Unbelievably, we are nearly mid-way through 2026. With summer upon us, we are excited to see the Club in full swing with families enjoying the pool and Grove, youth camps and our Memorial Day, Fourth of July and other social events spread throughout the summer. You’ll see in this edition of the newsletter some incredibly exciting programs highlighted by the opening of the Golf Performance Center and Pickleball Facility on May 21, new staff additions in our culinary and security departments and an initiative to improve the Club’s archives and historical records.
Following nearly two years of planning and a year of construction, we are thrilled to welcome members to our new facilities less than one month from now. Detailed information about the programs and services is contained within the golf and tennis sections of the newsletter. I want to highlight the launch of “The Rounds,” the Club’s mobile food trailer and accompanied private event menus. The Rounds brand is inspired by the southern tradition of making one’s “rounds” bringing food, drink and hospitality to where people naturally gather. This new addition is the perfect and most efficient amenity for food service, complementing how we envision the new sports areas to be utilized for small group events with 4-48 attendees. In addition, we are also excited to introduce the Tap Wall at our Pickleball Facility. This self-pouring system will be connected to the TCC App and is directly integrated
with member profiles within the Club’s database to verify age. We anticipate this will be a new social hub for our members to gather with friends and family throughout the year.
We have periodically mentioned the structural work required on the back patio. This project will commence after Memorial Day 2027 and take four and a half months to complete. The scope of the project will be to structurally rebuild the entire River Terrace, improve back lawn drainage, update landscaping and complete additional drainage behind the bulkhead. The Terrace will also be expanded roughly six feet towards the river, allowing for more social and private event space. Since the Ballrooms and River Room will be closed during this renovation, this is the most opportune time to complete an improvement project to the River Room and accompanying outdoor dining space. The Club has been working with Harris Interiors and members of the House Committee and River Room Design Ad-hoc Committee on these plans. Our goal is to create a more elegant, adult-focused cocktail space while maintaining the flexibility necessary for private functions, critical to the Club’s financial performance and member celebrations. The space can then be used as an elevated dining experience, both inside and out including prix fixe dinners, wine and cocktail events, and adultdriven dining. With an emphasis on enhancing our evening musical entertainment, new amenities such as the expanded patio, soft seating and fire pits will be an ideal
place to gather with friends. As we have additional design details and renderings of the new spaces, we will be sure to circulate those to the membership early next year.
The most storied clubs in our nation invest time and energy preserving and communicating their history and traditions. This has not always been an area to which we have paid deliberate attention. The Board of Governors considers it vital to future generations to celebrate and chronicle our tightknit community that has flourished during our 103-year history. You will see in this newsletter our effort to reinvigorate this focus, which will be led by fellow member, Doug Milne. Doug has graciously volunteered his time to champion this effort. You may anticipate various historical excerpts and member stories in our future newsletters, calls to action for members to contribute experiences or artifacts, all underpinned by a digitization of the Club’s archives.
As this is my first formal letter to the membership, I wanted to express my deepest admiration for and appreciation of those volunteers before me and for those currently serving on the Board and our committees. Our member volunteers are incredibly passionate about the Club, and I look forward to working with them throughout the year to enhance our experience at our beloved ‘home away from home’ at TCC.

Mike Wachholz President

Beginning June 1, members whose accounts are delinquent by 60 days or more may be subject to the posting of their name and account balance until the delinquent balance has been paid in full. This policy will focus on those members who are habitually late in settling their account balances and who are not making a reasonable attempt to work with Club staff to bring their balances up to date. Members whose names have been posted may be subject to additional requirements, including enrollment in automatic monthly bill payment via ACH.
Should you have any questions please reach out to Greg Sheara, General Manager or any member of the Board of Governors.
Greetings, TCC family! Not long ago, I was approached by my long-time dear friend and newly minted Club president, Mike Wachholz, to discuss an exciting idea to bring to life Timuquana Country Club’s long-established past. To say I was eager and elated to hear more, is an understatement.
With such a deep and rich history to our beloved Club, it was Mike’s idea to use storytelling measures as a way to not only generate interest in Timuquana’s unique
and storied past, but feature it in a way that provides interest, insight and perspective into the Club’s foundation that has, understandably, increasingly become lost on many members over time.
Given the Milne family’s history at the Club, coupled with his enthusiasm for my storytelling ability, Mike asked if I would have an interest in taking the lead on an on-going project researching and, ultimately, illuminating the Club’s past….and present.
Before he could even finish detailing his vision, I interrupted him with a boisterous question.
“When can I start?”
So let me begin this project starting with myself. As I’m sure it is for each and every one of you, Timuquana Country Club has been an incredibly special and prominent part of my life, as well as those of many generations of Milnes.
For the entire duration of my life, Timuquana has been a staple, a warm and welcoming place which, regardless of day, year or event in my life, has always been there for me.
As a little boy in 1971, it was in the Timuquana pool where I learned to swim. As a teenager in the 1980s, Timuquana was a place for me to come together with friends and enjoy life.
Circa 1980, alongside my late grandfather, Doug Milne, Sr., my first-ever round of golf was played on
Timuquana’s Donald Ross design. Like me, he was a long time, proud member. In the 1990s, I was honored to have been selected to document Bobby Weed’s redesign of Dye’s original layout via video. While trying to find a post-college job in 1990, after joining as a member, I spent a lot of time at the Club with my 3-digit member number to try and remain stress-free and optimistic. It worked.
It was through Timuquana that the Milne and Schwalbe families became friends. I would go on to marry Dick and Diane Schwalbe’s daughter, Isabelle, in July 1993. Our wedding reception was held at Timuquana and stands today among the largest receptions the Club has ever hosted.
Our three kids were taught to swim in the Timuquana pool in the early 2000s, just like Isabelle and I decades earlier.
When the Timuquana fitness center opened, it became a second home to me. It was there where I transformed not only my physical condition, but mental state, as well. To this day, it remains a safe and encouraging haven for those same reasons.
As a former Media Official for the PGA TOUR, I was front and center for each of Jim Furyk’s Champions Tour events at the Club. While I was proud to showcase myself as a valuable member of the TOUR to those at Timuquana, I was more excited to showcase myself as a member of the Club to those with the TOUR.
Timuquana Country Club has always been there for me and my family. Through both good and challenging times, Timuquana has been a rock for me. It has been the source of celebration, as well as a comforting place for me to escape the larger world’s day-to-day rat race.
In addition to me, Timuquana has been embraced with equal warmth by Isabelle, who works full time at Riverside Presbyterian Day School. Because the nature of my job with the PGA TOUR kept me out of town at tournaments upwards of 30 weeks each year, the tennis courts came to serve as a second home and tremendous source of fun for her. To this day, they still do.

Because of its history and prestige, Timuquana has also certainly been a Club I’m proud to say I’m a member of. People all over the country and world know of Timuquana and I’ve never heard a negative word about the place from anyone.
Interestingly, I credit the TCC golf course for the connection and ensuing friendship with the singer of my all-time favorite band, Dropkick Murphys. The singer, Ken Casey, is a golf fanatic from Boston who suddenly became my best friend upon learning of my TCC membership. He is among several famous people I’ve been able to get onto the course.
For all I am blessed and fortunate to have in my life to help keep me moving in a positive, forward direction, Timuquana Country Club remains at the center of the Milne family’s heart.

The kid who learned to swim in the TCC pool in the early 1970s is now a 58-year-old man, incredibly grateful to have an opportunity to shed light on the deep, rich and wide history of the Club. Part of achieving that, is to also help remain current with the membership from a historical perspective by way of offering written pieces on current members and their families. I believe those will be well-received now and appreciated later.
In many ways, this opportunity serves as a homecoming of sorts to a place that’s largely credited for who and what I am today. The thought of moving forward with Timuquana Country Club in both a personal and professional way is one I cannot be more excited about and grateful for.
In order for these stories of past and present to include the best and most-comprehensive glimpse into all Timuquana Country Club is, I wholeheartedly believe it needs to be a team effort. That said, if you have stories, photos and/or insight to share about the Club, its staff and/or members, by all means, speak up! I can be dougmilnemedia@yahoo.com.
With this being a new initiative, in order for it to be done right, please join me as I put into motion ways for Timuquana Country Club to become an even bigger and better part of all of our lives.
Doug Milne, Jr.

We have a great deal to look forward to as we head into the late spring and early summer months. We have a few important updates to share as we continue to invest in the long-term quality of our golf program.
We are beyond excited for the official opening of the Golf Performance Center on Thursday, May 21. As you all are aware at this point, this new facility represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing a first-class golf experience for the entire membership.
The GPC has been thoughtfully designed to serve players of all skill levels. Whether you are looking to improve your game through instruction, participate in clinics, enjoy club fittings, or simply spend time practicing in a comfortable and innovative setting, the Golf Performance Center will quickly become a central hub of activity at the Club.
The GPC will be open Tuesday through Sunday, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and closed on Mondays. Golfing members will be able to reserve the middle bay at no cost during business hours, and House Social members can utilize the GPC for a $40 fee. Reservations are available for 45-minute intervals and can be made through the ForeTees app. In addition to instruction and practice, the space has been designed to foster camaraderie and connection among members. Members can utilize
the GPC to host a private event Tuesdays – Fridays beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information or to check availability, please contact Director of Golf, Blanton Tessin, at btessin@timuquana.net
Please note, all guests must be accompanied by a member and in proper golf attire when using the GPC. The guest fee for using the GPC is $40. Also, all juniors under the age of 12 must be accompanied by their parent at all times when using the GPC. Any junior 12 years of age and older may use the GPC upon completing the Junior Certification Program. Our GPC Manager, Austin Hill, will approve all juniors to use the facility.
Additional details regarding reservations, programming, dress code and usage guidelines are available in the Golf Performance Center brochure. Review the brochure on the TCC app or website or pick one up at the Golf Performance Center when it opens.

In keeping with our commitment to maintaining the golf course at the highest standard, the course will close for our annual maintenance program beginning Tuesday, May 26 through June 8, 2026.
The course will be closed for two weeks as we complete a series of important agronomic practices that are essential to the long-term health and playability of the golf course. While this temporary closure may present a short-term inconvenience, it is a necessary investment that ensures the conditions our membership expects and deserves throughout the year.
Please note, the practice facility and GPC will be closed on Tuesday, May 26, following Memorial Day. After May 26, the practice facility will be open from 8 a.m. to dusk and the GPC will be open for normal operations from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
We appreciate your understanding and support as our agronomy team completes this important work.
April 30-May 2

Alan Brown Director of Golf Course & Grounds

This past winter brought some of the colder conditions we’ve experienced in recent years. Despite those challenges, playing conditions have remained outstanding. Our putting surfaces, in particular, have been among the best we’ve seen in my 11 years at Timuquana—continuously healthy, firm, and true over the past eight months. We consistently had green speeds between 12 and 13 with those speeds remaining consistent into the Spring months.
Cooler temperatures did present challenges in the rough, as extended dormancy led to thinning in certain areas. To address this, we have implemented a more aggressive fertility program over the past five months to promote recovery and improve density. Cart traffic during dormancy can accelerate wear, but this is something we have successfully managed in the past, and we fully expect these areas to rebound as soil temperatures continue to rise. As part of this effort, you will begin to see increased solid-tine aeration in rough and high-traffic areas. We will continue to monitor conditions closely as we approach our upcoming course closure where more intensive practices, such as aeration, verticutting, and topdressing, will further enhance all playing surfaces.
One of the more impactful additions to our program has been the Nano Oxygen System. This technology allows us to better condition the reclaimed water we receive from the Navy base, improving overall water quality and increasing the efficiency of our agronomic inputs. As we continue to evaluate performance data, our goal is to refine our approach, reduce unnecessary inputs, and maintain the high standard of conditioning our membership expects, while remaining responsible environmental stewards.
During the summer of 2025, we also completed a comprehensive bunker renovation project. Based on GCSAA benchmarks, bunker systems typically require renovation every 7–8 years, and we are committed to staying proactive on that cycle moving forward. The focus of this project was to improve drainage, enhance playability, and ensure longterm sustainability.
We selected Florida Premier Angle White sand for its excellent drainage characteristics and its ability to provide a firm, consistent playing surface. Sand depths were carefully maintained at 3–4 inches to balance firmness with adequate moisture retention. Celebration bermudagrass, consistent with our fairways, was installed on bunker faces, allowing for tighter mowing lines and a cleaner, more refined aesthetic. As these areas continue to mature, we will fine-tune mowing heights over a full growing season, while the sand profile will naturally settle with weather and play to further enhance consistency and firmness.
Throughout the winter, we also completed several targeted improvement projects across the golf course. Drainage remains a priority, and we expanded our annual program while cleaning and restoring key ditches to improve water movement. The area between holes #1 and #18 was selectively cleared to enhance the course’s parkland character, improving both aesthetics and playability. Adjacent ditch lines were reshaped and stabilized to create a cleaner presentation while protecting against long-term erosion.
A major contributor to our continued success is our people. We are fortunate to have a dedicated and experienced team, with many long-tenured staff members who take great pride in the golf course. As assistants advance in their careers, we have been able to attract talented individuals who are eager to be part of Timuquana. Our AIT/Intern program also continues to grow and remains an important part of our long-term vision, helping to develop the next generation of turf professionals while fostering a strong culture of learning within our operation.
