Salem provides quality and caring dental careStudioFIT’s ‘X-factor’ is key to success

For the past seven years, Dr. Danny Salem has provided full-service dentistry services in the Chandler area. Prior to that, he worked as a dentist in New York City for eight years.

“I provide full-service dentistry services for children to adults, and I’ve had further training in implants,” Salem says, adding that he refers very little work to specialists.

“We can handle extractions, root canals and cosmetic dentistry, too. We are able to do a lot of procedures in our office.”

As a family practice dentist, Salem says he enjoys working with several family members who come to him for their routine cleanings and other dental care.

“They often comment that they prefer going to just one office, and they are happy to hear that we can provide all

services under one roof.”

For people who are nervous about visiting the dentist, Salem says he and his staff do everything they can to help make the experience as stress-free as possible.

“We take all of the time that is necessary to make patients comfortable, and we provide nitrous and some other forms of sedation,” Salem says.

“We explain everything very thoroughly, and we make sure the patient is comfortable before we get started. Sometimes people are nervous due to having a fear of the unknown, so we do provide all the time that is needed and do what we can to reduce their anxiety.”

Salem says he has also been told by reluctant patients that they are embarrassed about the state of their oral health, and that this prevented them from making an appointment sooner.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

Nish Shah, D.M.D., M.D.

Sleep Apnea has become one of the leading US health concerns that we face as we continue to treat an aging and oftentimes overweight population. Patients who have been diagnosed with sleep apnea can have symptoms that include a feeling of being tired, fatigued and sleepy during the daytime. Many people who develop sleep apnea start with snoring, which can then progress towards apnea, where they stop breathing. The benefit of treating sleep apnea is that it will reduce the complications associated with sleep apnea. These complications include: problems with your endocrine system [thyroid problems and diabetes], hypertension, congestive heart failure, cardiovascular disease including heart block and arrhythmias, an increased risk of stroke, mood disorders and of course, increased mortality. After seeing this long list of complications, one can see why it is so important to treat the obstructive sleep apnea [OSA] as soon as it is diagnosed. Once a patient has been diagnosed with OSA, it is important to begin immediate

treatment. The gold standard in treating sleep apnea has been CPAP [continuous positive airway pressure], where oxygen is forced into their lungs to keep the airway open so the patient does not stop breathing and keeps enough oxygen in the system to keep the brain and heart supplied to function normally.

Unfortunately, there are many people who cannot tolerate CPAP and therefore seek alternative treatment options with us.

When you come into our state of the art facility, we will perform a complete and thorough head and neck examination including radiographic analysis of your facial structures. We will discuss the different options to treat sleep apnea from oral devices that open the airway to definitive jaw surgery to correct for abnormal facial development.

Contact our office (480) 814-9500 to schedule your consultation with Dr. Nish Shah and visit our website www.azoral.com for all our services provided.

“I’m always kind of surprised that they feel that way. They have to understand that I’ve seen it all, and nothing fazes or surprises us, and that there can be systemic health issues if they don’t go regularly.”

This same calm and caring approach also works well with young children who are visiting Salem’s office for the first time.

“We also take whatever time is necessary with kids, and if they are really having a hard time sometimes we won’t do the procedure, but we’ll hold off or reschedule it. We won’t force it,” Salem says.

“This is especially important for kids, because I’m not looking to make them uncomfortable about going to the dentist for the rest of their lives.”

Regardless of whether he’s cleaning the teeth of a young child or performing a root canal on an adult, Salem says he is proud of the high-quality dental care that he and his staff provide each patient.

“We open at 7 in the morning, but I’m here every day at 6. I love my job, which is why I get there early,” Salem says.

“I just have a lot of confidence in the work that we do.”

Before he opened StudioFIT in Chandler three years ago, M.J. Reavley spent years working for what he calls “global gyms”—big membership-based facilities that feature loads of equipment and members.

“One of the main problems I saw in these gyms is that the only people who were getting results were the ones who were working with a personal trainer,” says Reavley, who also owns StudioFIT in Scottsdale.

“People join global gyms with the intention of getting in shape, and maybe they go for a week or two. But the numbers told me that most people will end up not using their gym membership, and even if they do, they will not get the results that they want or need because not everyone has $60 to $120 an hour to pay a personal trainer.”

For people to work out on a regular basis and, if needed, lose weight, Reavley says clients need three key things: accountability; motivation; and guidance.

“This is the X-factor that people need to get in shape, and satisfying this need is where StudioFIT came from,” he says.

“Adults are just big kids, and without

WHAT’S IT WORTH?

The summer is upon us and, with temperatures in the 100s, I am sure you would like the opportunity to get away for a long weekend to a “cool” vacation spot. You can generate that extra cash to enjoy this break by using an asset you already own.

Is there something in your safety deposit box, garage, a drawer or maybe on a wall in your home that has value and can be converted to cash? Take some time and look for this asset that no longer is bringing you pleasure or is not appreciating and find out “What’s it worth.”

There are experts who have the capability to evaluate collectables, jewelry, art, etc. through research and market knowledge who will provide the estimated value of your

item. There are consignment stores on every corner that will take the item and attempt to find buyers. There is also the Internet, which is becoming a mall and shopping center. The valuables that before were not readily saleable now can be sold 24 hours a day. But first you need to have the experts determine a value. From this point, the marketplace will determine the true selling price. Also ask the experts if they are possible buyers of the assets. It will expedite the conversion of the item to cash. Please take the time on one of these hot days to search for valuables that can be converted to funds for a break from the heat. Remember there are experts and buyers who want to assist!

the X-factor, I’ve found that they don’t have a chance. Unless you are an alien from Pluto or are in that maybe 1 percent of people who can motivate themselves to keep going, you need those three things.”

At StudioFIT, Reavley says a group of 10 personal trainers offer 50 training sessions weekly. People purchase a membership and can pre-schedule times when they can show up and be led through a workout by one of the trainers.

“All of the trainers are certified with four-year degrees and, thanks to the quality of the program, we have the ability to modify workouts to each person’s ability and fitness level,” Reavley says.

“This means that I’ll see a 65-year-old grandma next to a 25-year-old college stud, and they are both high-fiving each other after finishing exercising because of the culture that we have.”

Instead of getting lost in a sea of

“If you are looking for rock walls and a smoothie bar, you won’t find them here. But you will find a bunch of like-minded people who can work out together and get to know the other people.”

In its three years, StudioFIT has helped make a positive difference in a lot of lives, Reavley says.

Engenuity helps make new housing for ill children comfortable and safe

Staff members of Chandler-based Engenuity Systems recently donated time, expertise and products to help repurpose a dilapidated Mesa medical facility into the newest Ronald McDonald House.

The 16-bedroom, 10,225-square-foot facility will provide low-cost housing for families with seriously ill children as they receive medical attention in the Valley.

“The Ronald McDonald House at Cardon Children’s Medical Center will be a home away from home for our families, providing a level of safety and comfort at an incredibly difficult time in their lives and relieving stress by being with other families facing similar challenges,” says Rhonda Anderson, the hospital’s CEO.

Engenuity Systems and its sister company, Small Box Energy, made the facility comfortable, energy efficient and safer by partnering with customer, Dataline Resource, to design, create and install a building automation system. This system included security monitoring, access control and fully integrated HVAC controls. The system will ensure that residents feel safe in their new home while the HVAC controls

will keep them comfortable during even the hottest of Arizona summers. Security and temperature control were especially important aspects of the project, as many residents are not from the Valley and therefore have concerns about the heat, as well as their children’s safety in an unfamiliar environment.

“Engenuity Systems exists to help people and solve problems.” For more than 20 years that has been the simple mantra of the company, according to CEO and Founder Tracy Markie. Both Markie and his employees were extremely grateful for the chance to use Engenuity Systems’ building automation and controls knowledge to help solve problems for such a worthwhile cause.

The company has a history of helping people in their community through their partnership with the domestic violence shelter My Sister’s Place in Chandler.

The company accepts donations of unwrapped toys and clothing at its Chandler headquarters on behalf of the shelter. To learn more, or to schedule a donation to My Sister’s Place, visit www. womenshelters.org. To learn more about Engenuity Systems, visit www.engenuity. com.

Overhead Storage has unique system

Keep Space Overhead Storage started up in the garage, like many great companies do, with a successful overhead tote-storage system called Keep Track. The tracks suspend totes above the garage door, fastened into the ceiling joists.

Inventor Marshall Schoewe has shifted onto an all new secret storage spot, or Keep Space as he calls them, that most everyone has readily available.

“Think of something besides just your shelf for a change” is the company’s slogan. The use of these voids of space inside the typical bedroom or hallway closet is another one of the Keep Spaces made useful with innovative niche storage products, such as Keep Racks and Keep Twist.

Keep Racks began with luggage in mind, but quickly discovered that snow skis, wakeboards, snowboards or golf clubs stow away nicely across Keep Racks as well.

Now a variety of large rigid objects like luggage or sports equipment can be raised up into place, and then the pair of supports pivot or swing out beneath the item to rack it securely away from the closet shelf, out of sight and without compromising the current close uses.

Keep Twist storage containers are durable, 7-gallon heavy duty pails. These containers conveniently dock with a slight twisting motion into the ceiling-mounted lids. The docking latches will indicate with multiple audible clicks that Keep Twist is secured in place. To remove the containers, just simply reach up holding

the bottom of the container and reverse the twisting motion to release it for instant access. Keep Twist dock just inches above all closet doors in an empty space against the header away from shelves. Keep Twist hang completely hidden out of sight, while not interfering with other closet uses.

Keep Racks and Keep Twist are products that create all-new storage in those useless voids of space found behind closet headers in all apartments and homes. The twist-out and fold-away features allow access to the confined but useful void where no other product can function or be accessible because they require additional space for loading where

other products simply do not.

Almost all home or apartment closets with a 9-foot or higher ceiling height and 7-foot closet door scenario have plenty enough headroom (24 inches or more) for nesting large pieces of luggage vertically against the header. Or, if the ceiling height is only 8 feet, the luggage can easily lay flat in the available 12-inch-high space without hindering the closet shelving. Now larger or longer items like skis, boards, luggage or golf clubs can rack up above, hidden and in a prime location with a climate-controlled environment.

For more information, visit www. keepspaces.com or like them on Facebook, Keep Space Overhead Storage.

Precision Air and Heating is environmentally conscious

At Precision Air and Heating, preservation and environmentally conscious efforts are part of its mission.

To Precision Air and Heating, sustainability is a priority, and old heating and cooling units aren’t thrown away, as they are with other companies. Instead, these units are recycled and torn down in a way that environmental harm is prevented as much as possible. And the units are made into something useful. The company has also been pouring their efforts into speeding up the phase out of R22. R22 is an environmentally dangerous chemical that the EPA believes to be destroying the ozone.

OWNER: Precision Air and Heating owner Erik Bryan. Submitted photo

According to owner Erik Bryan, he believes that the strength of the company is attributable to the people behind it, the employees. With every hire, he ensures that he knows everyone by name and that each employee is presentable, articulate and proactive. Bryan believes that this is absolutely crucial to gaining the trust of clients, especially those who have had traumatic experiences with contractors before. Bryan also trains his employees

to be patient and accommodating toward clients, so that they genuinely feel the sincerity of the company in assisting them with their needs.

Precision Air and Heating has more than 50 employees, more than 14,000 customers and $12.5 million in revenue.

A HVAC company owned and managed by Bryan, some family members and reliable staff, Precision Air and Heating is located in Chandler. It has been in business since 1995.

Residential and commercial heating, as well as cooling and plumbing are some of the home-performance services offered by the company.

“If we treat people right the first time, our business will grow,” Bryan says.

Apart from providing high-quality professional home-performance services to its clientele, Precision Air and Heating also offers financial support to a number of groups and charities, such as the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, as well as local youth sports initiatives.

Clothes Mentor opening in Chandler

Women’s

Most women agree that they have hidden secrets in their closets—clothes and shoes that they no longer wear for a multitude of reasons. Eventually, the outfits are relegated to the back of the closet.

Now, instead of hoping a consignment store will sell them or give them away, Clothes Mentor Chandler will pay cash on the spot for outfits.

Clothes Mentor Chandler announced that its new store—located in Harmon Ranch Plaza at 5055 W. Ray Rd.—is “open to buy” purchasing clothes. Clothes Mentor Chandler is owned and operated by Ryan and Amy Malmquist. For more information, call (480) 347-9478 or visit https://www.facebook.com/ ClothesMentorChandler.

“We are so excited to bring Clothes Mentor to the East Valley, and we look forward to forming strong ties in the community,” Amy says.

According to the Malmquists, it will take at least two months to fill the 3,400-square-foot store. It expects to start selling clothes in the early fall and plans to hire 15 full- and part-time employees.

The couple is optimistic about the store’s future.

“We saw an opportunity, and we thought Chandler would be a great location for a Clothes Mentor,” Ryan says.

“We have spoken to numerous women around town, and the reception has been extremely positive.

“Now is a great time for women to get cash from the items they no longer wear. No appointment is needed, just bring your items in a box, bag, or basket, and we will do the rest.”

Amy explains that the store will have more than 17,000 items on its racks.

“All day, every day in our store, we will pay cash for brand-name, we like to say, ‘previously loved’ fashions and accessories,” she says.

“Unlike a consignment shop, we pay immediately for the items that we accept to sell in our store. Who doesn’t like some extra cash?”

The store’s philosophy is: “If you are not wearing it, get cash for it.”

According to The Association of Resale Professionals and America’s Research Group, about 12 to 15 percent of Americans shop at resale and consignment stores per year, and the number has grown 7 percent annually for the past two years.
