July 27 | 1 p.m. | $0 The Coweta County Farmer’s Market offers locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey, and fresh cut flowers. On Wednesdays, the Farmer’s Market is located around the Courthouse Square in Downtown Newnan from 9 am to 1 pm. It is facilitated by the UGA Coweta County Extension office, in partnership with Main Street Newnan and Coweta County. The market is recognized by Georgia Grown, and holds a membership through this program. Produce sold at the downtown market is strictly agricultural and excludes craft. A small percentage of agricultural by-products may be sold alongside some produce.

Farm to Table Living July 28 | 11:30 a.m. | $15 The farm-to-table way of thinking focuses on using extremely fresh ingredients that have been barely modified, sometimes presented raw just a few feet from where they grew. Learn about the health benefits of embracing this philosophy with an emphasis of freshness, seasonality, local availability, and simple preparations. Speakers include: Tricia Stearns - Director of PTC Farmer’s Market, a Dietician with Diabetes Association of Atlanta, Scott Tyson – Owner of 180 Degree Farm, Lisa Stillman – Dietician with Alpha Internal Medicine. Mary Poppins July 8 - Aug 7 | 7:30 p.m. | $30 - $45 The Legacy Theater, located at 1175 Senoia Road in Tyrone, will present Mary Poppins, a priduction suitable for all ages. The awardwinning show is directed by Mark Smith, The Legacy’s Artistic Director and features lyrics by the Sherman Brothers. Starring as the title character is Elon alumnus Savannah Sprinkle. Sprinkle will play opposite of Trevor McChristian. The remaining cast is an array of talent returning to The Legacy. Mary Poppins runs from July 8 through August 7 with performances Tuesdays - Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30 - $45 and can be purchased online at www. thelegacytheatre.org or by calling the Box Office at 404-895-1473. Talented Tenth Christian Academy prepares to launch at St. Smyrna By REBECCA LEFTWICH becky@newnan.com All summer, St. Smyrna Baptist Church has been filled with the sounds of children singing, praying and learning as they participated in summer camp. Not much will change in Aug ust , when 4 0 st udents begin regular full-time school at the newly established Tal-

ented Tenth Christian Academy, which will be housed at the church. “Talented Tenth” is a principle introduced by activist and scholar W.E.B. DuBois in which, according to St. Smyrna pastor Tamarkus Cook, “There is a talented 10th percentile, and within that percentile they possess everything they need to lead the other 90 percent.”

But at Talented Tenth Academy, the aim is not to identify a talented percentile. Instead, Cook said, “We want to identify the talent within each child and work on that internal gift development. That’s what is unique and makes the program viable.”

Nor is the aim to take away from Coweta Cou nt y pub lic schools, where Cook’s own 5-year-old son was a student last year. “My son never struggled in
