Alternate Routes to the Fair
Normally Airport Boulevard and Highway 152 handle the cars and farm trucks pretty well. But when your favorite travel app warns of heavy traffic on the most popular routes to the Fairgrounds you’ll be glad you grabbed the attached map.
Use it to find a road less traveled. It isn’t necessarily shorter in distance but may be quicker in time. At the very least following roads with names like Casserly and Carlton will certainly take you through some beautiful country.
Even though you might have to share the road with a large number of your friends and neighbors, the 2023 Santa Cruz County Fair is worth the trip. And this year you can navigate the back roads like a local with or without that very smart phone.

Whether you’re here for the time-honored traditions or looking to make new memories, there’s something for everyone at the Fair. Take a whirl on a Midway ride (or three), cheer on young competitors in the livestock arenas and horse shows, step into Yesterday’s Farm to discover the roots of our local agriculture, and don’t forget to cap off your evening under the stars with the return of our spectacular nightly drone show. And of course, don’t miss the delicious food, new and returning live entertainment, creative exhibits, and community contests that make our Fair a one-of-a-kind experience.
A huge thank you to our hardworking staff and volunteers — they’re the ones who make this whole thing possible, and they do it with heart and dedication all year long.

Dear Fairgoers, It is with great excitement and heartfelt pride that I welcome you to this year’s Santa Cruz County Fair!
As the newly appointed Fair Manager, I am honored to continue the long-standing tradition of celebrating our community’s rich agricultural roots, local talent, and diverse culture.
Whether this is your first time at the Fair or your fiftieth, there’s something truly magical about coming together to enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes that make our county so special.
This year, the dedicated team of volunteers and staff have worked hard to bring you an incredible lineup of entertainment, exhibits, competitions, food, and fun for all ages. From the livestock barns and handmade crafts to fun rides and lively music, the Fair offers a space where all ages can find joy, make memories and delight in community.

The All-Alaskan Racing Pigs and Pedal Pullers
This is two shows in one! First up, the famous All-Alaskan Racing Pigs are back to hog the spotlight at the Santa Cruz County Fair. These fast and furious farm animals tackle the 100-yard dash and the 50-yard-high hurdles as you’ve never experienced them before.
The prestigious porkers are the fastest and funniest athletes you’ll see anywhere. They’ve brought home the bacon from shows all over the western U.S. and Alaska.
“They love what they do and they like people,” says manager Bart Noll. “We’re humbled by the overflow crowds and hope you’re having as much fun as we are.” Lucky audience members (Pick me! Pick me!) are chosen to lead their section in cheering on each pig. Big bragging rights go to the winning team!
The pigs are powered by cookies. That’s the treat they’re racing to win. A race lasts just six seconds… but luckily, there are four races in each show.
After the race, stick around for an opportunity to meet one of the little piggies. They love to pose for pictures … they’re real hams! Next up, Pedal Pullers! It’s a competition for kids … pullers get behind the wheel of a tractor and pedal with all their might to pull as much weight as far as they can! Pullers have pulled over 400 lbs. the full length of the track! Wow!
Starting at 75 lbs. for four-year olds, the weight increases for older kids and increases even more for each round. If you pull the full distance, you come back for the next round and pull even more. How much can you pull, and how far can you pull it? There’s only one way to find out!

When you enter the Floriculture Building, prepare to be enveloped by bright and beautiful shades of purple, pink, yellow, red, orange and green! We’ve got gardens too!
The Floriculture Building is a great place to learn ways to grow better flowers and plants and gain ideas to improve your garden design skills.
For 2025, the Monterey Bay Dahlia Society will offer daily presentations about how to grow dahlias that will look great in your garden and produce loads of blooms for bouquets and arrangements. We will also have flower arrangement demonstrations on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. And on Friday and Saturday evenings, you can have our expert arrangers build you a corsage or boutonniere with flowers you select.
Every day, the Santa Cruz and Watsonville Bonsai Clubs will provide on-going demonstrations of Bonsai culture. And, this year, the UC Master Gardeners will be set up in Katy’s Courtyard… offering information and answering your questions about everything floral.
Floriculture is a must-see building! It will delight your senses!

These are just some of the outrageous agricultural items on display in the Harvest Building. The Agriculture-Horticulture (Ag-Hort) Department is home to a true show-stopper – giant pumpkins! They weigh hundreds of pounds! There are also giant apples and zucchinis.

Heritage Hog Scholarship Recipient
The Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Foundation is proud to announce Samuel Garcia as the 2025 recipient of the $3,000 Heritage Hog Scholarship! During his time at Aptos High (2021–2025), Samuel earned notable scholastic honors, including the California State Seal of Civic Engagement and the Seal of Biliteracy for achieving fluency in two languages.
A longtime member of Watsonville Ag History 4-H, Samuel served as both President and Vice President over five years. He raised an impressive array of animals including 3 pigs, 40 chickens, 4 rabbits, 2 goats and 2 sheep. Outside of school, Samuel is a Third-Degree Mem-
ber of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady Help of Christians. He actively participates in cherished Portuguese cultural traditions such as the Festa de Nossa Senhora de Fátima and Matança de Porco.
“Winning this scholarship is not just about me,” Samuel said. “It reflects the values my family, teachers, mentors and community have taught me: hard work, service, and showing up for others.” As part of the scholarship, Samuel will raise this year’s Heritage Hog – generously donated by Country Hills Feed.

Wait until you see how creative our local kids are! The Youth Department is a showcase of art and design… with detailed and imaginative displays coming to life!
This year, the department is leaning into the theme “Hay Bales, Piggy Tales, and Ewe. The Aptos Grange is hosting a contest to see who can create the best handmade pig or ewe. Youth Groups can enter through the Youth Department. The winner gets $50!!
The Youth Department is also behind one of the Fair’s most special traditions, Quilts of Valor. As part of the Opening Ceremonies, deserving veterans, who were nominated by family or friends, will receive a handsewn quilt. It’s a tender moment in time… a chance honor military heroes and show them our appreciation. The Mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

Our famous Diaper Derby pits baby and against baby in a “foot race” for the ages! The babies inch their way to victory by making a beeline for a parent at the finish line. Some hustle … some just sit … others wander off. Still, it ain’t over ‘til it’s over! You never know which baby will pull off the win.

Nuestro famoso Derby de Pañales enfrenta a bebés contra bebés en una “carrera a pie” histórica. Los bebés avanzan lentamente hacia la victoria, dirigiéndose directamente hacia sus padres en la meta. Añadió el Concurso de Niños Pequeños para que Paris y los demás bebés participantes originales pudieran seguir compitiendo y sus familias pudieran seguir disfrutando del evento.

Explore 1,100 square feet of marvelous mini beasts to find out how insects and other bugs actually play a huge role in our local ecology and economy. From colorful butterflies to fascinating beetles – and even the creepy crawlers you never knew existed – this hands-on exhibit is family-friendly fun for all ages.
Marvel at the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly with Gilroy Gardens. Find out fascinating bug facts with live and mounted displays from the UC Davis Bohart Museum of Entomology. Observe honeybees at work in their demonstration hive with beekeepers from the Gilroy Beekeepers Association. If you’re having Taylor Swift withdrawals ever since the Eras Tour ended, just Shake It Off! It’s anything but a Cruel Summer at the Fair – because RED is back!
“Red – A Taylor Swift Tribute” is a jaw dropping, faithful recreation of a live Taylor Swift concert. RED is fronted by Lauren Corzine, a talented and beautiful young vocalist and performer. Throughout her career as a singer/songwriter, Lauren was told she looks and sounds just like Taylor Swift. She decided to embrace her striking resemblance to the pop icon and founded RED… an epic journey through Taylor Swift’s entire discography. The show leaves Swifties feeling like they saw Taylor Swift herself live in concert!
“I obsess on attention to every detail, which makes the RED show so authentic and special for Taylor Swift fans. I also try to embody the spirit of Taylor Swift. Taylor is very kind and very generous at her shows. When I’m around other “Swifties,” I feel like we are family because Taylor Swift created that culture. I strive to continue that sense of community family culture in my role as a tribute artist,” says Lauren.
Lauren Corzine was born and raised in Texas. She’s scored three Top 100 songs and two Top 50 singles on the Texas Country Music Chart. Violin on Fire
The name says it all … when he plays, his violin is on fire!
Electric violinist Patrick Contreras has created a unique sound that blends classical, rock, soul, blues and Latino into a sound that is uniquely Contreras – Violin on Fire.
You are going to love seeing Contreras perform! He will pull you into his music and get you up dancing - smiling from ear to ear. Violin on Fire is a show for all your senses … with fun lighting and effects that bring the music alive.
Contreras was young Latino growing up on the wrong side of town when his parents gave him a toy violin as a gift. They had received it from a customer who didn’t have enough cash to pay their bill. His parents eventually bought him an inexpensive, real violin.
“I grew up in a pretty tough neighborhood, so I learned to play a lot more than what they taught in band and in youth symphonies,” says Contreras.
When he was 16 years old, Contreras was selected to play with the Fresno Youth Symphony. That led to trips to Europe with the youth symphony and to Africa to film for a universal care group. The trips changed his life.
Contreras’ sound is unique – immediately recognizable like Hendrix or Santana. He opened for the late BB King, Al Jarreau, Stanley Clarke and The Wailers – before striking out on his own.

“Crecí en un barrio bastante peligroso, así que aprendí a tocar mucho más de lo que me enseñaban en la banda y en las sinfónicas juveniles”, dice Contreras.
A los 16 años, Contreras fue seleccionado para tocar con la Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Fresno. Esto lo llevó a viajar a Europa con la Orquesta y a África para filmar para un grupo de apoyo universal. Estos viajes le cambiaron la vida.

Home Arts conjures up pictures of mom and grandma doing things we thought were normal, necessities of life.
But the world started moving faster and faster and the arts of cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, knitting, needlework … plus grandpa’s woodcarving … all became lost arts.
In the Home Arts department, these skills are alive and well! Not only that, but they’re becoming more important in today’s world. And the great news is, as we say in canning, anyone can do these things!
This year, Home Arts is hosting a Giant Cookie Contest, Decorated Cupcake Contest and the return of the popular Salsa Contest. Special guest judges will taste and savor several offerings (check the Entry Guide for dates and times) and decide which local contestant will take home the top prize!
There is sew much going on in Home Arts this year as we celebrate Hay Bales, Piggy Tales & Ewe! We sure hope you pop in and check it out… you might find a new skill!

Our new category “Animal Artists” was a big success last year … so we’re bringing it back!
Porkchop the Pig won 1st Place for sculpture. And Dusty Degas, the dog who paints with his tail, took home a 1st in the painting class. It was a real plus when owners included photos of their furry and four-legged artists at work. Make sure to pop into Fine Arts so you can see the creativity of our local animals and their owners. This year’s entries promise to be awesome!
As always, Nate Bennett will return with his crew to demonstrate their amazing glass blowing skills … on Friday Sept. 12th and Saturday Sept. 13th from 7pm to 9pm. It’s a dazzling display of art and craftsmanship!
The Fine Arts building also houses our Poetry Department. This year, the Poetry Department will pay tribute to former department head and local poet, Stephen Bankhead.

Bankhead’s award-winning poetry will be read at our Poetry Recital on Saturday Sept. 13th at 1pm by our host, Joseph Eaton. All poets who have entered their work are welcome to read as well. Fine Arts is a treat for the eyes and ears!

Rodgers House
Take a trip back in time… and visit the historic Rodgers House on Friday, September 12th, starting at 6:00 p.m.
We call it the Twilight Experience. The house takes on a magical glow as it is lit by low lighting and candles. A gentleman is playing the piano and staff are dressed in clothing from the late 1880s and early 1900s. Guests are invited to walk through the house and immerse themselves in the year 1878.
The Rodgers House was built in the 1870s by James Rodgers. The house contains archives chronicling its history, including stories of the Rodgers family and the history of the Pajaro Valley. Several notable family photographs feature author John Steinbeck, Esther Rodgers’ brother. One depicts Steinbeck carving the family’s Thanksgiving turkey.
The Rodgers House was moved to the fairgrounds in four pieces in late 1998.
In addition to the Twilight Experience, guides give tours of the Rodgers House throughout the Fair. See the daily schedule for details.
Senior Contest on Senior Day
Seniors rule! And the Santa Cruz County Fair honors them with their own day!
On Opening Day, we invite all seniors to compete in the Senior Contest. The great news is… all seniors must do is be themselves!
The Senior Contest includes categories like oldest person in attendance, longest married couple, couple with the most great, great grandchildren, and the senior who traveled the furthest to attend the Fair. It is truly an eye-opening and wonderful thing to learn about the interesting and long lives of these Fair patrons.
Immediately following the contest, seniors can enjoy an Ice Cream Social. We extend a huge thank you to West Coast Community Bank for sponsoring the Ice Cream Social for the third year in a row.
Like the Diaper Debry and Toddler Contest, The Senior Contest comes from the creative mind of longtime Fair volunteer, Loretta Estrada.

Powerhouse!!! Percussive Dance
You loved them on America’s Got Talent (Season 8) and now you can experience the show, in person, at the Fair!
POWERHOUSE!!! Percussive Dance combines innovative tap, precision clogging, Irish step dancing and explosive stomp into an electrifying dance experience. The show is highly interactive, exciting for all ages, culturally significant and contemporary at the same time. The dancers are selected from top competitive performers in the country.
Kids… be ready to jump on stage and learn some of the awesome moves!
Director, Brian Bon, is a nationally recognized competitor, instructor and performer with 1000s of awards and titles… and more TV and Film credits than any other clogger in the country.
The group has a 30-year history in the fair and festival industry along with more TV appearances than any other percussive dance group in the country. They also have an exciting curriculum-based arts education program.

On Senior Day at the Fair, prepare to get into the swing of things!
South Bay Swing Band was formed in 1998, under the direction of Steve Chambers. Chambers is a clarinetist/ saxophonist and he holds a BA in music from San Jose State University. Chambers was also a charter member of the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra.
The band was formed to provide an opportunity to play and perform music from the Big Band Era and to encompass the talents of local professionals, talented amateurs and accomplished youth musicians from the area.
South Bay Swing Band brings back the classic pop tunes of the times, the full horn shout choruses, the driving rhythms, the catchy vocals and smooth, lush ballads and harmonies.
South Bay Swing Band has recorded two CDs, “Steppin’ Out” and “Uptown Stomp.”
Holiday Lights and Holiday Fair
It’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit!
Holiday Lights, the magical Christmas light show returns every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night between Thanksgiving and Christmas! Back for its sixth year, Holiday Lights will be bigger than ever and will feature new displays! Volunteers have been working since last year’s event to create new lighted characters, trees and all types of fun and festive things to look at as you drive through the three-quarter mile experience. The Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Foundation and the Agricultural History Project proudly create this event each year.
While this is primarily a drive-thru experience, we have two special nights where you can walk through and see the lights up close and personal. Friday Dec. 5th and Saturday Dec. 6th, you can enjoy both the lights and great holiday shopping at the Holiday Fair.
The 48th annual Holiday Craft and Gift Fair, presented by the Fairgrounds Foundation, returns Friday and Saturday-- December 5th & 6th. From noon until 9:00pm, the Harvest, Crosetti and Fine Art buildings will once again be filled with great handmade crafts and gifts for the holidays. Come join us for what has become the official start of the holiday season here in the Pajaro Valley. Bring your family and friends to find one-of-a-kind special holiday gifts for everyone on your list.
Funds raised at these events benefit both the Agricultural History Project and the Fairgrounds Foundation.

Luces navideñas y feria navideña
¡Nunca es demasiado pronto para contagiarse del espíritu navideño!
Luces Navideñas, el mágico espectáculo de luces navideñas, regresa cada viernes, sábado y domingo por la noche entre Acción de Gracias y Navidad. De vuelta por sexto año, Luces Navideñas será más grande que nunca y contará con nuevas exhibiciones. Desde el evento del año pasado, los voluntarios han estado trabajando
para crear nuevos personajes iluminados, árboles y todo tipo de elementos divertidos y festivos que podrá admirar mientras recorre el recorrido de tres cuartos de milla. La Fundación del Recinto Ferial del Condado de Santa Cruz y el Proyecto de Historia Agrícola organizan con orgullo este evento cada año.
Si bien esta es principalmente una experiencia de autoservicio, tenemos dos noches especiales donde podrá caminar y ver las luces de cerca. El viernes 5 y el sábado 6 de diciembre, podrá disfrutar de las luces y de excelentes compras navideñas en la Feria Navideña.

Collect a stamp at each of the locations listed in the Passport… then bring it back to the Information Tent and spin the Prize Wheel to win a special prize!
The Information Tent is also where you can purchase this year’s Fair souvenirs - hats, shirts, Fair pins, posters and more!
Fairgrounds Foundation – Funding Your Fairgrounds Future
The Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds are considered one of the best maintained and beautiful fairgrounds in the State. How does that happen? The Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Foundation, with the generous help of community members, funds capital improvements to ensure the continued vitality of the Fairgrounds. The Foundation has invested almost $4.7 million in the buildings and grounds at the fairgrounds since its inception 23 years ago.
The Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded by a group of Fair supporters who wanted to preserve the fairgrounds and the community-based activities that take place there. The organization has certainly lived up to its motto: “Funding Your Fairgrounds Future.” And, in the process, it has received four Chamber of Commerce Awards, one for Best Organization and three for Best Event.
Its current project is to add a 16 x 80 addition to Heritage Hall. The addition will house a kitchen, restrooms and storage area. The building is used extensively for employee training and for small family events such as bridal and baby showers, quinceaneras, and weddings. During disasters, it is used as an infirmary and Red Cross Station. These activities would be much more efficient with an available restroom and kitchen in the building. Currently, guests must walk several hundred feet for a restroom and meals must be prepared off-site.

The White Album Ensemble
Beatles fans ... you will Feel Fine when you Come Together for this epic show!
The White Album Ensemble is a group of professional musicians with credits from The Doobie Brothers, Todd Rundgren, The Tubes, Snail, Rita Coolidge, Little River Band and many other top acts.
The group began performing in 2003 to sold out shows of the Beatles’ “White” Album, thus the name. After numerous successful concerts, and a few member changes, they decided to do anything the Beatles did, after they quit touring at Candlestick Park, in San Francisco in 1966. The songs were enhanced by other musicians and became more complex as they stopped worrying about touring and focused on writing great songs. The WAE performance will include favorites from albums Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s, Let It Be, The White Album (of course!) and their masterpiece, Abbey Road.
The present line- up is Richard Bryant (vocals), Drew Harrison (vocals), Dale Ockerman (keyboards, guitars, electric sitar), Ken Kraft (guitars and vocals), Endre Tarczy (bass and vocals), Stephen Krilanovich (guitars and vocals) and Trey Sabatelli (drums/vocals).
The White Album Ensemble has performed several times at the Santa Cruz County Fair! They always enjoy the outdoor Bandshell and watching fans dance on the grass and in the bleachers!

Amateur Wine
Did you know we live in a very special place when it comes to grape growing and wine making? It’s one of the oldest and most unique wine regions in all of California.
Did you know you can make wine at home? It’s a fun hobby that blends science and art… and can be very rewarding!
The Santa Cruz Mountains have many diverse microclimates which produces more than 20 varieties of grapes. It inspires many home winemakers to try their hand at creating their own.
That’s why we have the Amateur Winemaking Department at the Fair! Once a year, home winemakers have the opportunity to enter their wines into a competition and have them evaluated by a panel of expert judges. Judges include professional winemakers, wine writers, educators and more. Winemakers get valuable feedback which helps them refine and perfect their skills.
Visit our display in Heritage Hall and learn more about the process of winemaking. You’ll also see the entries and winners. And, the lovely labels on the bottles … a committee chooses their favorites.

Ragtime Corner
New this year: Ragtime Corner!
Born and raised in Santa Cruz, the “Ragtime Rev” has dedicated his career to preserving the classic American musical styles like ragtime, boogie-woogie and hot jazz/swing.
A regular performer in “Trad Jazz” festivals across the country, the “Rev” has also toured internationally as pianist and musical director of the pop sensation Postmodern Jukebox.
He is the founder/director of the Santa Cruz Ragtime Festival, which he hopes to revive with the goal of preserving our American musical heritage.
Don’t miss Ragtime Corner at Heritage Hall, Wednesday and Thursday during the Fair, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Handspun/Handwoven
Hay Bales, Piggy Tales & Ewe - the theme beautifully weaves its way into the Fair’s Handspun/Handwoven Department. Follow this “thread,” clothes and fabrics are made of wool, wool comes from sheep and a female sheep is a EWE!
Our crafters/makers practice an art as old as time. As long as humans have needed cloth and baskets – spinners and weavers have been there to work their magic of creation. This year, our magic will be made in the Poultry Barn – filling in for our absent feathered friends.
Don’t miss our exciting “Art-in-Action” stage. Weavers with small, portable looms and Spinners with various kinds of spinning tools, will show off their talent and answer questions from inquiring minds, young and old! We find school kids have amazingly interesting questions! As in years past, we will be holding our WASCAR Competition on Saturday afternoon. Never heard of WASCAR? The initials stand for “Wheels And Spindles Creative Arts Racing.” It’s the wackiest, most fun spinning competition you’ve ever witnessed!
Spectators are welcome to cheer on the intrepid racers. And if you think you’re up to the challenge, you can join in the mayhem. You’re sure to have a good laugh! Come have a look in the Poultry Barn! Ask questions and if you’re adventurous… try your hand at spinning or weaving! There will be lots of helpers to get you started.
Hilado y tejido a mano
Pacas, Colitas de Puerco y Ovejitas – el tema se entrelaza con belleza en el Departamento de Hilados y Tejidos a Mano de la Feria. Sigan este hilo conductor: la ropa y las telas están hechas de lana, la lana proviene de ovejas, ¡y una oveja hembra es una OVEJA!
Nuestros artesanos/creadores practican un arte tan antiguo como el tiempo. Este año, nuestra magia se creará en el Gallinero, reemplazando a nuestros ausentes amigos emplumados.

Yesterday’s Farm –Presented by the Agricultural History Project
Take a step back in time… before grocery stores and food delivery apps. How did we manage to eat? Yesterday’s Farm is the place to find out!
When you enter through the Main Gate, turn right and you’ll find yourself in a quaint place called Yesterday’s Farm, sponsored by the Ag History Project. Here, you’ll enjoy our many exhibits highlighting the history of agriculture on California’s Central Coast. We have a variety of (no cost) hands-on demonstrations and activities for people of all ages. Kids can milk a simulated cow, pump water by hand, learn about how food was prepared ‘back in the day’ and even drive a full-size, antique tractor.
Visit our Restoration Shop and see the projects we are actively working on. Talk with our many talented volunteers who can answer your questions about historical machinery and the incredible progress attained in feeding and clothing all of us. Also, please take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about how you can participate in our many varied programs.
On your way out of Yesterday’s Farm, please stop in our Gift Shop and purchase someunique souvenirs! It’s not every day you get to experience a glimpse of life on the farms of yesteryear … we highly recommend it!

Hang on! It’s going to be a bumpy ride – in the best way possible! We have camel rides!
Grab a friend or two (camels can carry more than half their weight!) and hop on the back of a Dromedary Camel. Animal fact: Dromedary Camels have one hump.
These camels were acquired from domestic breeders in the United States, as camels are no longer allowed to be imported to the U.S. Their owner, Kyle McGranahan, is a real-life cowboy who used to train horses. Until one fateful day, when a friend asked him to train a camel. He fell in love with the animals and sold his horses. He now works exclusively with camels.
The camels enjoy a diet like that of horses- grass, hay, and grain. Contrary to what many people think, the humps of the camels are not filled with water. They’re filled with dense fat. This fat can hold water for up to three weeks, which allows camels to survive for long periods of time without water in the desert. And there’s no need to be afraid, camels do no spit or bite. That’s a llama thing. (Sorry llamas, but it’s true.)
All the camels are extremely docile and enjoy being around people. Climb into the saddle for the ride of a lifetime … and get an awesome photo too!

Mezmer showed signs of his unique talent at the tender age of five. As an adult, he has become a well-known and respected expert in the field of hypnosis. He is highly sought after as a lecturer as well as an entertainer. He presents quantum stress management workshops at corporate events and universities around the country. The International Hypnotherapy Conference has invited him to be a guest lecturer and starring performer.

Stop and smell the roses … in our Rose Garden!
The Monterey Bay Rose Society has maintained the Rose Garden, at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, since 2009.
There are about 130 roses in the garden. We invite you to take a stroll through the abundant leafy bushes… where the fantastic flowers provide a colorful and sweet-smelling backdrop. It’s an oasis amid all the hustle and bustle of the Fair.
The goal of the Rose Society is to educate the public on growing and caring for roses in our area.
The group hosts a workday the second Saturday of every month, from 10am until noon. Everyone is welcome to come and help nurture these beautiful blooms.

The Magic of Frank Thurston is an interactive family comedy magic show.
It’s the perfect show for people of all ages. Frank entertains as well as mystifies! He’s known as the “Magician of FAMILY-FUN!”
Frank Thurston was voted Best Magician in Bakersfield and has been picked as Kern County’s Favorite Magician since 1984. He’s also a performing-member at the worldfamous Hollywood Magic Castle.

Drone Show
The ultimate in entertainment is happening in the sky above the fairgrounds! The Santa Cruz Lights Drone Show is back … following an incredible debut last year!
200 state-of-the-art drones will light up the night sky … every night of the Santa Cruz County Fair. This year’s fun-filled show will include many Fair-themed images and other recognizable Santa Cruz icons. The drones will come to life at 9:00pm. The show, lasting about 14 minutes, is choreographed to a custom music track.
“The show is always a team effort,” says Terry and Deb Toews of Skye Dreams LLC. “We meet at the site to survey the facility, work with Fair management and the creative team from the Fair to create a music track and inventory of images for the show. Once the music and images are done, designers program the show and test fly the show virtually. The Drone Port launchpad is set up the day before the show starts, readying the drones for flight. On the day of the show, the technical team charges the batteries, finalizes the file for the show, and checks each drone for showtime!”
Skye Dreams is starting its fourth year producing drone shows throughout central California. Our show will feature the newest drones, each equipped with three, large 1600 lumen LED RGB lights capable of more than 2,000 colors. Shows start at 9:00 pm each evening of the Fair. It’s FREE and visible from all over the fairgrounds! The grandstand will be open for seating on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the best viewing!

¡Lo último en entretenimiento está en el cielo del recinto ferial! El Espectáculo de Luces con Drones de Santa Cruz regresa… ¡tras un increíble debut el año pasado!
200 drones de última generación iluminarán el cielo nocturno… todas las noches de la Feria del Condado de Santa Cruz. Este año, el divertido espectáculo incluirá imágenes con temática de la feria y otros iconos reconocibles de Santa Cruz. Los drones cobrarán vida a las 21:00 h. El espectáculo, de unos 14 minutos de duración, cuenta con una coreografía musical personalizada.
“El espectáculo siempre es un trabajo en equipo”, afirman Terry y Deb Toews de Skye Dreams LLC. Nos reunimos en el lugar para inspeccionar las instalaciones, trabajamos con la administración y el equipo creativo de la Feria para crear la banda sonora y el inventario de imágenes para el espectáculo. Una vez que la música y las imágenes están listas, los diseñadores programan el espectáculo y realizan pruebas virtuales. La plataforma de lanzamiento del Puerto de Drones se instala el día antes del inicio del espectáculo, preparando los drones para el vuelo. New to the Fair: Los Dinnos!
In 1986, a musical dream began – one that would eventually become known as Los Dinnos. This successful group is composed of César Valdiosera, Víctor Sánchez, Osbaldo Contreras, Maro Moreno, Uriel Moreno, and Mario Valencia. All members are originally from Aguililla, Michoacán, Mexico – a cradle of great artists.
In 1988, Los Dinnos recorded their first album, “Soledad,” which gained state-level radio play.
Fast-forward to 1995, when the group recorded their sixth album, “Amor. They received a Platinum Record for more than 300,000 copies sold in the United States.
Los Dinnos has recorded a total of 12 albums! We are so excited to have this prolific musical group performing at the Fair!

Escaramusa Charra
This is ‘girl power’ on horseback!
Escaramusa Charra El Centenario is the only female equestrian event in the Mexican Charrería. The escaramusa means “skirmish.” It consists of a team riding horses in choreographed synchronized maneuvers to music. The women ride side-saddle and wear traditional Mexican outfits including sombreros, dresses and matching accessories. A team consists of 16 women, but only 8 rides at a time. The routine is practiced in a circular arena.
It’s beautiful and exciting to watch!
The escaramusa season runs from February to November. The U.S. nationals are held on Labor Day weekend. The grand finale is held in Mexico. The event brings together more than 80 teams from both countries.

La Escaramusa Charra El Centenario es el único evento ecuestre femenino en la Charrería Mexicana. La escaramusa significa “escaramuza”. Consiste en un equipo que monta a caballo en maniobras sincronizadas y coreografiadas al ritmo de la música. Las mujeres montan de lado y visten trajes tradicionales mexicanos, incluyendo sombreros, vestidos y accesorios a juego. Un equipo
está formado por 16 mujeres, pero solo montan 8 veces a la vez. La rutina se practica en una pista circular.

La temporada de escaramusa va de febrero a noviembre. Los nacionales de EE. UU. se celebran el fin de semana del Día del Trabajo. La gran final se celebra en México.

Espectáculo de Caza/Saltador Ocean Breeze
El Espectáculo de Caza/Saltador Ocean Breeze se enorgullece de anunciar su reconocimiento oficial por parte de la Asociación Estadounidense de Cazadores y Saltadores (USHJA). Esta distinción marca un hito importante para el evento y refleja su compromiso con la excelencia en la equitación, la competencia y la comunidad.
El Espectáculo Ocean Breeze ofrece algo verdaderamente especial tanto para expositores como para espectadores. Cada noche a las 17:00, se encienden las luces y la diversión arranca a toda velocidad con nuestras populares clases nocturnas. Estas no son las típicas rondas de exhibición: te esperan estilo, energía y mucha potencia. Observa a los jinetes competir en nuestras clases de campeonato, incluyendo el siempre entretenido Desafío de Versatilidad, donde los jinetes Western entran y los jinetes Hunt Seat salen, con vestuario completo y cambio de aparejos para caballo y jinete. ¡Es una verdadera prueba de adaptabilidad, estilo y equitación!
Primero, llega el corte, donde los equipos de caballo y jinete demuestran precisión, control y sentido común al separar a un solo animal de la manada y mantenerlo separado. Sin cuerdas, solo instinto puro y trabajo en equipo. Después, quédense para el emocionante deporte de la clasificación del rancho, donde parejas de jinetes compiten contra el reloj para mover el ganado en orden numérico de un corral a otro. Es un desafío rápido y de alta presión que pone a prueba la sincronización y el trabajo en equipo.

Vea cómo los lazadores se enfrentan en este evento trepidante y de alto riesgo, avalado por la Asociación Americana de Lazos por Equipos de Vaqueros (ACTRA). Con habilidad, ritmo y trabajo en equipo en plena exhibición, los cabeceadores y los talones compiten por los máximos honores y el derecho a presumir. ¡Es una acción clásica de rodeo que no se querrá perder!
Entre los favoritos de los aficionados se encuentran nuestros eventos de Saltos por Parejas y Relevos, donde los jinetes se unen con atuendos temáticos para rondas llenas de diversión, estilo y muchas risas. La emoción continúa con nuestra clase de Saltos Gambler’s Choice, que exhibe las vallas más grandes del espectáculo. En esta ronda de alto riesgo, caballo y jinete deben equilibrar velocidad, precisión y una estrategia inteligente mientras compiten contra el reloj para ganar puntos superando tantas vallas como sea posible. Si son lo suficientemente valientes, pueden optar por la audaz Valla del Jugador para obtener una gran bonificación.

Alongside all your Fair favorites, the fairgrounds also host a multiday Horse Show featuring both English and Western riding.
You don’t need to know the difference between a lope and a canter to enjoy the action. Just grab a seat in the bleachers and watch as talented riders and their horses show off skill, style and showmanship that’ll have you cheering! It’s boots, spurs and horsepower at its finest!

Wednesday, September 10 –Cow Horse Show
Get ready for a full day of fast cattle work and serious horsemanship as Cinch Up Productions takes over the arena this Wednesday at the Santa Cruz County Fair!
(USHJA). This distinction marks a significant milestone for the event and reflects its commitment to excellence in horsemanship, competition and community.
The Ocean Breeze Show offers something truly special for both exhibitors and spectators. Each night at 5:00pm, the lights go on and the fun kicks into high gear with our popular night classes. These aren’t your typical show rounds – expect flair, energy, and a whole lot of horsepower. Watch riders compete in our championship rail classes, including the always-entertaining Versatility Challenge – where Western riders ride in, and Hunt Seat riders come out, complete with a full wardrobe and tack change for both horse and rider. It’s a true test of adaptability, style, and horsemanship!
First up, it’s Cutting, where horse and rider teams demonstrate precision, control and cow sense as they work a single animal out of the herd and keep it separated. No ropes, just raw instinct and teamwork.Then stick around for the thrilling sport of Ranch Sorting, where pairs of riders race the clock to move cattle in numerical order from one pen to another. It’s a fast-paced, high-pressure challenge that puts timing and teamwork to the ultimate test.
Thursday, September 11 - Marlene Deitzel Memorial Team Roping, 7pm
Watch as Ropers go head-to-head in this fast-paced, high-stakes event sanctioned by the American Cowboy Team Roping Association (ACTRA). With skill, timing, and teamwork on full display, headers and heelers compete for top honors and bragging rights. It’s classic rodeo action you won’t want to miss!
Ocean Breeze Hunter/Jumper Show
The Ocean Breeze Hunter/Jumper Show is proud to announce its official recognition by the United States Hunter Jumper Association
Fan favorites include our Costumed Pairs Jumpers and Relay events, where riders team up in themed attire for rounds filled with fun, flair, and plenty of laughter. The thrill continues with our Gambler’s Choice Jumpers class, showcasing the largest fences of the show. In this high stakes round, horse and rider must balance speed, precision, and smart strategy as they race the clock to earn points by clearing as many fences as possible and if they’re brave enough, they can go for the daring Gambler’s Fence for a big bonus.
Whether you’re cheering from the stands or riding under the lights, the Ocean Breeze Show promises unforgettable eve nings filled with competition, camaraderie and the kind of summer magic only horses can bring.
