Kindergarten at Thomas's Battersea

From September 2026, the Kindergarten will move on to the Thomas’s Battersea site for Upper Kindergarten aged pupils, thus taking our offering from 3 to 13. We are hugely looking forward to making this transition and bringing the teams closer together, whilst ensuring curriculum alignment and seamless admissions from the Kindergarten to Reception.

When will I be able to see the setting?

The site will be renovated over the summer break. First opportunities to see the new Kindergarten site will be in September 2026; however, attached are the most recent plans and drawings.

Will the Kindergarten pupils have access to other facilities at Thomas’s Battersea from September 2026?

One of the enormous advantages of having the Kindergarten move on site is that the pupils will have access to the facilities at the Prep School, including the outdoor space, the library and the extra-curricular facilities.

How many children will be in each classroom?

There will be a maximum of 15 children per class, with 30 children in the Year Group.

How many staff members will be allocated to the Kindergarten?

Our Early Years staffing ratio is 1:8 in our Kindergarten Year group.

Will the Kindergarten children use the playground?

Yes, Kindergarten children will be able to use all facilities that our Reception children use at Thomas’s Battersea, but not with the older children.

What are the hours of Kindergarten?

Drop off will be between 0800 and 0820, and pick up timings will be 1515 - 1545.

Kindergarten pupils will be expected to attend a minimum of 3 full days and 2 mornings. There will be two optional sessions on Thursday and Friday afternoons.

Thursday and Friday morning sessions will end at 1145.

What will the Kindergarten fees be?

The fees for Kindergarten are here.

Will lunch be provided?

Families have the option to either have a hot lunch for their child, or bring in a nut-free packed lunch. Please see the fee sheet for further information.

Will wrap around care be offered to the Kindergarten?

Yes, there is the option for wraparound care, this does come at an extra charge with limited places available. As with Reception this will run until 1700 from Monday - Thursday.

If my child is offered a place into Thomas’s Battersea Kindergarten, will they automatically be given a place into Reception the following year?

Yes - as per the current policy. A place in Kindergarten guarantees a place into Reception the following year. Ensuring there exists a seamless transition from the Kindergarten through to Reception has been one of our priorities since merging the Kindergarten with the Prep School. Please note the policy does include detail on exceptional circumstances where Thomas’s Battersea may not be the right setting.

What if I am not ready to accept an offer for Kindergarten, will I be able to roll the application over for Reception, or must I complete a separate registration?

We will continue to have a main entry point for children into Reception at Thomas’s. You will not need to complete a new registration form and we will look forward to meeting your children for entry into Reception.

Will my child be given priority to move on to Thomas's schools other than Thomas’s Battersea?

Should a family wish to explore the possibility of moving from the Kindergarten to another Thomas’s school (not Thomas’s Battersea), we will approach any such event as we would with any transfer to another Thomas’s school. See our Transfer Policy here
