The Aroha String Quartet, widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s finest chamber music ensembles, will take to the stage at the Lake Wānaka Centre on Friday, 20 March at 7.30pm. Founded in 2004, this versatile Wellington-based quartet is known for its passionate musicality, impressive technique, and multicultural innovation. The ensemble – violinists Haihong Liu and Konstanze Artmann, violist Nicholas Hancox and cellist Robert Ibell – is celebrated not only for its interpretations of the classical canon but also for championing contemporary and cross-cultural works. The quartet is committed to presenting repertoire that ranges from Western classical and avantgarde masterpieces to traditional Chinese folk
music, and regularly collaborates with distinguished guest artists for larger-scale projects. The Dominion Post has described the quartet as demonstrating “accomplished brilliance, soulfulness and sublime intensity in perfect balance and tonal unity.” The programme samples music from seven different countries on five continents - Europe, Asia, South America, North America and Zealandia.
