Gauteng’s Class of 2025 delivered a strong result, placing 3rd nationally with an 89.1% pass rate (behind KwaZulu-Natal 90.6% and Free State 89.3%). Nationally, the NSC pass rate rounded to 88.0%.
Across the big gateway subjects, History was the top-performing subject nationally (91.8% at 30%+), while Mathematics stayed the toughest (64.0%).
In Gauteng specifically, Maths came in at 67.0%, and Physical Sciences at 76.5%.
The pass rate only reflects learners who wrote matric. The throughput rate tells the longer story: out of the learners who were in Grade 10 in 2023, how many made it through to matric by 2025 — which means it also captures learners who left school before Grade 12 (or didn’t reach matric yet).
For Gauteng, a 66.5% throughput rate means that out of every 100 learners in that cohort, about 67 made it through to matric by 2025 (national throughput: 64.4%).
Gauteng by the numbers (NSC 2025):
• Pass rate: 89.06%
• Bachelor passes: 48.2%
• Distinctions: 5.1%
• Maths (30%+): 67.0%
• Physical Sciences (30%+): 76.5%
• Throughput rate: 66.5% (National: 64.4%)

It is a privilege to communicating our phenomenal Matric Results for 2025. It is imperative to remember that the measure of individual success is more about analysing continuous improvement against benchmarked goals. We are so excited to congratulate the whole class who have without exception performed against our high standards.
What makes these results even more significant is that the majority of our Matrics began their educational journey right here at St Dominic’s, in our Pre-School and Primary School. The foundation of excellence laid during these formative years – academically, socially, spiritually, and emotionally – has played a vital role in the success we celebrate today. These results are a powerful affirmation of the strength and continuity of a St Dominic’s education from the earliest years through to Matric.
Together, the class performed beyond all expectation. Statistics don’t always highlight the individual learner’s achieved milestones but we can as a management team individually congratulate each and every learner on an outstanding set of results.
The salient statistics, however, tell a remarkable story of success.
• 84 lear ners sat the exams with 100% achieving a pass.
• 100% qualify for Tertiary studies and 99% achieved a Bachelor Degree pass.
• 210 distinctions were achieved, impressively spread throughout the grade with 95.24% of our Matrics achieving distinctions.
• From all IEB candidates nationally, the following St Dominic’s girls achieved results placing them in the top 1% in South Africa for their respective subjects:
• Alyssa João – Life Sciences and English
• Emma Rose – English
• Jasmi Ram – English
• Yan Wei Huang – Business Studies
• Daniella Todd – Business Studies
• Ntandoyethu Mthethwa – isiZulu
• The IEB recognises candidates who achieve within the top 5% nationally in 5 subjects, and obtain a Level 7 in Life Orientation. We are delighted to congratulate Alyssa João on achieving this exceptional achievement!
Although we have mentioned some of our top achievers, we reiterate that only the limited space provided us from detailing all of the girls’ achievements. We congratulate each Matric on an outstanding set of results!
On behalf of the Board of Governors and the school management team, I congratulate our Matrics, their parents and families, and all of our teachers. It is a very proud day in the history of St Dominic’s.

It is with immense pride and gratitude that I congratulate the Waterstone College class of 2025 on their outstanding IEB matric results. These results reflect what can be achieved through perseverance, excellence and sustained focus, even in the face of demanding academic expectations. The class of 2025 has set a remarkable benchmark for the school. With an average of 2.3 distinctions per candidate, a group average of 71.7%, and 100% of learners qualifying for entry into tertiary studies, these results speak not only to academic ability, but to discipline, resilience and a commitment to giving one’s best. They affirm the value of consistent effort over time and the importance of setting meaningful goals and working steadily towards them.
At Waterstone College, we believe that success is never the result of individual effort alone. These achievements are a reminder that education is, and always will be, a team effort. Congratulations once again to the Class of 2025. You have made your school proud, and we look forward to the impact you will have in the years ahead.
The Waterstone College high school offers a balanced Senior and FET Phase education that blends academic rigour with strong cultural, sporting and leadership opportunities. In Grades 8 and 9, learners

follow a broad curriculum spanning languages, Mathematics, Sciences, EMS, Arts and Technology, including Coding and Robotics, supported by excellent facilities such as a dance studio, gymnasium, high-performance centre and indoor swimming pools. In the FET Phase, learners complete the IEB matric in small classes, with a wide range of electives across commerce, sciences, arts and technology. Curro Choice allows learners to broaden their subject offering by enrolling for additional subjects in a supervised online environment.
Behind every successful learner is a dedicated team. I extend my sincere thanks to our passionate and professional staff, whose expertise, care and belief in our learners continue to make a lasting difference. I also thank our parents for their unwavering support and partnership, which play a vital role in creating a stable and encouraging environment for learning.
We invite you to our Open Day on 21 February 2026, where you can discover our offering and see how we prepare young people for real life.
