Diary dates for Summer term

Dear families,

As quick as this half term has been, we’ve packed in a huge amount over the last five weeks from our bedtime story evening in the library to our World Book Day celebrations, our Eid and Easter celebrations, String and Rocksteady concerts, netball tournaments, Red Nose Day and Shakespeare at the Contact Theatre!

Our March edition includes further information about some of these events but it’s hard to do justice to the number of moments in which the children have excelled themselves this term. The efforts they make daily are paying off not just academically but holistically, as they grow into increasingly kind, confident and wellrounded young people. You have an awful lot to be proud of.

Thank you as ever for your ongoing support and engagement with our school events and for making them possible. I hope you have a restful break over Easter and we look forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday 15th April.

Have a great couple of weeks,

Belonging, Believing, Becoming

We’ve had two brilliant and memorable celebrations in the last two weeks for Easter and Eid al-Fitr. We were blown away with the number of entries for our egg decorating and Easter bonnet competitions and after a bonnet parade through the playground, the School Council chose some worthy winners.

Our Eid celebration on the 24th March was another great example of our school community coming together and giving our families an opportunity to celebrate the festivals that are important to them. Thank you again to the families who brought food and entertainment: the children (and adults!) had a wonderful time and it was a joy to share this celebration together. ‘Family Festivals’ will become a regular part of our school life and what a brilliant way to start!

Both our Easter and Eid events have been shared on our Instagram and Facebook pages – please follow us to keep up-to-date on our school events.

A huge well done to Year 5 for delivering our Easter service on Wednesday morning. They shared the message of Easter in a very clear, engaging and hopeful way and it was clear how much effort had gone into preparing it. Thank you to the Year 5 team for writing the service and to every Year 5 pupil for practising and performing so confidently. It’s really important for the children to know the significance of Easter and Year 5 certainly helped us all to understand the true meaning of the story. Thank you, Year 5!

Shakespeare on stage…

A Night to Remember at the Contact Theatre!

On Friday 13th March, our Year 4 pupils took to the stage at the Contact Theatre for a truly unforgettable evening. After weeks of preparationexploring Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, analysing themes, characters and Shakespearean language- they performed in front of a sold-out audience.

Their performances were confident, dramatic and wonderfully humorous, showcasing a cohort of exceptionally talented children. We embraced this project because we believed it would offer our pupils a unique, inspiring and a once in a lifetime opportunityand they rose to the challenge magnificently. We hope this experience has shown them that anything is possible, and that it sparks a lifelong excitement for studying Shakespeare, knowing they performed some of his greatest works at just nine years old!

…at the Contact Theatre.

As the national curriculum places an ever-growing emphasis on oracy, this is a project we plan to continue in the years ahead, giving every future Year 4 class the chance to create memories that will stay with them forever.

A huge thank you to our Year 4 parents and carers who provided brilliant costumes and helped with the learning of lots of line! Your support has been hugely appreciated.

Family meal days during Summer term

Starting again on Thursday 23rd April, we will be hosting family meal days where parents in one class per week will be invited to have lunch with the children.

Food will be provided to parents free of charge by Dolce, our school meal providers. We hope this will provide you with memorable moments with your children as well as giving you a clear idea of the school meals that Dolce provides.

Family meals are served at 12pm.

Kindness first, effort always

Our behaviour motto – Kindness First, Effort Always – is always lived out in classrooms, corridors and the playgrounds. Here are some extra examples of kindness and effort to celebrate from this month:

Thank you to Junaid and Lareen in 6CP who have taken it on themselves to keep the KS2 Reading Shed tidy and organised. Junaid has even brought in his own dustpan and brush!

We place a lot of pride in the tidiness of the school as it instils good habits and makes the school a safer, more productive and generally nicer place to be and Junaid and Lareen have gone above and beyond to keep this shared space at its best.

Thank you Junaid and Lareen – you’re excellent role models and it’s greatly appreciated!

Oscar in 5MD and his dad Mike are raising funds to support a family they are very close to. Mike is running the Manchester marathon to support newly-born Malachy who has had a very difficult arrival. In Mike’s words:

I am setting up this gofundme in order to raise funds to provide support for them such that they can better access the support, therapies and specialist equipment required.

Every donation, no matter the size, makes a massive difference. If you aren't able to give at this time, sharing a link with your friends and local community would mean just as much.

Thank you for your kindness, your prayers and for standing with Malachy and his family during this time.

Mike has written more about Malachy on his gofundme which you can visit via this link.

Good luck, Mike!
