NEWS With great sadness we announce the death of Ajay Kumar Chandel, Director of KAN-THT (a joint collaboration of Kagaku Analysis AB Sweden and Thermal Hazard Technology, UK). Aged 39, Ajay was a lively person very dedicated to his work. He was instrumental in establishing KAN-THT in India, providing business development and strategic marketing knowledge to both Indian and International companies. The KAN-THT team will continue with Ajay’s spirit and energy to work towards the strategic goals he established. He passed away on 10th Dec 2016 in a road accident on the Delhi Jaipur Highway. Our deepest sympathies are with Ajay’s family, friends and colleagues.

ARC Range
ARC Demand for THT Li-ion Battery Calorimeters continues at the highest level seen. France is becoming a major player in EV battery research and development. It is home to a number of significant battery and EV manufacturers. Renault, in collaboration with Nissan and the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA), have built a factory outside Paris with an annual production capacity of 100,000 to 350,000 EV batteries. In response, Thermal Hazard Technology is pleased to announce ES as representatives of THT battery products in France. With a strong background in battery analysis equipment and support team located throughout the country we are pleased to be partnering with ES. The Battery Show Europe 2017 THT will exhibit at The Battery Show Europe in Sindelfingen, Germany, from 4th to 6th April. Please visit us at booth # 235 with any questions you might have regarding the ARC, IBC or battery testing in general. A product showcase presentation given by Danny Montgomery our Senior Research Scientist is also planned on the booth at 3pm Tuesday 4th April.
THT has consolidated the range of Accelerating Rate Calorimeters with all operating on a common electronic and software platform. This allows use of 2 or 3 calorimeters of different size to be used – making a unique and modular family of calorimeters able to test coin cells (and battery components) to large EV batteries and small modules • The esARC for small batteries and components. • The EV ARC for small to large cells. • The EV+ for large format cell.

Latest ARC Publications Toyota, MEET Battery Research Center and ZSW have all published new research papers in 2017 using the ARC to investigate the thermal runaway of lithium-ion batteries. A full list of abstracts is available at the following link. Please feel free to email us any relevant references that we have missed! MEET Battery Research Center also recently presented ARC data during the Advanced Automotive & Industrial Battery Conference Europe. A copy of the presentation given by Dr Falko Schappacher is available for download.

IBC
The Isothermal Battery Calorimeter (IBC), available for demonstration. Our demo unit manufactured by US firm Calarus Corporation caters for 18650 or 26650 sized cells. The heat flow calorimeter is a convenient method for measuring heat capacity. In addition, when connected to an external cycler, it collects heat rate during charge and discharge protocols.
