The Observation Deck at 30 Hudson Yards Stands Out

t 101 floors and 1,270 feet, 30 Hudson Yards is the tallest building in the largest private real-estate development in U.S. history. And at 1,131 feet up, protruding sharply from the 100th floor, the Edge is the highest open-air observation deck in the western hemisphere. It cantilevers 80 feet from the main structure to its tip. A glass floor in the deck’s center lets visitors enjoy views straight down. The unique triangular terrace represents a spectacular feat of engineering ingenuity. But this awe-inspiring deck wasn’t always part of the building plan. “Early in the tower’s design,” said Project Manager Jeff Callow, “the developer decided they wanted an iconic place-marking feature near the top – something that was one of a kind.” (continued inside)
