Parents and their children ages 5 and younger are invited to participate in “Raising a Reader,” a free eight-week series of classes held from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Sept. 2 at the East Valley Jewish Community Center, 908 N. Alma School Rd., Chandler.
Presented by Southwest Human Development, the fun, interactive workshop is part of a national program that educates parents about the importance of early literacy skills. The workshop features singing, dancing, arts and crafts, books, book bags and certificates of completion.

YoLove to donate part of proceeds
YoLove will donate 20 percent of all sales Wednesday, Aug. 27, to East Valley Jewish Community Center’s preschool program.

Temple Havurat Emet has announced its schedule for the celebration of the upcoming Jewish High Holy Days.
Rosh Hashana services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, and 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, with a luncheon held at Chompie’s, 3481 W. Frye Rd., Chandler.
Yom Kippur services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, and 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, with an afternoon service beginning at 3 p.m. Yizkur and concluding service times will be announced during the morning services.
Hebrew reading crash course offered
Learn to read Hebrew and explore the kabalistic meaning behind the shapes and names of the letters in the Hebrew alphabet. Come and enjoy this lively five-week crash course in Hebrew. Chabad center, preschool host barbecue
Parents and children are invited to attend the community barbecue in celebration of the Pollack Chabad Center for Jewish Life’s first anniversary.
The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Pollack Chabad Center for Jewish Life, 875 N. McClintock Dr., Chandler.
The community barbecue/open house will provide a forum for parents to ask questions about the various programs at the Chabad center’s Chandler Jewish Preschool, to meet the warm and dedicated teachers and experience the unique educational environment.
