Process Safetyand & Optimisation Calorimetry Battery Safety Battery Performance Studies

Welcome to THT’s newsletter, focusing on calorimetry for chemical process safety and optimization applications

News

Following sustained growth in demand for products, THT has recently expanded the UK headquarters. The new sales office, situated on the same site as our existing facility means we can more easily welcome our clients. More space has also been added to our R&D and production areas, we have also been refurbishing the site at the same time. The new sales office and increased production space will facilitate the continued expansion and growth of the business. THT UK welcomes new staff Helen Scudamore - Office Administrator, Stephen Hopkinson - Mechanical Assembly Technician and Cathy Conlan - Finance Manager. Cathy takes over from Sonia Jakes who retired after working with THT for 5 years. All at THT offer Sonia our best wishes for the future, it has been our pleasure to know her and to work with her. Over in Dehli Khagesh Vasishtha joins THT-India as Country Manager.

New Product Videos

µRC µRC Hydrogenation Option.

Building on the ARC Battery video released last year, we have commissioned a series of short videos to highlight our other products: ES-ARC, RSD and µRC. All videos are available on our YouTube channel. For a more in-depth insight into any of our calorimeters, please request a WebEx seminar with one of our applications specialists.

ARC ARC Papers Dr Zi-Chao Guo from Nanjing University of Science and Technology Estimation has used experimental data from the THT ES-ARC to estimate kinetic parameters in the paper “Estimation of kinetic parameters from adiabatic calorimetric data by a hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization method”. A full list of abstracts citing the use of the THT ARC is available at the following link. Please feel free to email us any relevant references that we have missed!

The hydrogenation option has been redesigned with the addition of a needle valve to more effectively control the flow of hydrogen. The option provides a means for applying an over pressure of hydrogen (or other gas) into a specially designed µRC test cell inside the calorimeter. The rig delivers the gas simultaneously to both the sample and reference cells. A pressure relief valve set to 30 bar prevents excess pressure rupturing the stainless steel cells and causing damage to the calorimeter chamber. Read more in our application note Latest µRC Posters / Papers Dr Adrian Wolf from BTU; Brandenburg University of Technology: Cottbus – Senftenberg, recently presented a poster describing their work with the µRC at the 22nd Kalorimetrietage meeting in Braunschweig. The solid addition accessory was used to study the enthalpy of different reactants in ionic liquids. A copy of the poster “Micro reaction calorimetry for investigation of phase formation processes in ionic liquid flux systems” is available for download.

An Introduction to the THT ES-ARC for process safety in the chemical industry. This video gives a brief overview of the instrument and how it works.

Hyungsoo Kim and his team from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology have published µRC data measuring the stabilization energy of carbonated salts resulting from the titration of excess ethylene glycol. Follow the link to the abstract and paper download. Dr Mohammad Abu Zahra’s group at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi continue to use the µRC for amine solution characterisation. The latest paper describes the use of the GFO - gas flow option to determine CO2 absorption heat of aqueous amine solutions.

RSD Watch the new video for Rapid Screen Device. The RSD is a safety calorimeter designed for quick yet accurate safety evaluation of multiple chemical samples in a single test. This video provides a brief overview of the instrument and its functions

View an Introduction to the THT µRC for testing small volume chemical samples (up to 1.5ml). It comes with a broad range of functionality, including temperature scanning, step-isothermal, heat capacity measurement and titration.
