he town of Oro Valley has been named a “triple crown winner” for fiscal year 2020 by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The “triple crown” designation recognizes governments that have received GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and the Distinguished Budget Presentation in a single fiscal year. The town of Oro Valley is one of just 317 governments that received the “triple crown” for fiscal year 2020. “We are thrilled to be recognized by the GFOA for achieving this distinction,” said David Gephart, chief financial officer. “It reflects the many hours of our dedicated, hard-working team who care about and are charged with producing accurate, easyto-read financial information reflecting the highest standards in our industry.” The town of Oro Valley’s Finance Department is primarily responsible for preparing documents recognized by the GFOA. The “triple crown” designation represents a significant achievement. To qualify, each entity must meet the high standards of all three separate award programs. wo Oro Valley women who founded a group to support female business owners are seeing the group expand and grow in other communities. Hilda Ramirez and Nelly Holst formed Women Entrepreneurs of Oro Valley in 2019 with the vision of empowering and elevating women. The group provides mentorship, business education and
financial literacy to its 41 members. As a group, members also become members of the Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce. There are monthly meetings featuring speakers on issues that affect women-owned businesses and a monthly coffee social open to members only. Ramirez, a native of Mexico, was an Army wife for 21 years before her husband retired. She is a business consultant who works with startups and owner of a European coffee house in Catalina. Ramirez also is a Realtor and notary.
