Back by popular demand, The Drifters will again take the stage at the Nixon Centre in Newnan. Beginning in the early 1950s, their hits “Up on the Roof,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “This Magic Moment,” and “Stand by Me,” have become true

classics. The Drifters were the first musical group to include string instruments into R&B with “There Goes My Baby” and the first musical group to sell two million records with their pop classic, “Up On The Roof.” They were among the first African-American vocal groups to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with fellow inductees the Rolling Stones, the

Fall Art Walk Friday

The Art Walk is a celebration of local art, hosted twice a year in downtown Newnan. During the

Art Walk, businesses extend their hours to host storefront exhibits and demonstrations curated by a variety of Newnan’s finest artists. Complimentary samples and hors d’oeuvres will be served by some local businesses, as well as specials and promotions. Visitors can expect to stroll through over 30 locations and see the work of at least 40 artists, and will find a wide variety of art styles and mediums, including oil on canvas, acrylics, engraving, pottery, photography, jewelry-making, fiber arts, performing arts and writers. The downtown streets and sidewalks are sure to be filled with unexpected talent and delightful entertainment. There is no fee for admission to this event.

The Newnan Cultural Arts Commission is presenting a free jazz concert at the Greenville Street Park, beginning at 8 p.m. The Fall Jazz in the Park band will be Groove Centric. Their music is an embodiment of jazz, neo-soul, R&B, blues, pop, and funk. As adept musicians, Groove Centric will begin with a classic Miles Davis song, transition to the smooth sounds of Jill Scott and end by grooving to the head-bopping funk of James Brown and Earth Wind and Fire. Groove Centric’s mission is to captivate you with their eclectic blend of R&B, jazz and blues and leave you yearning for more.

and help save lives by donating blood at Stephanie Fagerstrom State Farm Agency, 28 Hospital Road in Newnan. In only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant gratification. To make an appointment or to learn more, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1800-733-2767). A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at checkin. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. For more information, call Stephanie Fagerstrom at 770-683-3676.
