Tioga County “Back to School” Party Free Backpack Giveaway Event The Tioga County Fair is back and better than ever. The 165th Tioga County Fair in Owego will run from Tuesday, August 6, to Saturday August 10, at Marvin Park Fairgrounds, 50 W Main Street. Admission gates open at 11 am, $16 all inclusive admission An official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 12 Noon on Tuesday, August 6, celebrating the grand opening of this year’s festivities. The event will take place at the fairgrounds in Marvin Park where community members and visitors will experience a day filled with food, games, and entertainment. The ribbon cutting will mark the be-
ginning of the week-long celebration featuring carnival rides, agricultural exhibits, local vendors, and live performances. This year’s fair promises to be the best yet, with something for everyone. For more information about the fair schedule and ticketing, visit www.tiogacofair.com
Apalachin Lions Mobile Food Pantry - Aug. 28 Volunteers from M&T Bank hand out backpacks at last year’s Back to School Party Catholic Charities of Tompkins/ Tioga (CCTT) is busy getting ready for another annual Back to School Party for Tioga County. On Monday, August 12, the nonprofit will host its annual Back to School Party for everyone in the community to enjoy. The event will be held on the Tioga Central School campus at 27 Fifth Ave. in Tioga Center, from 10:00am to 12:00 Noon. Last year, CCTT provided 300 backpacks and thousands of school supplies to local families at this event. School-aged children from Pre-K to high school can pick out a free backpack and any needed school supplies. Andy & Sons Barbershop will be providing some free haircuts again this
year. There will be fun activities and games as well as information and resources from several local organizations that will be participating. This year’s Back to School Party is once again sponsored by a generous grant from M&T Bank. Students must be present to receive a backpack and supplies. This event is organized and hosted by Catholic Charities. Any student and family from Tioga County are welcome to attend this completely free event.
