Bonham Police Department launches Senior Lock Box Program

Press Release - The Bonham Police Department is launching a new program that will provide additional security to the City’s growing Senior Citizen population, free of charge.

The Senior Lock Box Program is designed to expedite access into senior residents’ homes during a 911 emergency and/or other welfare concerns. The Senior Lock Box Pro-

gram is open to resident homeowners age 65 and older. These residents can apply to have a coded lock box affixed to a structure near their front or back door. The lock box has

swer the door due to a medical emergency or other emergency. Bonham Police Chief, Andrew Hawkes stated, “If we have a 911 call to a residence and we cannot get in, the only option we have is to go through a window or break down a door. This is a costly expense to the resident. The new Senior Lock Box Program will enable us to protect our senior citizens with no damage to their homes. Bonham PD will install the lock box free of charge. The senior homeowner just provides us with a spare key. This is a small price to pay to ensure that the senior population is being taken care of and looked after and we are happy to serve them with this new program.” Starting Monday, July 1st Bonham homeowners aged 65+ will be eligible to apply to have a lock box installed by the Bonham Police Department. Please note that a resident younger than 65 years of age with a major medical issue that could render them incapacitated or unconscious may also be considered. Those who would like to participate in the program will need to fill out the Senior Lock Box Program Application. The application is available online https:// www.cityofbonham.org/486/ Senior-Lock-Box-Program and at the Bonham Police Department located at 301 E. 5th St. Bonham, TX 75418. Please contact Michelle Harger, Police Services Coordinator for the Bonham Police Department at 903583-2141 with any questions or comments regarding the program, eligibility and the application process.
