadcasters. This is also one of the key rea-
sons why ‘Sins & Roses’ has attracted a higher level of pre-sales among the new slate of titles currently available in the market.
Looking ahead, can you give us a tease of how many new titles you plan to add to your catalogue in the coming months? Given the current conditions in the Turkish production and television industry, it is still too early to define exact numbers. Economic uncertainty makes long-term planning more challenging.
That said, we do expect to add at least one or two new titles to our catalogue in the coming months, with a strong focus on quality, positioning and international potential.
KDI ANNOUNCES NEW DEALS IN THE CIS REGION
Kanal D International continues its global expansion with multiple series sales across the CIS region, bringing a diverse selection of Turkish storytelling to new audiences. Leading the new deals is the hit drama ‘Sins & Roses’, joined by ‘Twist of Fate’, ‘Price of Passion’, and ‘Azize’, four standout titles set to air across the region. The agreements highlight the growing appetite in the CIS market for Turkish series across different genres, from high-end drama to romantic comedy. Headlining the line-up, ‘Sins & Roses’ captivates with its gripping story of love, ambition, and hidden truths, continuing its successful international journey. Adding a lighter
tone to the package, ‘Twist of Fate’ delivers a charming romantic comedy filled with unexpected encounters and witty moments. ‘Price of Passion’ raises the stakes with an intense story driven by love, power, and betrayal, while ‘Azize’ completes the slate with a powerful tale of resilience and justice led by a strong female character. Together, these four titles showcase the versatility of Kanal D International’s catalogue, offering broadcasters a rich mix of genres with universal appeal and high production value. With these latest CIS deals, Kanal D International strengthens its presence in the region, continuing to connect Turkish stories with audiences around the world.

FOCUS ON CEE A RESILIENT AND STRATEGIC MARKET
By Rosa Fuentes rfuentes@todotv.tv
With a strongcommitment to local content and quality international finished content, a strategy that has empowered the reinvention of broadcast television and the growth of streaming platforms, the Central and Eastern Europe region has become one of the most dynamic TV markets in the world.
Pod Prikritie bTV (Bulgaria)
Broadcast television in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) continues to be the main buyer of mass entertainment content in the region, a driver of local production, and a strategic partner for regional and international production companies. Linear television is not only holding its own, but is reinventing itself as a central platform for original content.
The dominant genres are crime drama, family comedy, and internationally successful large formats. This confirms a preference for recognizable narratives with a long history and a strong cultural identity.
According to Eurodata TV Worldwide’s One Television Year in the World 2024–2025 report, the CEE continues to be one of the regions with the highest consumption of linear television in Europe and remains the main means of access to entertainment for
large segments of the adult population, with daily averages well above those of Western Europe.
According to Nielsen data, in markets such as Poland, Romania, and Hungary, free-toair television continues to account for the largest share of prime-time audiences, local content dominates the rankings of the most-watched programs, and traditional genres -drama, entertainment, and factualcontinue to outperform imported series.
The European Audiovisual Observatory (Council of Europe) shared that more than 60% of fiction programming broadcast by public and private broadcasters in CEE is nationally produced, reflecting a strong commitment to cultural identity.
On the other hand, advertising investment in TV and video in CEE is projected to continue growing steadily toward the end of the
decade. According to a study conducted by Dataxis in 2024, advertising investment in TV and video in the region is projected to grow by nearly 13% by 2029, with Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Romania leading the market volume.
This context makes CEE a strategic area for both traditional broadcasters and streaming platforms seeking to expand their presence with local productions.
TRENDS IN BROADCAST TV. Bulgarian dubbing studio Graffiti Studio published its 2025 reports, focusing on content localization, which revealed that Turkish television dramas have achieved immense popularity in the Balkans, thanks to their relatable narratives and high production values.
Its October report also highlights new forms of consumption, such as short-form content, and a new generation that is increasingly focused on mobile content: although demand for vertical content is growing, there is still “a place” for feature-length films and series, it notes.
“The Central and Eastern European region is no longer a secondary media market,” concluded the report. “It’s a dynamic, creative, and digital-savvy environment where global meets local - and where well-localized content can reach millions of engaged viewers across platforms”.
THE CONTENT THAT WORKS. According to the European Audiovisual Observatory, TVP (Telewizja Polska) is one of the broadcasters with the highest investment in national fiction in Eastern Europe. Its programming focuses on historical drama, family fiction, and large-format entertainment.
One of the most watched series in Poland for over a decade is the family drama ‘M jak
miłość’, and ‘Ojciec Mateusz’, a long-running procedural police series with high ratings. As well as ‘The Voice of Poland’, a talent show that has enjoyed great success.
TVN (Warner Bros. Discovery) focuses on premium entertainment and adapted international formats. Some of its sustained successes include ‘MasterChef Poland’, ‘Top Model Poland’ and ‘Diagnoza’. According to GECA, TVN is one of the leading buyers of international formats in Central Europe.
Meanwhile, Polsat maintains popular, family-oriented programming led by shows such as Twoja Twarz Brzmi Znajomo (Your Face Sounds Familiar) and successful daily soap operas such as Pierwsza miłość.
In the Czech Republic, Česká Televize is the public channel focusing on drama and historical miniseries with hit titles such as ‘Most!’, ‘Devadesátky’, and ‘Pustina ’. Nova Group, with a more commercial profile, focuses on procedural series and reality shows, with titles such as the medical drama ‘Ordinace v růžové zahradě’, the talent show ‘SuperStar’, and the daily series ‘Ulice ’.
In Hungary, there is a preference for local comedy and entertainment. RTL Hungary has hits such as the rural drama ‘A mi kis falunk’ and ‘X-Faktor Hungary’. TV2 Group, meanwhile, has achieved good ratings with programs such as ‘Sztárban sztár’ (Your Face Sounds Familiar) and ‘Survivor Hungary’.
In Romania, Pro TV is the absolute market leader and positions itself with local comedy such as ‘Las Fierbinți’, talent shows such as ‘Românii au talent’, and crime drama series such as ‘Clanul ’. For its part, Antena Group stands out with its factual and reality programming, with content such as the adventure reality show ‘Asia Express’ and the program ‘Acces Direct’.
Other countries in the region, such as Bulgaria, have bTV, a channel that broadcasts hit programs such as ‘Pod Prikritie’ (‘Undercover’) and ‘Bulgaria’s Got Talent’. There is also the case of United Group, with a presence in Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia and an integrated regional production that brings together programs such as ‘Senke nad Balkanom’ (‘Shadows over the Balkans’) and the drama ‘Kalkanski krugovi’.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL CONTENT. The focus on local storytelling in CEE is not unusual, but such an avid TV audience does present a great opportunity for IP owners to adapt their scripted content for new consumers.
When it comes to finished products, Turkish content, in particular, enjoys a great popularity in the region, rapidly growing beyond the first successes -with the memorable ‘Gümüş ’- into regular and standout presence in the prime-time slots.
In general, when it pertains to international content, behind the US and UK, there is a fierce fight for the audience preference among many other European productions. While Turkish dramas have build their own space in linear TV programming, the fiercest fights are happening on the streaming side, where platforms like Megogo or Voyo compete with giants like Netflix, Prime Video or SkyShowtime.
According to the VideoTrack study conducted by WPP Media in mid-2025, 37% of internet users in Romania subscribe to streaming services through pay-TV providers. This is more common among those aged 55 and over.
The percentage of active smart TV users ranges from 52% in the Czech Republic to 61% in Romania. Netflix and YouTube lead the way in smart TV app usage in the region. Netflix is the leading streaming provider in Central and Eastern Europe, according to the WPP Media report.
FAST, of course, is also growing, with audiences demanding more free ad-supported alternatives in a market crowded with paid models.
In a context of digital fragmentation, broadcasters in the region are consolidating their position as the main buyers of content that combines cultural proximity with recognizable international brands, making CEE one of the most stable and active markets for producers and distributors seeking volume, continuity, and mass audiences.
CEE continues to be one of the regions with the highest consumption of linear television in Europe, with daily averages well above those of Western Europe

TRISKELION OPENS THE DOOR TO NEW OPPORTUNITIES
The independent production company began the new year with a variety of original production projects in development; its new children’s platform, Cycle Kids; and the goal of expanding its presence in the international market.
By Carolina Mussio cmussio@todotv.tv @carolinamussio
Independent production company Triskelion Productions wrapped up a year of growth and new initiatives in original production, adding several projects to its lineup, encompassing different genres, locations, and themes.
“2025 was a great year,” summarized Ric Acevedo, executive producer at Triskelion Productions. “We began pre-production on new projects that we hope to film in 2026 and expanded our international reach.”
In this regard, the executive revealed that Triskelion is currently working on three docuseries, “one of which will probably take us to Japan at some point.”
“Plus two other docuseries that will be filmed in Los Angeles, and like ‘History of Fabulous’,
which we filmed during the pandemic, these docuseries focus on fun topics. I think audiences will really enjoy them,” he added.
Furthermore, the production company is preparing “an amazing animated project,” which they hope to finance this year.
Alongside its efforts in original production, Triskelion also sought to expand its catalog with third-party titles: “a key milestone will be our continued effort in acquisitions,” the executive explained.
BETTING ON YOUNG VIEWERS. For several months now, Triskelion Productions has been working on its next big bet for the international market: Cycle Kids, a new streaming platform dedicated to children’s content.
With an initial launch in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK, the plan for Cycle Kids is to expand to other key markets in the near future. “The launch of Cycle Kids is going very well,” the executive celebrated. “We are starting a marketing campaign that will in -

clude social media, and a push on Roku and in cinemas.”
The platform launches with more than 500 hours of content, with shows like ‘Gormiti ’, ‘Dogtanian ’, and many others. “The results are solid so far, and we have partnered with excellent distributors, so the content is topnotch,” he explained.
“I believe the children’s content industry remains a strong market. Given the current content landscape, parents are looking for a centralized and easy-to-use app. Cycle Kids is centralized, easy to use, and has something for every member of the family,” he explained.
Triskelion Productions is now travelling to the main international markets, where it aims to present the platform and its original projects, and forge new relationships with players in the international industry.
“In 2026, we want to finish our docuseries, move forward with Cycle Kids, and continue growing,” he concluded.

UNIVERSALLY RESONANT THEMES
With a catalogue powered by classical Turkish titles and historical dramas, including the recent addition of ‘Rumi’, Mistco aims to continue expanding its presence across the globe.
By Luis Cabrera
lcabrera@todotv.tv @luis_cabreram
With very good ratings and rave reviews for its production values, plus the performance of its leading cast, the historical drama ‘Rumi ’ earned its mantle of a “culturally important drama”. Now, Mistco aims to take this powerful miniseries around the world.
“‘Rumi ’ brings to life the extraordinary journey of Rumi — not only as a revered spiritual figure, but as a man shaped by loss, exile, friendship, and transformation,” explains Ayşegül Tüzün, Managing Director at Mistco.
Born in 1207, the man commonly known as Rumi was a Persian Islamic scholar, theologian and Sufi mystic whose teachings inspired the Mevlevi (Whirling Dervish) Sufi order and continue to influence readers worldwide.
The series portrays Rumi’s transformation from an Islamic scholar into a Sufi mystic, emphasizing his relationship with Shams of Tabriz, the political turmoil of the Seljuk period, and the spiritual philosophy that shaped his poetry and legacy.
“What makes this title particularly compelling for international audiences is its layered storytelling,” she adds. “Beyond its rich historical setting and high production value, the series explores universally resonant

themes: identity, love, tolerance, faith, and the search for meaning.”
The Kale Film’s production for tabii, TRT’ streaming platform, consists of three seasons of 10 episodes each.
For Mistco, it presents a new opportunity to grow on a genre -historical Turkish dramain which they have already found a lot of success with titles like ‘Resurrection: Ertugrul’.
“Historical Turkish dramas have built strong, loyal audiences across several key regions,” points out Tüzün. “Not only ‘Resurrection: Ertugrul’, but the genre itself performs particularly well in the MENA, the Balkans, and South Asia, especially Pakistan, where engagement is consistently high.”
“We also see growing interest in Latin America and selective demand from Western Europe, as digital platforms increasingly seek high-quality, culturally rich period dramas with universal themes,” adds the executive.
Other historical dramas in the catalogue of Mistco are ‘Alparslan: Great Seljuks’ and ‘The Last Emperor’.
Of course, the company also brings to the market traditional Turkish dramas like ‘Melek: A Mother’s Struggle’, ‘Hold My Hand’ and ‘Secrets of Angels’, alongside successful rom-com ‘Come What May’ and the episodic medical drama ‘Town Doctor’.
At the same time, Mistco has found success with its first co-production, ‘Bahar ’, which opens up the possibility of new projects from the company: “Following the strong international performance of the series ‘Bahar ’ in 2025, and with our expansion into many new regions, co-production has naturally become a consideration for us,” details Tüzün. “It’s difficult to give a definitive answer at this point, but we aim to create stories with a global theme while preserving local authenticity, combining creative collaboration with co-financing and distribution reach.”

KESHET’S ELEVATOR PITCH TO BE ADAPTED IN BRAZIL FOR RECORD TV
Keshet International and Bellino’s Unlimited are producing a Brazilian adaptation of ‘Elevator Pitch’ for Record TV’s Record News in Brazil. Co-developed by Keshet International (KI) and Bellino’s Unlimited from a format originally created by Keshet Broadcasting, ‘Elevator Pitch’ brings together a panel of high-profile investors -the Titans- who evaluate protégés’ real business ideas in a dynamic, high-stakes “elevator pitch” setting. From this core set-up, the 2026 iteration of ‘Elevator Pitch’ takes a bold leap forward by introducing a world’s first: an AI investor called Caio Maia, who analyzes pitches in real time, and interacts with the real-life Titans by offering insights on strengths, weaknesses and growth potential. Known locally as ‘Elevator Pitch Brasil’, Record News’ first 10×60’ season will spotlight entrepreneurs from Brazil’s favelas – a powerful and often overlooked market worth over R$200 billion annually (US$40 billion).
