ucson came together Jan. 30 to honor the life of Lydia Reis, known as the “Umbrella Lady,” at Tohono Chul Botanical Gardens & Galleries. Known for her Victorian-style dresses, Lydia was known to walk along Oracle Road with an umbrella, hiding her face. On Jan. 5, Lydia was struck and killed near Ina Road and Giaconda Way. She died Jan. 8. The Pima County Sheriff ’s Department said Guadalupe Solis, 53, was booked on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. Close to 300 people — some with umbrellas — attended the public memorial service. Two of Lydia’s brothers, Chris Reis and Tony Reis, traveled from California and thanked the community for their “kind words and acts of generosity and compassion over the years,” Chris said. “You are the reason why we chose to have this celebration in Tucson.” Chris thanked Kristie Zoltowski in
