A MESSAGE TO OUR COMMUNITY

Dear Residents of The Woodlands,

As we welcome spring, thoughtful planning and a steady focus on the future continue to define our work on behalf of The Woodlands Township.

We began 2026 by celebrating a legacy that quite literally grows every year. In January, we celebrated Arbor Day, recognizing The Woodlands’ long-standing commitment to nature and a vision set in motion by George Mitchell. Since 1977, more than 1.5 million trees have been given to residents, reinforcing the role native trees play in cooling our community, improving air quality and supporting wildlife. The milestone 50th Arbor Day celebration underscored how deeply this ethic remains rooted in who we are. Even freezing temperatures could not dampen our commitment to this founding value.

Public safety remains a top priority. Our Neighborhood Services team earned first place once again in the National Association of Town Watch’s National Night Out awards. Ranked in the top three nationally for 26 consecutive years, this program reflects extraordinary collaboration among residents, volunteers and law enforcement. That commitment is reinforced by encouraging year end law enforcement data, showing fewer crimes of note and a notable reduction in injury related accidents, even as calls for service increased. Proactive patrols, targeted enforcement and interagency coordination continue to strengthen community-wide public safety.

As we look ahead, we remain focused on initiatives that shape the Township’s future. Collaborating with our regional partners, improvements planned at the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and Grogan’s Mill Road will enhance traffic flow, pedestrian safety and aesthetics, including the planting of 423 new trees and the “First Fifty” commemorative art installation celebrating our 50-year history. Improvements are expected to be completed by April.

We are also taking steps to ensure continued strategic focus and accountability by approving a budget-centered strategic planning workshop in May and confirming key committee appointments spanning water resources, economic development, parks and recreation, audit oversight and community amenities.

Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to preserving what makes The Woodlands special while planning responsibly for the opportunities ahead.

You will see many meaningful activities happening in The Woodlands this spring highlighted throughout the pages of this magazine. We wish you all a safe and happy springtime filled with enjoyment.

Sincerely,

The Woodlands Township Board of Directors

NEWEST FIRE STATION OPENS

The Woodlands Township, The Woodlands Fire Department and Montgomery County Hospital District celebrated the official opening and dedication of Station 5/Medic 24 on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with community leaders, guests and partners in attendance. Located at 8005 McBeth Way in The Woodlands, the new station represents a significant investment in emergency response capability and community safety.

“Fire Station 5 is a big deal. It strengthens our response capability, improves coordination with EMS, and makes sure our firefighters and paramedics have exactly what they need to do their jobs well,” said Township Chairman Brad Bailey. The opening and dedication ceremonies included an open house, raising of the flags in front of the station, the traditional uncoupling of the hoses and backing the engines into the station. The act of the hoses being uncoupled and put away signifies that the station and its firefighters are prepared and ready for their next call for service.

Fire Station 5 is a 21,565-square-foot, modern fire station designed to support the operational demands of a growing, all-hazards fire department. The facility includes 14 individual dorm rooms and 4.5 apparatus bays, providing the capacity and flexibility necessary to support continuous staffing while promoting firefighter health, recovery and operational readiness. Station 5 serves the west side of The Woodlands including the Villages of Sterling Ridge and Indian Springs.

The station houses a comprehensive array of emergency resources, including an engine company, truck company, battalion chief, collapse rescue truck and two emergency medical service units. The EMS component of the station is delivered in partnership with the Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD), which provides and staffs the medic units assigned to Fire Station 5. One medic unit will be staffed full-time, while a second peak medic unit will be staffed daily to address periods of higher call volume and increased service demand. Through the partnership with Montgomery County Hospital District, the facility brings fire and EMS services together under one roof, enhancing coordination, reducing response times and improving patient care.

“The design of Fire Station 5 incorporates best practices in fire station planning, including clear separation of living and operational spaces, modern mechanical systems, decontamination and gear-support areas and infrastructure to support training and specialized rescue operations. Together, these features support firefighter safety, workforce sustainability and long-term operational efficiency,” said Fire Chief Palmer Buck.

The Woodlands Township broke ground on the station in 2024, following a documented need to rebuild the existing Station 5. The Woodlands Fire Department operates from a total of eight stations and an emergency training center.

“Fire Station 5 is not just a building,” Chairman Bailey concluded. “It is a promise. A promise that when something goes wrong, help is close by, prepared and ready.”

Additional speakers at the event included Vice Chairman Bob Bagley of the Montgomery County Hospital District, CEO Randy Johnson of the Montgomery County Hospital District, Ricardo Martinez with Martinez Architects and President of Brookstone Construction Jeremy Stovall.

ACTIVE ON THE PATHWAYS

SHOUT OUT TO OUR ADOPT-A-PATH VOLUNTEERS

Through the continuing Respect the Path program, The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services Department reminds pathway users that staying alert and engaged while biking and walking is key to safety.

For March and April, the theme for safety is Heads Up, Phones Down and Bike Smart, Stay Safe. Below are some tips to help to create safer paths for everyone to enjoy.

• Look ahead, not down at your phone, handlebars or front wheel.

• Make EYE CONTACT with drivers and others on the path.

• Avoid using your phone.

• If you use headphones, keep the volume low or use only one earbud.

• Ride at a speed that allows you to stop quickly if something unexpected occurs.

• When approaching others using the pathway, slow down and announce, “Passing on the left.”

Trust your instincts – if something feels unsafe, slow down or stop. Dismount your bike and walk through intersections, or busy, confusing areas. By respecting others and practicing safe habits, we can all enjoy The Woodlands Township pathways together.

WOODLANDS WATER REPORT

CONGRATULATIONS! THE WOODLANDS RESIDENTS WERE WATER-WISE IN 2025

There is much to celebrate when it comes to residential water use in The Woodlands. Last year, average monthly household water use was 9,435 gallons. Supported by our community’s conservation mindset and the Defined Irrigation Schedule introduced in 2013, that represents a 37% reduction in consumption over the past 15 years—a clear sign that long-term water-saving efforts are delivering real results. This achievement is especially noteworthy given the weather conditions in 2025. The Woodlands received approximately 44 inches of rainfall, about 15% less than average (52 inches). Because climate has a direct influence on household water use—particularly outdoor irrigation—maintaining lower consumption during a drier-than-average year underscores the community’s commitment to efficient water use.

Regardless of weather patterns, efficient water management remains essential to maintaining a reliable and affordable water supply. That is why Woodlands Water continues to invest in infrastructure renewal, ensuring pipes, pumps and treatment facilities remain dependable, and water loss is minimized. As a result, Woodlands Water achieved a water loss rate of just 5%, well below the statewide average of 16.1%.

Woodlands Water also supports residents through a range of programs designed to help save water and reduce costs. These include free sprinkler system inspections – the WISE Guy program - rebates for water-efficient devices, and WaterSmart, an online portal that connects directly to your digital water meter. WaterSmart provides detailed insights into indoor and outdoor water use and can alert customers to leaks or unusually high usage, offering added peace of mind—especially when away from home. Learn more at woodlandswater.org.

by Cynthia

The annual Cochran’s Crossing Village Association election for the 18-member area representative board was held, with the new board taking office in late-February. Welcome to all new and returning village board members!

With the election of officers and budget adoption for the fiscal year, plans are underway for fun family-friendly events for the residents!

The new village association scholarship application is online! Applicants must be high school seniors currently living in Cochran’s Crossing and planning to continue their education at a fouryear university, a two-year college or a vocational trade or technical school. The association will award up to three $1,000 scholarships. In January, the association awarded teacher grants to teachers at David, Powell and Galatas Elementary Schools. Congratulations to the participating teachers!

CAN I CUT DOWN A HEALTHY TREE?

No. Springtime is a good time to remember that The Woodlands was developed to preserve as much of the natural forest as possible. It provides the unity and constant “sense of green” that is of immeasurable value to the visual pleasure and enjoyment of the outdoor experience.

Here’s what you need to know about tree removal: No living tree greater than six inches in diameter (measured two feet above natural grade) can be removed without a permit. However, there are exceptions, such as hazard conditions. Residents are encouraged to contact The Woodlands Township with any questions or to seek approval for any tree removal to ensure that the natural beauty of our environment continues as intended
