by Rev. David Lindwall, Pastor of Caring and Adult Outreach Ministry
“Someday you will be there too!” Surely you have heard this quote. These are words of comfort to express hope and encouragement. Building on the vision of the Adults 55+ Ministry, Caring and Adult Outreach is working to bring the encouragement of Jesus Christ to TWMC’s members who are 90 years old and above. Did you know that TWMC has more than 100 members in this community? Many of them have been serving the church their entire life, yet because of health and mobility challenges, they are homebound. This month we are launching the 90+ outreach to focus on these saints! We are celebrating the foundation created by Shepherd’s Care and weaving this ministry into the 90+ ministry to expand our reach. We want to “seek out” those in their 90th year and older, visit them, send notes, pray for them and let the church know if their situation changes.
Members of our 90+ outreach team will be trained as Congregational Care Ministers to enhance qualities of compassion such as listening and empathy. Think of the wisdom gained and stories we will hear from over nine decades of living.
The prophet Isaiah reminds us:
“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” – Isaiah 46:4
Isaiah’s words are for us. Someday we (God willing!) will be there too.
Debbie Russell will be the Lay Coordinator leading and developing this important new initiative. You will see from her introduction (p. 3) that God has been preparing her for such a role.
Do you sense that God is leading you to this ministry? If so feel free to contact me (dlindwall@twmc.org), Debbie (drussell@twmc.org) or Teri Rossi (trossi@twmc.org).

PREPARATION AND PARTICIPATION
by Rev. Chris McLain, Pastor of Caring and Adults 55+ Ministry
In the McLain household September is a season of preparation, especially this year. On the first weekend of October, my son will attempt to harvest his first animal with a bow and arrow. Whether you come from a hunting family or not, you can imagine how substantial this experience is in the life of a young hunter. The average quarry harvested with a bow and arrow in these United States is 12 yards. He has been preparing for two years, but I have been preparing him for 12. September is the final push for preparation of our locations, blinds and more.
It reminds me of the role played by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus in chapter 19 of John. They were quietly and secretly following Jesus. They had been preparing, and now the moment had come for them to act. They took the body of Jesus, “wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. … in accordance with Jewish burial customs” (John 19:40). And don’t forget the myrrh that Nicodemus brought.
Strips of cloth, myrrh, spices? Can’t frankincense be considered a spice? Wait! Jesus experienced preparations like this before. That’s right — God had been preparing this story for a long time, and your story is no different. Spend some time this week and month asking how God has been preparing you for this season of life. Then ask, how is He calling you to participate?
Get ready for an unforgettable afternoon of timeless hits and pure entertainment! Experience the magic of Frank Sinatra with Vince King’s incredible tribute performance, featuring classics like “Fly Me to the Moon” and “My Way.” Register at twmc.org/adults55

We had the joy of honoring Carolyn Crawford as she transitions from Shepherd’s Care Coordinator to Congregational Care Minister.
The new 90+ outreach continues the legacy established by Shepherd’s Care, and we’re deeply grateful for Carolyn’s faithful role in shaping that foundation.

Meet Debbie Russell
Debbie Russell is our new Lay Volunteer Coordinator for the 90+ outreach. She brings warmth, enthusiasm and a genuine heart for service.
“I am honored to serve our 90+ community at The Woodlands Methodist Church. I was led to TWMC after relocating to be near my family. I attend “Emptying Nest” Sunday school, Women’s Bible Study and Traditional Worship. I am from Memphis, where I married my late husband, Steve. We have two children and three granddaughters. Job relocations sent us to multiple cities prior to early retirement due to Steve’s diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s disease. We were married 42 years at his death in 2018.
Twenty years as an educator allowed me the privilege of teaching, guiding, nurturing and mentoring children, young adults, parents and colleagues. Favorite activities include family time, gardening, sports, travel and friends.
As I take this leap of faith to serve, I humbly ask for your prayers for me and our team throughout the development and implementation of our 90+ outreach. "
