In Japanese, a bay-shaped land formed on river banks separate from the mainstream is called WAND. The gentle flow of the river, while maintaining its connection with the mainstream, nurtures a variety of vegetation and creates a rich and diverse biotope; this is the origin and concept of the design of the Kyoto Wand by Coil Kazuteru Matsumura Architects. This small open space was renovated from a traditional Japanese townhouse building to provide an accommodation experience that combines comfort and cultural enjoyment with a wide range of activities and facilities. It is full of details from craftsmanship, works of art, and traces of stories reflected through various building elements.
