Have you thought about the get-to and get-away means of transportation? Whether your priority is getting to the church on time or in style, how you plan to get there should be debated and booked at least three months before the big day. Traditionally, the main car carries the bride and her father to the church, with a second car for the bride’s mother and the bridesmaids and a third to take the groom and his best man.

If your Mini-Cooper isn’t quite the fairytale carriage you’d visualized for that day, you may want to contact a limousine service company to make arrangements for your wedding day and think about the theme of your wedding and how your choice of transportation could add to it. In a stretch limousine you can ride to the wedding or to the reception with the whole wedding party. If you want the moment to yourselves as you start your life with just you two, an executive sedan may be your choice. Maybe you would choose to rent a horse drawn wedding carriage. Imagine the bride arriving at her wedding in a beautiful horse drawn carriage. There is nothing more romantic. You’ll ride away as husband and wife and enjoy a few minutes alone before you celebrate with

friends and family. A romantic horse drawn carriage ride along the stunning coastline is a wonderful way to travel to your reception or to start your honeymoon. If you enjoy the ride and the attention of onlookers as you pass by, why not rent a classic car like a luxurious Rolls Royce or even an open top sports car like a Maserati or Ferrari? Making a statement on your wedding day is allowed, so live out your dreams. Whatever your transport of choice, make allowances if the bride is wearing full wedding regalia, i.e. acres of fabric, or protecting her makeup and hair, because you don’t want to look like you just been in a windstorm or a phone booth… unless you want to. Make sure your driver is reliable and trustworthy. You don’t want to rush or arrive late to the wedding, or to the reception or to the airport, as that would only add to the day’s stress. Make sure the driver knows the locations of where to pickup the wedding party, the

church and reception and the time they’re expected to be there, how many and the names of the passengers they’re transporting. Get a good estimate of the time it will take to get from point A to B and between venues. Take into account the traffic conditions that are expected on your wedding day. Don’t forget to decorate your car or to have the car rental company do it. Be creative, make it fun and enjoy, it’s your big day!

Be The Natural Beauty You Are

On Your Wedding Day H

aving your makeup look its absolute best on your wedding day may be at the top of your priority list. Whether you’re planning on getting married at the beach or in a ballroom you will want to achieve the natural look to show off your true beauty. Getting the natural look on your wedding day starts months before the big day. First off, acclimating to a new beauty routine isn’t easy but it will pay off. A daily face cleaning is essential to keep your skin fresh and sparkling. It’s important to balance your cleansing because cleansing too often can strip the essential natural oils present in your skin. Buy a cleanser that’s suitable for your skin type. When washing at night be sure to apply a deep moisturizer afterwards. Some simple steps you can take to getting a natural look on your wedding day are staying

hydrated everyday; drinking a lot of water will help flush out any impurities and toxins from your skin.

Regular exercise and exposure to the outdoors will improve your skin tone to look naturally tinted opposed to getting a spray tan where you run the risk of becoming a pigment you don’t want. Making manicures and pedicures a part of your regular monthly regimen will work towards having your hands and feet in tip top shape before your wedding day. Some steps to take the week before your wedding include: getting your eyebrows shaped, begin a daily exfoliation routine, condition your hair with a masque, avoid excessive alcohol and salt consumption. It’s important to shape your eyebrows the week before so that there’s always room for fixing any imperfections. Be sure not to pluck on the day of your wedding—avoiding any potential irritation is the safest way for the day. Begin a gentle daily exfoliation with an oil free moisturizer. Skin exfoliation will remove dead skin particles from your face leaving your skin glowing and naturally fresh. An at-home conditioning hair masque can make your hair look and feel a lot healthier and natural by the time your wedding day rolls around. Avoiding alcohol at least the week before your wedding will help due to its sulfur bearing gases as well as other qualities that put your digestive system in slow motion. Also reducing the consumption of high sodium products can be very beneficial to your natural beauty look on your wedding day. Sodium holds 50 times its weight in water, therefore the water your consuming isn’t being allowed to flush out unwanted toxins. With beautiful and glowing skin, on your wedding day you should not have to wear heavy make up. A light foundation and blush as well as light eye shadow and mascara will achieve your natural and beautiful look for your special day!

CHOOSING YOUR

Wedding Photographer

A wedding is one of the most memorable events in a couple’s lives. The bride has probably dreamed of this day her entire life, and has probably started planning and preparing for their wedding as soon as the relationship became serious. With long hours of preparation, stress, and running around, the expected outcome of the wedding is grand. It’s the day she will remember forever. This is why it’s so important to record it and find the best wedding photographer to help capture the memories and show off this beautiful celebration. Here are several things you need to consider when choosing a wedding photographer. There are many wedding photographers, and knowing the right questions to ask is important in choosing the right one. Below are five questions you shouldn’t skip out on:

How many years experience? This is a very important question because the photographer’s experience will reflect in the final pictures. You want a photographer with plenty of experience. This means actual experience as a wedding photographer, and the size of the weddings they have shot for.

10

What is the style of the nique? You want someone to match the style that you want out of your wedding pictures. There are many different styles, such as classic style, modern, relaxed, creative, artistic and so much more. Ask the photographer to explain and describe their photography style to you.

Will they be the person taking all the pictures? Meet the actual photographer, not their secretary. You want to make sure that you get a good feeling from them, and that you enjoy their presence, as they will be around you your entire wedding. Also, ask to meet their assistants as well, as they will be right there with the photographer as well.

What kind of equipment will the photographer be using and bringing with him? You want a professionally equipped photographer. Ask what kind of extra equipment he will

Coastal Wedding | Summer-Fall 2014

be bringing aside from their camera, such as tripod, lighting, and other necessities. It’s good to have the extra equipment, as they will help make your pictures better, but also, how will they affect your wedding and will they be in the way?

Can you see examples of their work and reviews or references? You want to look through other wedding photo albums that they have done in the past. This way you will get a better idea of the photographer’s shooting style and the way he works. If possible, get references and call former wedding clients. They can give you insight you cannot get from interviewing the photographer. Your wedding is a very special day, and you should have the best wedding photography to help you document and record it. There are many wedding photographers that offer various wedding photography packages so you want to carefully review each one to make sure that you are getting the best wedding photography for your big day. One last thought to consider is if they also have a wedding videographer so you don’t have to work with two different studios. Choose your wedding photographer well and it will help make you big day wedding run smoothly and you can enjoy the photos which you can proudly share for years to come.

wedding W

edding hair designs have seen a considerable change as the fashions through the years change and deciding how to wear your hair and make up for a formal event such as a wedding is a very important decision to make. Today’s styles are much softer and more natural than the rigid styles of years ago being much more free, natural as well as much easier to attain than even those that were fashionable a few years ago. The wedding hair design and how you wear your hair for formal events requires doing some research as well as practicing before the big day or night to make sure you get it right.

Hair Hundreds of eyes will be on the bride on her big day and so the wedding hair will need to be perfect to make the bride feel at her best. How you decide to wear your hair and make up at other formal events is not quite so important as you will not necessarily want photographs to remind you of the big day. This is reason enough to choose a perfect as well as formal hairstyle much before the actual wedding day so as to allow the hairstylist to get it right and if needed to make changes that are required before the wedding day. Coastal Wedding is here to give you ideas of how to wear your hair and make up at formal events and is offering a good starting point to select the perfect wedding hair design. Before selecting a particular hair design, make sure that it also compliments the wedding dress in terms of style, era as well as cut of the dress. The bride should also consider how the rest of the wedding party is going to wear their hair, whether long or short, curly or straight. Decisions such as this go a long way to helping make the day perfect. Co-coordinating the wedding hair styles or how you wear your hair and make up at formal events with those of the wedding party or other guests does not mean having to choose exactly the same styles but the look should compliment each member’s personality,

hair texture as well as facial structure.

The wedding hair style and how you wear your hair at other important formal events is certainly the most important part of the entire outfit and is often the first thing that others notice. The hardest part may be finding the ideal wedding hair design, and brides-to-be are often lost and unsure about which style is the best for them. However, magazines such Coastal Wedding Magazine and Website and tons of others can be found.

The Golden Anniversary

Vic & Norma

were married September 28,1949 in Middle Village, Long Island, New York. The ceremony was performed at Saint Margret’s Roman Catholic Church. In 2013 they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. 16 years past the Golden Anniversary, unfortunately it would be their last of the blissful celebrations. Vic passed away November of 2013 surrounded by family and of course in the arms of his bride that he nicknamed Bun. A little tip that Norma has for all you new brides “The secret to our success was to communicate with each other on every misunderstanding and to love and respect one another”

Fifty years of marriage! You are a proud

part of the six percent of married couples who celebrate that they have been married for fifty years. This anniversary is also called the “Golden Anniversary”. The fiftieth wedding anniversary is aptly called the Golden because it is a tradition to give a gift of gold on that day. This practice started during the Roman Empire when a husband would present his wife with a gold wreath on the fiftieth year of marriage. These days, a more fitting gift is usually gold jewelry. For the fiftieth, the traditional flower gift can be a yellow rose and/or a violet. Invitations to an anniversary party should be sent out at least four weeks in advance of the celebration. An invitation does not imply the need for a gift. Usually, anniversary parties are quiet and intimate. If possible, it is a good idea to invite the best man and maid of honor from the wedding. The seating of guests at an anniversary party is really down to personal taste although traditionally the oldest son sits beside his mother and the eldest daughter beside her father

16

with the best man or maid of honor from the couple’s wedding day and with their respective spouses also seated at the main table.

May: Marry in the month of May, you will surely rue the day

Typically a short speech of some type is expected even at a very informal affair.

June: Marry when June roses blow, over land and sea you’ll go

Wedding Anniversary Month Like the week days, the month of the anniversary also has its own importance. Check out below to learn the importance of months in a married life. January: Marry when the year is new, always loving, always true February: When February Birds do mate, you may wed or dread your fate March: If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you’ll know April: Marry in April when you can, joy for maiden and for man

Coastal Wedding | Summer-Fall 2014

July: They who in July do wed, must labor always for their bread August: Whoever wed in August be, many a change are sure to see September: Marry in September’s shine, your living will be rich and fine October: If in October you do marry, love will come but riches tarry November: If you wed in bleak November, only Joy will, remember December: When December snows fall fast, marry and true love will last

Beach Wedding Beach Wedding Guests Beach weddings with the ocean as your backdrop are absolutely stunning and romantic. But it may pose a few extra challenges for some of your guests. Wheelchair accessibility is often limited on many beaches, and you may also have some guests who will require assistance walking in the sand. One option to solve that dilemma is to rent a wooden walkway for the guests and for you and groom on which to walk. If you would rather have the entire beach experience and not have a walkway, make sure you have arrangements made your elderly and disabled guests. Your groomsmen can help out with that challenge of getting everyone seated comfortably. There should always be a restroom facility close to the wedding site. Ensure that they will be unlocked, clean, and stocked during your beach wedding. If the washroom amenities leave a little to be desired, you may want to bring extra supplies, and even add some fresh flowers to the bathroom. Consider how you will feel about uninvited sunbathers at your beach wedding. If you get married on a public beach then your ceremony will be open to the public. If the idea of uninvited guests watching your ceremony bothers you then you might consider renting a private beach for the ceremony.

Coastal Wedding | Summer-Fall 2014

Getting married on the Central Coast of California with a beach wedding is a dream come true for many brides and grooms. But bringing that beach wedding dream to reality takes some planning.

Beach Weddings Weather Considerations Weather is definitely a consideration when planning a beach wedding, but not something that you can control. But you can make some adjustments to better your odds of having a picture perfect beach setting. Once you have picked the beach of your choice, then select a wedding date that is during their typically dry season, and avoid the rainy season and just in case Mother Nature isn’t cooperating the day of your beach wedding, have a back-up location or a tent ready in case the weather is just too nasty to say your I do’s beachside. Ocean tides need to be considered when picking a time for your beach wedding. Tides can creep up on you quickly, and you don’t want ocean water soaking your guest’s feet before the “You may now kiss your bride” is announced! Check out your specific beach location and visit it during the time you plan to have your beach wedding. You may want to try and guess when sunset will hit, or decide if a morning or afternoon wedding ceremony is more your style. Some beaches have glares at certain times of the day, be sure to visit the beach several times of day before booking your wedding.

coastalwedding.com

Have Fun With the Beach Wedding Theme If you decide to have a beach style wedding ceremony and reception you can have a lot of fun with the theme. Beach wedding ceremonies are typically more casual than traditional church weddings. A bride who weds on the beach usually forgoes the white gown and long train for a simpler wedding dress and the groom often wears khakis and a light colored shirt. Wedding guests at a beach wedding also dress more casual, with Hawaiian shirts and sundresses. Shoes can be optional! Wedding music for your beach wedding can be whatever you want. A soloist is always nice for the walk

down the aisle, but a ukulele, steel drum band, or even background music off of iPod are fun for the reception. Food served at your reception can also reflect your beach wedding theme. Many beach wedding receptions serve seafood and fresh fruit. Seafood laid out on a bed of ice makes a beautiful presentation along with fresh fruit. Locally sourced seafood shouldn’t be hard to find and is a special treat for your out of town guests. Another idea is a beach barbecue. Depending on the formalness of your wedding, you can create a menu that will wow all of your guests! If you don’t want to do your own food, most caterers in beach areas have menus that fit the location. You may also want to come up with creative wedding favors that go with your beach theme like fun beach towels, margarita glasses, beach balls, all with your names and date on them of course! Small decorative candles are always a favorite as they are usable and your guests will think of you every time they use them. Your local craft store will carry almost anything you need to create your perfect favor. Your beach themed wedding cake can have starfish and shell designs made of fondant and brown sugar as sand. Real shells can be also be placed on the cake and taken off when the cake is cut. There are lots of ideas for wedding cakes on the beach, including using real shells or even miniature beach chairs for the wedding topper. Although it takes special planning to have a beach wedding ceremony, if you make your arrangements ahead of time, you could have a beautiful beach wedding.

Wedding

For engaged couples, it can seem as if there are a million things to accomplish before the big day arrives. One essential piece of the wedding puzzle involves creating a registry that makes it easy for guests to celebrate your union with gifts that reflect your personality as a couple.

Registry

Making the Right Choices With all the things needed to properly stock your home, selecting the right ones can seem overwhelming. Here are some tips to keep in mind while adding to your registry: UÊSelect Your Settings: A five-piece setting is meant to serve one person and includes a dinner plate, salad plate, bread and butter plate, tea cup and saucer. If you want to serve eight guests, you will need to register for eight five-piece settings.

Before Building Your Registry

U Factor in Some Extras: When registering for drink ware, be sure to register for a few extras in each glass size in case some break down the road.

It’s no wonder why guests love the ease and simplicity of a gift registry. But many couples may not know where to begin when setting out to create this useful list. Here are some helpful pointers to help you get started on creating a perfect wedding registry:

U Protect Your Cutlery: Be sure to choose a sturdy cutting board to protect your knife blades from chips and cracks. You can keep your cutlery in top condition by registering for a honing steel and knife sharpener.

U Meet with a Consultant: These trained professionals are on site to assist and discuss everything you want and need. Wedding Customs Unveiled Are you curious by all customs and superstitions surrounding weddings? Here are some explanations to help clear things up.

Something Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue We’ve all heard this common rhyme used when someone gets married, but what does it mean? Wearing “something old” represents the bride’s past, while the “something new” symbolizes the couple’s happy future. The bride is supposed to get her “something borrowed” from someone who is happily married in the hope that some of that person’s good fortune rubs off on her. “Something blue” denotes fidelity and love.

Wearing a Veil This custom originated in Rome, when a bride would wear a veil down the aisle to disguise herself from evil spirits who were jealous of her happiness.

Seeing Each Other Before The Wedding This is a superstition that dates back to the time of arranged marriages, when people believed that if the couple saw each other before the ceremony, it would give them a chance to change their minds about the wedding. Today, however, many couples choose to meet up and even have portrait sessions before saying their “I dos.”

Carrying the Bride over the Threshold In Medieval Europe where many believed that a bride was extra vulnerable to evil spirits through the soles of her feet. To avoid bringing in any evil spirits, the groom carried the bride into their new home.

The Wedding Cake The tradition of a wedding cake comes from ancient Rome, where revelers broke a loaf of bread over a bride’s head for fertility’s sake. The custom of tiered cakes emerged from a game where the bride and groom attempted to kiss over an ever-higher cake without knocking it over.

Who Stands Where? The bride stands to the groom’s left during a Christian ceremony, because in bygone days the groom needed his right hand free to fight off other suitors.

Illuminate Your Wedding With

Color

Should you use your favorite color for your wedding theme? What happens if your favorite color is yellow and your wedding is in the winter? It’s still your wedding and your choice if you want to use yellow, but you may not want to use yellow as the main wedding color but more of an accent color such as the mini roses in the bouquets or as the ribbon around your wedding favor. Some of the prettiest weddings we’ve seen have used multiple colors or shades of the same color throughout the planning of their weddings to the actual event. One color is used for the bridal shower,

Color can be used in so many ways for weddings, from an accent color to the main color theme used in everything from the bridal party dresses to the table settings and favors at the reception. It is up to you how much color, or how little color, you want. another color for the ceremony, followed by combining the colors for the reception. It’s actually a very easy thing to do that will result in spectacular look. For example, you have selected blue for your wedding color that’s a great choice for anytime of the year. Your bridal shower kicks off with a lovely baby blue being used as flowers on your cake, bells, ribbons and decorations are intertwined with baby blue and white and your bridal shower favors also feature something blue and look beautiful sitting on your guest’s white table cloths. Moving onto your wedding day, you have selected a deeper shade of blue for your bridal party. The bridesmaid’s dresses are the color of the ocean with your groomsmen bow ties matching. Your bouquet is a white or ivory rose or calla lilies intermingled with the blue hydrangeas, which carries the color theme elegantly throughout the bridal party. At your reception, you have chosen to add an even deeper hue of blue and now have three gorgeous blue shades throughout the reception location. Your bridal table, guest tables, gift table and cake table all have three different cloths with the deepest blue tablecloth on the top. The other colors peek below as they cascade to the floor. White place settings and napkins sit majestically on the deep blue of the tablecloth. Gorgeous tall white candles burn

in the center of each table and at each guest seat is a tasteful white candle wedding favor for your guests to take with to remind them of your beautiful wedding day. Your wedding cake is a cascade of white flowers and pale blue accents. Beautiful white and blue bows are scattered throughout carrying your colors even further. Finally, you have the beautiful blue garter that your husband can sexily slide off your leg! It doesn’t matter which color you select as your wedding color as they are so many creative ways to use color for your wedding. 10 Tips for Buying Your Wedding Gown 1. Start early - Once you have set your wedding date, begin your search for a wedding dress. Even if your purchase a gown off the rack, you need to allow time for finding the wedding gown and for fittings and alteration time.

2. Review your options - There are many places to find your wedding gown such as Bridal Shops, Sample Sales, Department Stores and Renting. 3. Don’t shop alone - Take one or two people with you to give you an honest opinion on how the dress fits and help you determine its appearance from all angles and be sure that the view from behind is as flattering as the front.

4. Buy a dress that fits - Don’t be stuck with a wedding dress that does not fit properly or worse that you can’t wear because it’s too small. 5. Get your purchase order in writing – Include a full description of the wedding gown, including any special charges along with delivery dates and special offers such as free alterations, free shipping and delivery date. 6. Set a budget - Be realistic about your budget and stick to it. Don’t try on wedding gowns out of your price range. You’ll just make the decision process even harder on yourself. 7. Comfort matters - You will be wearing your wedding gown for the entire day and well into the evening, so choose a gown that feels comfortable. 8. Wear a little make-up - If you wear your make-up and fix your hair before shopping, you will have a better idea of how you’ll look on your big day. 9. Try on the whole package - Bring shoes that are the same height of the shoes you plan to wear during the ceremony and a strapless bra. Try on your headpiece and bridal slip to see what the total package looks like. 10. Relax and enjoy yourself - Allow the bridal salon salespeople to pamper you or enjoy the thrill of the bargain shopping of a warehouse sale. Whatever you do, remember the goal of your wedding is to marry the person you love and that your wedding gown is just one part of the ceremony.

Creating a Harmonious Wedding O

ne of the components of creating your perfect wedding is the music. You will need to pick out music for your walk down the aisle, music for the pre-reception cocktail if you choose, and music for the reception. There are many moments during your wedding which will have music playing. Fortunately, there are endless songs from which to choose. There are endless choices for your processional music. Something smooth and soothing is nice for when the guests are being seated. The hustle and bustle of getting guests seated and the quiet conversation that takes place during this time calls for something soft in the background. Live music is lovely, but if you on a budget music from an MP3 player will work too. With the technology these days, music from a Bluetooth speaker can sound just as good as if someone in the room is playing live. Once the guests are seated and the procession is ready to start then it is time to switch over to another song that will complement the bridal party as they walk up the aisle. This doesn’t have to be instrumental, it can be a song that has special meaning to you and your future spouse. It can also be the same song that the bride will walk to on her journey up the aisle. Some weddings have one song for the bridal party and another for the bride. It’s your day—you can do whatever you choose. Once the ceremony is finished it is time to move on to the reception. The announcing of

38

the bridal party is a huge part of the wedding reception. The tradition of announcing each couple and having them walk in to the room is still very popular but a lot of brides and grooms choose to have their wedding party dance into the room. The DJ can do the announcing and each couple dances their way to the wedding party table. It is a fun way to do things, and it really gets the guests into the dance mood. The First Dance is not what it used to be! Nowadays, a lot of brides and grooms turn their first dance into an event involving the two of them doing a choreographed dance to a song of their choice. It can be a rock song, and tango, the jitterbug, whatever you like. Of course, dancing close to your new husband or wife is a beautiful tradition still used at many weddings. You can dance to “your song” or choose something that is a favorite of both. Some couples start out with the tradition and then change over to doing the choreography. If you have DJ he or she can morph the traditional music right into a rock song!

things, and most relatives jump in to join the fun. After the family dance is over with the real reception dance music begins. The music at the reception will set the pace for the rest of the party. If you want a variety of music, a DJ is a good way to go. They can play a rock song and then get the older crowd going on the next song by playing something from another era. Wedding music sets the tone for the entire wedding. If it is a country wedding, then country music is for you. Something small and quiet? A classical quartet might just be the answer. Want to party? Go for a rock band that will get everyone up and groovin’. When choosing your music, take your time, listen to a lot of songs and try to choose something for everybody. It’s your day-kick up your heels!

Dos and Don’ts

of Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties Being chosen to be the Best Man or Maid of Honor is an honor and comes with a set of responsibilities. One of them is to give the bride or groom a Bachelor/Bachelorette party not to be forgotten. There are guidelines—remember, there is a wedding coming up and you don’t want any shenanigans that will affect that special day. Here are few tips to keep it all on the up and up.

wedding date. Better yet, if possible, plan for a week or two before the wedding. If there’s any chance of injury (a ski trip, whitewater rafting), leave several weeks.

Don’t

plot or plan anything that will embarrass the bride or groom so much he or she will be upset or uncomfortable. The tradition of many a pre-wedding party is to hire a stripper. That is a great idea if that is what the bride or groom wants. If not, find something a little tamer for your bash.

Do

share the bill with all the party guests -- except the bride or groom. If the party is going to involve lots of money and a destination out of town, you might find out from the guests what is affordable for them. If you’re the hostess or host, you are not expected to foot the bill! Do plan a party you’re sure everyone will enjoy. Just because you are a fan of gambling and partying in Vegas doesn’t mean everyone else is. Have a discussion with the bride or groom about what kind party is desired. The party is for them—respect their wishes.

Do

make sure that everyone who is invited to the bash is invited to the wedding. Inviting someone to the party that isn’t invited to the wedding can create an uncomfortable situation.

Do

take tons of photos throughout the party weekend. You can turn them into a book to give as a gift to the happy couple so they can reminisce about the fun time.

40

Don’t

let the bride or groom do anything he or she will regret. It is your job to make sure the celebration of impending marriage is civil and respectful. Don’t let the bride or groom do anything that will cause regret. One night of regret will never be forgotten.

Do

something special

A bachelor or bachelorette party is about your group of friends and your bond. You can plan the party around a special restaurant, or somewhere that has a special meaning to the bride or groom. Even if it is somewhere that doesn’t seem that special for a party, rent a limo to get there and back and throw in some special remembrance gifts to make the night a happy memory.

Don’t

remember to have fun

Despite all the excitement and planning going into the party celebration, the most important thing is to just have fun. At the end of the day, it’s all your friends together celebrating an important moment in the bride or groom’s life. Don’t lose sight of that amongst all the other craziness that may or may not be going on. And remember that at the end of the day, it’s not where you are or what you’ll do that matters – it’s who you’re with that really counts.

ETIQUETTE

of

Wedding Speeches and before the meal (sometimes during the meal) It is also common for the best man or groomsmen to read messages or telegrams from absent guests.

The Best Man

The best man’s speech should be light hearted and funny. It is the high point of the speeches and often a much-anticipated part of the wedding. He should always compliment the bride and the bridesmaids and introduce the parents of the bride and the groom. A funny story or two is definitely part of the speech. Keep it clean! Don’t forget to thank the groom for asking you to be the Best Man. Invite all guests to lift their glasses to toast the bride and groom on their special day.

Maid of Honor

The aim of this speech is just to say a little bit about the bride and how beautiful she looks. Look at it as a female version of the best man’s speech that doesn’t need to be funny. Start by thanking the bride for giving you the honor of being her Maid of Honor, followed by a short story about her and finishing by saying how happy you are for her that she has found someone to spend her life with.

Father of the Bride

The Father of the Bride usually gets up, thanks everyone for coming and then speaks about how happy he is that his daughter has found the man of her dreams. The bride’s father’s speech sometimes gets emotional as he talks about “his little girl” and how she grew up into a beautiful woman. The speech can be reminiscent of her childhood and how special she is to him and his family. He can also talk about how happy he is to welcome the groom into the family.

Grooms Have Feelings Too The wedding is almost here. Everybride—her dress, her shoes, her hair, her make up, on and on. Yes, she is the star of the show, but what about this pre-wedding frenzy? During the course of planning the wedding, the groom can get pushed into the background. Once the wedding starts and everyone sees the look on his face when he finally feasts his eyes on his beautiful bride he is once again at the forefront of the day. The theory that men take less interest than the bride about their wedding day really isn’t true. The groom probably hasn’t dreamed of his wedding since his childhood like his bride but now that he is getting married he probably has ideas he would like to express. If

there is anything that you feel strongly about that you want, speak up! It might be one thing that is extremely important or it might be ten. Either way, let your desires be known.

and/or purchased. Remind them of important dates. If you need to have any conversations with them regarding behavior at the wedding do it and leave the bride out of it.

Participate. Meet the caterer. Interview DJs. be a part of the planning. The reason many brides take over the planning is because they can! A lot of grooms only participate in conversations involving budget. It’s not always realistic to expect the groom to invest as much time as the bride does but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to invest any. The more involved you are, the easier it will be for your love to appreciate your input.

Many brides have a hard time letting go because they feel it’s their day. Help her understand it’s the beginning of your life to together and from here on its about us! If you can make her feel that your wedding day is important to both of you, you’ll have a much happier bride and a better wedding planning experience.

Be the level-headed one. Some women, not all, become more emotional than usual. They’re stressed and busy and not everyone cooperates. The time will come when her mother, best friend, or your mother gets on her nerves. This is the time for you to step in and diffuse the situation. Listen when necessary, referee, and empathize. Don’t escalate things. Your goal is to have all relationships intact once the wedding is over. Keep the groomsmen in line. Take charge of the communication. Make sure that all travel arrangements are in order and suits are rented
