Mike Wachholz President
As we move into the heart of the summer, it is gratifying to see the vibrancy of the Club throughout our various activities and programs. The number of children in our summer camps, swim team and clinics reflects the Club’s growing family demographic. The opening of the Golf Performance Center and Pickleball Facility coupled with the youth and adult clinics, socials and private events taking place there reflect the broad interests of our membership. Additionally, within our committee discussions so far this year, the enthusiasm for broader adult entertainment and a refined adult dining experience in the River Room post-renovation next year highlights the Club’s recognition that membership expectations also include a sophisticated experience as we move forward.
To ensure we hear all members’ voices, we wanted to highlight within the Membership section of this newsletter that on September 7, we will be launching a club-wide, comprehensive member experience survey. This survey covers all areas of the Club and asks members to rate all aspects of their service experience where they and their family spend time. The survey is being conducted by the same third-party company the Club has used in two
previous years. This will give the Club’s leadership strong comparable data on its member service programs over the course of the last ten years. In addition, there will be a section for write-in comments, which will also be vital for formulating action plans for our management team and Board, and to make sure that our strategic plan remains in line with members’ wants and needs. The Board strongly requests your participation as the data is only relevant if we can get enough participation to treat the responses as a broader consensus of the membership’s overall perspectives on our amenities.
As we developed the survey, our team formulated robust reporting of our membership demographics. I wanted to highlight some of them here to share the broad age ranges of our members, and the corresponding complexity the Board faces in developing our long-term master plans and campus development to meet the needs of our various Club users. I think you will all find the equal distribution of age and gender to be remarkable and further reinforces the Club’s core values of “balanced consideration of the needs of all.
place to gather with friends. As we have additional design details and renderings of the new spaces, we will be sure to circulate those to the membership early next year.
The most storied clubs in our nation invest time and energy preserving and communicating their history and traditions. This has not always been an area to which we have paid deliberate attention. The Board of Governors considers it vital to future generations to celebrate and chronicle our tightknit community that has flourished during our 103-year history. You will see in this newsletter our effort to reinvigorate this focus, which will be led by fellow member, Doug Milne. Doug has graciously volunteered his time to champion this effort. You may anticipate various historical excerpts and member stories in our future newsletters, calls to action for members to contribute experiences or artifacts, all underpinned by a digitization of the Club’s archives.
Please join the Timuquana Cares Employee Foundation Board of Directors in congratulating this semester’s scholarship awardees, Cael Thoresen and Kaiden Fraser. Cael has been a staple in our aquatics department helping Walt and James lead our lifeguarding staff and swim team coaching staff, and Kaiden is the grandson of long tenured and beloved dining room supervisor Anna Estrada. Both students are pursuing mechanical engineering degrees with Cael attending FSU and Kaiden attending UF. The generosity of the membership to fund the Foundation lightens the financial burden and allows these impressive young men to more easily pursue their future careers.

As this is my first formal letter to the membership, I wanted to express my deepest admiration for and appreciation of those volunteers before me and for those currently serving on the Board and our committees. Our member volunteers are incredibly passionate about the Club, and I look forward to working with them throughout the year to enhance our experience at our beloved ‘home away from home’ at TCC.
Lastly, while this survey will be one way of providing feedback, nothing displaces timely feedback in the moment, so please do not hesitate to reach out to any member of the senior staff or board of governors. Your input is vital to ensuring our club continues to exceed the expectations of our membership.
Respectfully,

If you are interested in contributing to our future scholarship funds, we encourage you to join us in our annual donation drive that begins August 1. Members will receive information about the Foundation with their monthly statements, and we encourage members to consider donating to the Foundation so that we can continue to offer and hopefully expand educational opportunities for our valued staff and their family.

The Timuquana Country Club Board of Governors has engaged an experienced country club consulting firm to conduct a customized Member Survey. This survey will provide you with the opportunity to rate what matters most to you when evaluating your membership value and to share how satisfied you are with Club amenities, Board and management leadership, programs, services and other aspects of your membership experience. You will also be able to offer comments and suggestions. Your candid opinions about the Club are very important to us as we work to improve your membership experience.
We assure you that all survey responses will remain anonymous. The Board and management team will receive only aggregate results from the consulting firm and will use the findings to better understand Member satisfaction and identify opportunities for improvement.
Please look for an email invitation on Monday, September 7, which will include a link to the online survey. You will need to enter your membership number to access the survey. If you do not complete the survey in one sitting, you can return later and finish it using your membership number. We encourage both household members to complete the survey. This process should take about ten minutes, depending on the amenities you use. Once the survey process is complete, we will publish a summary of the survey findings in our newsletter.
All current members who wish to transfer to a new category, such as House Social to Founder, National to Founder or House Social, or any other membership transfer, must do so by September 30, 2026, in order to qualify for our current initiation fee rates. Once initiation fee rates increase on October 1, current members who request a transfer are subject to the new initiation fees.
If you have any questions or would like to sponsor a new member, please feel free to contact me at knolte@timuquana.net.
When approached about taking on the project role of TCC resident historian a while back, a lot went through my mind. And, in the form of large, overflowing plastic boxes pulled from the attic of the clubhouse containing much of that history, a lot more went into the trunk of my car.
Over the course of the last few months, I’ve spent time scouring, studying and weeding through the contents of all those heavy crates. With no obvious rhyme, reason or connection to how any of it was packed in, I came across everything from handwritten minutes from old meetings to construction photos, interesting communications with other clubs, old menus, standout staff member information, party pictures, Club updates from past presidents and heaping amounts of golf material (pictures, players, past tournaments, scorecards, etc.).
Given a blank slate to provide you – the members – cool material to look back on from the various eras of Timuquana Country Club’s past as a way to enhance the depth and sentiment offered by this one-of-a-kind club, I suggested that, in addition to resurrecting the Club’s past, it might also be a good idea to mix in features on present-day members, their families and backgrounds. My interest in that was twofold. First, there’s a big age separation between many new members and long-standing ones. Because of that, there’s an understandable disconnect. That can change. Also, today’s membership will one day become, well, history. The hope is that what I offer can live on to give good insight into all who follow them as TCC members.
I also firmly believe that, over the decades, many of TCC’s staff members should be highlighted for the mark they made, or are making, with regard to the character of the
Club. In fact, current staff member Rusty Nicholas is now amid his 50th year of service to TCC. I’d venture to say that when he started, more than half of the Club’s current membership hadn’t even been born. Other standout staff members over the years have included Casey Mercer, “Train” and dear ol’ Wilbur. Of course, Maurice Edwards is as pleasantly unique as it gets. I look forward to sharing insight from and/or about those folks and their time on Timuquana Country Club’s hallowed grounds.
From Bob and David Duval on the golf side of things to other former staff members, like Doug Sasser at the pool and Hank Vino across the parking lot at the tennis courts, the Club has been home to some of the best characters to be found anywhere.
So, as you might imagine, my mind is as all over the place as were the contents of the plastic bins I brought home and unpacked to try and pave the way for this journey. I do hope you’ll join me each month for it.
Between such features as the Donald Ross golf course, pool, dining options and tennis/pickleball courts, there’s no doubt of Timuquana Country Club being a special place. And, it’s that history, those character lines and forward-thinking approaches which make it so. What we enjoy about the Club now and look forward to in the future is – and always will be –the result of where and through what Timuquana has come. Let’s have fun going back for a deeper dive into a lot of what makes us…well, us.
Sincerely,
Doug Milne

As we move through the prime of summer and into August, the tennis and pickleball courts continue to be filled with great energy, competitive spirit, and endless laughter. We love seeing full pickleball courts and kids enjoying the playground and open field space at the new facility. Summer always proves to be a great time to spend time on the courts. Whether it’s brushing up on your strokes, working on your cardio fitness, or preparing for the upcoming League season, our summer programs have something for everyone.
We also encourage you to mark your calendars and start planning for a weekend of great competition, camaraderie and unforgettable memories at this year’s Member-Guest Tournament on October 21-24, 2026.
As always, please don’t hesitate to let anyone on the Racquets Sports Staff know if we can help with anything.
Don’t Close Too Early at Net
A common doubles mistake is moving too close to the net too soon after your partner hits a good deep ball or lobs the opposing net player. When players rush forward immediately, they often make themselves an easy target for a lob and can take themselves out of the point.
Here’s what you can do instead:
• Slide toward the middle to look for floating balls and poaching opportunities
• Wait to fully close until you’ve read the opponent’s next shot
Good positioning is about timing, not just moving forward as quickly as possible.

We wrapped up an incredible Spring season with another competitive Iqua MemberGuest Tournament in early May. We want to give a big congratulations to Ryan Trzasko & Andrew Schellenberg (pictured on the next page) who came out victorious with an amazing birdie on the final hole of the shootout over Alex Graham and Graham Riley.
With the opening of the Golf Performance Center, I hope you have had an opportunity to enjoy the new facility during its first month of operation. The response from the membership has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see members utilizing the facility for practice, instruction, club fittings, and social gatherings. As a reminder, the GPC is also available for private events and group outings. Whether you are interested in hosting a business gathering, family event, or a fun evening with fellow members, the space offers a unique and interactive experience. If I can assist you in planning a private event in the Golf Performance Center, please do not hesitate to contact me.
As always, we look forward to kicking off July with an exciting weekend at the Club as we celebrate Independence Day. We will host our annual July 4th Tournament that begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Following the tournament, tee times will be available beginning at 1:30 p.m. Please be mindful of
our guest policy on this historically busy weekend.
With the heat of the summer upon us we are at greater risk of our usual afternoon thunderstorms and an active lightning alarm system. For the safety of all golfers, anytime lightning is detected within six miles of the Club, the alarm will sound with one long, single blast. At that time, all golfers are required to immediately quit playing and practicing and seek shelter. At 20-minutes from the last strike within six miles of the Club, the all-clear siren will sound with three blasts. At that time, it will be safe to resume playing and practicing.
Please note that the golf course will be closed for our annual course maintenance on August 3-6. Tee times will be available beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 7. The course is closed every year during this week to allow Alan Brown and his team to aerify and do any course projects before we approach a busy fall season.
Friday, July 10 | Shotgun start at 5:30 p.m.
Cost: $70 per couple
All holes will be setup as par threes and participants will play Captain’s Choice. To register, call the Golf Shop at 904.389.0477

Summer days and evenings at TCC are some of the most special memories you can give your family. From splashing around in the pool to playing and relaxing on the back lawn, these warm summer days at the Club can’t be beat. With several weeks of summer still ahead of us, we would like to share a few friendly reminders about some of the pool’s policies.
1. Guest Policy – All members are allowed four guests at the pool at any given time. Special requests for additional guests can be made by contacting Walt Bartman at wbartman@timuquana.net. Guest fees are $15 per person, except on holidays. Holiday guest fees are $30 a person with a limit of four guests.
2. Bathing Suit Attire – TCC’s pool is a family-friendly environment. Members and guests must wear appropriate swimwear that is modest and not too revealing. Please check the pool dress code on our website for details on appropriate attire. Also, upon exiting the pool, we require all members to be covered or clothed as you venture to other destinations of the Club.
3. Vaping – Vaping or smoking is not permitted on the pool deck. Permissible areas are by the Adirondack chairs or by the river away from others. Smoking or vaping is also prohibited at The Grove Bar and dining areas.
4. Food/drink – Please refrain from bringing outside alcohol, food, or glass containers into the aquatic’s facility.

Beginning the second week of August, as the kids head back to school, we will transition to reduced guarding hours at the pool. As of August 10, we will have lifeguards at the pool only on Fridays from 2-8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.–8:30 p.m. During the rest of the week, Tuesday through Thursday, we will operate under our Swim at Your Own Risk policies and Mondays will remain closed for maintenance and swim programs. This schedule will continue through Labor Day weekend.
Below are important reminders for our Swim at Your Own Risk policy:
• Children under the age of 12 need to always be accompanied by an adult
• Children under the age of 9 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian while in the pool
During unguarded hours, we kindly ask that all members and guests do their best to keep the deck clean of food and beverage from The Grove and dispose of towels in the appropriate towel bins. Mondays we are only open for lap swimming or already scheduled programming.
Cost: $50 per 45-minute session
We’re excited to bring you an in-pool swim training system that provides an incredible workout that is low impact and full of cardio movements, like swimming laps. Using the hydro equipment, Coach Walt will run you through a series of reps focusing on key techniques. Hydro Revolution uses aquatic workouts that are found in water polo, swimming, cardio and strength building; all in a 45-minute session. Training lessons can help improve bad swimming habits, while building aquatic strength. Contact Coach Walt for a private session on your schedule. Training will take place at the aquatics center. Ages 14 & up. To register, contact Walt Bartman at wbartman@timuquana.net.
