Sweating is Your Super Power
Have you ever wondered why we sweat?
Healthy sweating from being in a sauna can improve health by increasing blood flow to vital organs. Some studies indicate this may help excrete toxins like bisphenol A (BPA) and other heavy metals like cadmium, arsenic, mercury and lead.
A few other benefits of regular sauna bathing include:
1. If summer heat is taking a toll on you, you can help your body adapt by training its natural response to heat stress in short sauna sessions.
4. Even on hot days, sauna bathing will have an immediate positive effect on blood pressure.
5. Sauna heat helps reduce muscle aches. Blood vessels relax and dilate, blood flow increases, helping reduce tension in the joints and relieve soreness. Want to give sauna sweating a try?

3. Hot /cold contrast therapy improves sleep quality, so alternate your sauna with a cool dip! Better sleep improves memory and problem-solving.

In last month’s Healthy Living section I shared what coaching is and how it works. This month I’d like to share some of the things I focus on with my coaching clients and why the tagline of my business is Courage, Communication, Connection.
One of the topics I hear often from clients is that they are lonely. It seems like there is an epidemic of lonely people out in the world.
As author Brené Brown, PhD. LMSW has been quoted as saying, “we are hardwired for connection.” For many who aren’t feeling this sense of connection in our individualistic society, the loneliness is becoming hard to bear. They don’t know what to do. They’ve tried to reach out and make new friends, to make plans with existing friends but it isn’t working. There is a huge sense of disconnection in their lives. And this struggle isn’t age specific. There are a plethora of books on connection out in the world now. A quick search on Amazon will yield enough to keep you busy for several months.
This is one of the many areas that I support clients in. I share that it will take COURAGE for them to step outside of their normal habits and beliefs to decrease their sense of loneliness. It will take improved COMMUNICATION skills to discover their needs and wants and how to express them as well as how to truly listen to others. Working on these things will result in either new CONNECTIONS in their lives or a deepening of existing ones.
Through the coaching relationship we partner to create opportunities to stretch out of that comfort zone, to take a bit more of a risk. We focus on ways to improve communication skills and the coaching relationship helps the client to be accountable to the changes they say they are wanting in their lives. By providing a safe space that isn’t going to judge them but rather get curious about what got in the way of the action and how to learn from it. No matter what area of your life you are wanting to change it is going to take COURAGE to do it. Improving our COMMUNICATION will make a difference in all aspects of your life. And CONNECTION is something we all need in our lives, whether it’s personal or professional.
Whether it’s improving your relationships, changing careers, starting a business, planning your retirement, getting out of your comfort zone, growing your courage or being a better communicator, coaching can help with all of these things and more.
Life can be hard. Having a partner on the journey who empowers you but doesn’t give advice can change your path and the destination. Book a FREE 30 minute Sample Coaching session to get a feel for coaching. It can change your life.

Mindful Eating for Digestive Wellness: Embracing the Summer Bounty
As the summer season unfolds in British Columbia, we are presented with a golden opportunity to prioritize digestive wellness by
Understanding the Digestive Benefits of Mindful Eating
Mindful eating not only promotes a positive relationship with food but also offers numerous benefits to digestive wellness. By cultivating awareness and adopting mindful eating practices, we can optimize digestion, reduce discomfort, and nourish our bodies from within.
1. Enhances Digestive Enzyme Secretion: When we eat mindfully, we engage our senses and stimulate the release of digestive enzymes. This aids in the breakdown and absorption of nutrients, ensuring efficient digestion and optimal nutrient utilization.
2. Supports Gut-Brain Connection: Mindful eating helps foster a strong gut-brain connection. By tuning into our body’s hunger and fullness cues, we develop a better understanding of our dietary needs, which can lead to improved food choices and portion control. This balance supports gut health and helps alleviate digestive discomfort.
3. Reduces Stress and Promotes
Relaxation: Stress is known to impact digestion negatively. Mindful eating encourages us to slow down, savor each bite, and create a relaxed eating environment. By reducing stress levels during mealtimes, we enhance digestion, minimize digestive disturbances, and promote overall well-being.
Dedicate To Your d
embracing mindful eating and indulging in the abundance of local, seasonal produce. By adopting mindful eating practices and
incorporating locally sourced foods, we can enhance digestion, support gut health, and derive maximum nutritional benefits from the summer
harvest. Let’s explore the concept of mindful eating and highlight the digestive benefits of the vibrant produce available this season.
Embracing Digestive Wellness with Local Foods
British Columbia’s local produce offers an array of digestive-friendly foods that are abundant during the summer season. By incorporating these nourishing options into our meals, we can support digestive health and enjoy the benefits of seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Here are some digestive-friendly choices to embrace:
1. Fiber-Rich Fruits and Vegetables: Locally grown berries, leafy greens, stone fruits, and seasonal vegetables are excellent sources of dietary fiber. Fiber adds bulk to the stool, promotes regular bowel movements, and supports a healthy digestive system.
2. Aromatic Herbs and Spices: Local farms offer an assortment of fresh herbs like mint, basil, ginger and rosemary. These herbs not only add flavor to dishes but also possess digestive benefits. Mint helps soothe the stomach and aids digestion, while basil, ginger and rosemary have carminative properties that can help alleviate bloating and support digestion.
3. Gut-Friendly Fermented Foods: Explore locally made fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir and kombucha. These probiotic-rich foods promote a healthy balance of gut bacteria, aid digestion, and strengthen the immune system.
Practicing Mindful Eating for Digestive Wellness
1. Slow Down and Chew Thoroughly: Take time to thoroughly chew your food, allowing the digestive enzymes in your saliva to begin the digestion process.
3. Engage Your Senses: Appreciate the colors, textures, and aromas of the Summer bounty you consume. Engaging your senses during meals enhances the mindful eating experience and supports digestion.
2. Mindful Portion Control: Pay attention to portion sizes and eat until you feel comfortably satisfied rather than overly full. This promotes better digestion and prevents digestive discomfort.
4. Stay Hydrated: Hydration is crucial for digestion. Alongside enjoying local fruits and vegetables with high water content, remember to drink adequate water throughout the day to maintain hydration and support healthy digestion.
By embracing mindful eating, we can prioritize digestive wellness and enjoy the seasonal bounty while optimizing digestion. Mindful eating supports the release of digestive enzymes, fosters a strong gut-brain connection, and reduces stress, all of which contribute to better digestion. Embrace the digestive benefits of local produce, practice mindful eating, and nourish your body while savoring the flavors of the summer harvest. Happy Summer!
