iven our continuing population growth, the WestShore is now located in three provincial electoral districts! These are 1. EsquimaltColwood (including View Royal), 2. Langford-Highlands, and 3. Juan de Fuca-Malahat, which stretches from Metchosin, west to Port Renfrew, and north of Cobble Hill. The surprise decision by the leader of the BC United (formerly BC Liberal) Party to pull out of this year’s election to avoid potential vote-splitting with the Conservative Party has added an interesting twist to the 2024 process before the election has even been called! As a non-partisan, non-profit organization, the WestShore Chamber of Commerce does not support any individual candidate or party, but actively promotes opportunities for voters to find out more about all of the candidates so they can make an informed choice. You can register to vote, find candidate lists, district maps, and a whole lot more at elections. bc.ca, a non-partisan Office of the Legislature. While electoral districts are set, candidates can submit their nominations to Elections BC until 1 pm on September 28, so the final list of candidates will not be confirmed until after that date. As I write this, organizations in the community are attempting to put together all-candidates forums without necessarily having all of the candidates confirmed, so events taking place are likely
to be shared at short notice! As we hear about them, we will add them to our Community Calendar at westshore.bc.ca
KEY DATES TO BE AWARE OF ARE :
October 7 is the last day for online and telephone voter registration. Advance voting takes place in your community from October 10-13 and 15-16, with everything closed on October 14 for Thanksgiving. Final voting day is October 19. The WestShore Chamber of Commerce provides support and services for those doing business in Colwood, the Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, and View Royal.
