The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen has reacted to a
news report (not THISDAY) alleging that he was under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for purported
corruption, stating that he was unaware that he was being investigated by the anti-graft agency. He equally assured the public that he had nothing
to hide and was open to any investigation. The CJN’s statement yesterday came of the heels on a similar rebuttal by the EFCC, stating it was
not investigating some high profile Nigerians, including the Justice Onnoghen, the former Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, among others. Continued on page 53

council and BoT of HYPREP, the two key elements of the governance structures required for the clean-up of Ogoniland and other impacted sites.
The two structures were set up by President Muhammadu Buhari in line with his promise to implement the UNEP Report, which recommended
the setting up of $1 billion fund to clean-up the oil pollution and ensure the environmental remediation to Ogoniland.

Non-Academic Varsity Unions Join ASUU, Doctors, Start Strike Monday Ngige: Doctors’ action violates trade dispute, breach of agreement Senator Iroegbu in Abuja There is no end in sight to the industrial action in the social services sector in the country, as the major non-academic staff unions of tertiary institutions in the country, yesterday resolved to embark on an indefinite strike from September 11 if the federal government failed to meet their demands. Should they carry out their threat, they would be joining the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) whose members have downed their tools, making life unbearable for Nigerians.
The latest strike notice from the non-academic unions came just as the federal government was meeting ASUU and NARD yesterday to resolve the issues leading to their strike.
