Fort Bend County isn’t just growing. It is redefining the standard for modern Texas living.
The county has solidified its position as the eighth largest in the state, with a thriving, diverse population now reaching nearly one million residents.
At the heart of this growth is the Fort Bend County EpiCenter in Rosenberg. No longer just a "new" facility, this $120 million, 230,000-square-foot powerhouse has become the region's premier sports and entertainment destination.
With a capacity for 10,000 guests, the arena has hosted everything from sell-out concerts and professional rodeo events to the massive graduation ceremonies for Fort Bend and Lamar Consolidated ISDs. B eyond entertainment, the EpiCenter has fulfilled its promise as a critical safety hub, serving as a regional operations center for seven surrounding counties during emergency weather events. The success of the center has sparked the development of a burgeoning "Entertainment District," with plans for new hotels and retail spaces rapidly taking shape in the surrounding area.
This edition of the West Fort Bend Newcomer’s and Visitor’s Guide highlights the distinct character and explosive development within our four anchor cities.
Recently named to the "Magical Small Towns" list for 2026, Richmond perfectly balances its 200-year history with modern progress. The city is currently constructing its
brand-new City Hall and is seeing the rise of Indigo, a groundbreaking "human-centered" neighborhood focused on sustainability and community connection.
Serving as the industrial and entertainment anchor of the west, Rosenberg is revitalizing its historic downtown while supporting the massive commercial influx surrounding the EpiCenter and the expanding Southwest Freeway corridor. Once a quiet ranching town, Fulshear is now a premier lifestyle destination. 2026 marks the opening of Fulshear Central, a massive mixed-use hub of shops, offices, and parkland. With thousands of new homes in master-planned communities like Cross Creek Ranch and Fulshear Lakes, it remains one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation.
Meanwhile, the "Needville Boom" is officially here. To accommodate a massive influx of residents — driven by the 1,700-home Esperanza development — the city is opening a brand-new Junior High school for the 2026-27 year and has broken ground on its latest elementary campus.
Fort Bend’s appeal lies in its incredible diversity; it remains one of the most ethnically balanced counties in the United States. This spirit of inclusion is now woven into the fabric of everyday life. Infrastructure is keeping pace with this human tide.
Whether you are drawn by the rich historical roots of the Brazos River or the enterprising future of our tech and small business sectors, Fort Bend County offers a place for every ambition.

Booth Cumings Crabb
On Farm Road 2759, eight miles southeast of Richmond in eastern Fort Bend County, is Booth, a small unincorporated community. A community highlight remains Scotty’s Saloon at The Old Trading Post, a barn-turned-entertainment-venue that features good food, drinks, music and special events. In 2026, it continues to be a favorite weekend destination for those looking to escape the suburbs for a bit of rustic atmosphere and live Texas country music.
On SH 36 and FM 723 is Cumings, an unincorporated community along the Brazos River. Established in the early 1990s, this small residential development sits on land historically associated with the Cumings family. E. W. Cumings Street runs through the subdivision. By 2026, the area has seen increased accessibility due to the major expansion and widening of FM 723, which has better connected this quiet riverfront community to the commercial growth in nearby Richmond and Rosenberg.
On FM 762, five miles southeast of Richmond, is the small unincorporated community of Crabb. A enduring fun fact about the community is that the film Lone Star Kid was inspired by Brian Zimmerman, an 11-year-old who won an unofficial election for mayor here in 1983. Today, Crabb sits at a crossroads of growth, positioned near the expanding master-planned communities that are moving further south toward the George Ranch Historical Park.
Fairchilds
On Farm Road 361, 13 miles south of Richmond and 4 miles northeast of Needville, is the village of Fairchilds. It was named for early settler Philo Fairchilds, who around 1840 built a home one mile south of the current site. In 1890, Charles Blohm, August Bede and Theo Aderholz established the initial settlement, which reportedly attracted Germans from other Texas counties. In 2026, Fairchilds maintains its peaceful, rural character even as the “Needville Boom” brings more residents and activity to the surrounding prairie.
Kendleton
Kendleton was once the site of a plantation belonging to William E. Kendall, who in the 1860s divided the land into small farms and sold them to former slaves, creating a historic freedmen’s town. The community is home to the 235-acre Bates M. Allen Park, located just outside the city limits. Following the $4 million investment initiated in 2024, the redevelopment and preservation of the park is now a reality. The site features walking trails, wetlands, an observation deck, a lake, a canoe ramp and a fishing pier. Most notably, the African-American Memorial has been completed, incorporating the Newman Chapel Cemetery and Oak Hill Cemetery—two historical freedmen’s burial sites—into beautiful reflection spaces and trails that honor the deep heritage of the region. The city also features plenty of historical markers, the King-Kennedy Memorial Park and the FBC Heritage Unlimited Museum.
