We had another incident of the barrier arm at the Masonic Lodge carpark on Dunmore Street being broken between Saturday night and Sunday morning. This is the second time in the past year this has been broken off and Police would love to hear if you have any information on this. Police are still investigating reports of people breaching Health Rules and leaving Auckland to come to Wanaka. Be assured these are being investigated fully and appropriate action taken when clear breaches are found. We want to keep Covid out of Wanaka and the area, but at times there are legitimate reasons for people travelling and residing here.

We investigated several calls about poor driving behaviour on our local roads over the past week. With the inability to blame tourists for this, maybe it’s time to take a hard look at local driving behaviours and take the appropriate action to address it.

Be aware of the opportunist thieves around town as hot on the heels of a young boy having his bag taken last week, we had a report of a bag with significant amount of property taken from a vehicle this week. The vehicle was a convertible with the roof down and bag in view. Please don’t place temptation in people’s way if leaving your vehicle, lock all valuables in the boot or out of sight.

The enforced isolation proved fruitful on the song writing front for Andrew, with inspiration coming from a variety of places - Donald Trump, the family dynamics of the lockdown itself, recollections of past tours and collaborations. This ‘Covid Suite’ of songs has been added to half a dozen recordings on which work had begun prior to the lockdown, and now appears as a whole new album entitled ‘Get Back To Work!’. Andrew London is a musician based on the Kapiti Coast. A songwriter, satirist and performer who has played locally many times with his band ‘Hot Club Sandwich’.
Although humour and satire are very much to the fore in Andrew’s songs, poignancy and pathos are often not far away.

Bacteria are found in almost all environments on earth and play essential roles in the function of ecosystems. However, bacteria are under constant threat from viruses known as bacteriophages — originating from the Greek meaning ‘to devour bacteria’. These bacteriophages outnumber bacteria by ten to one, infecting more than 1025 bacteria per second globally. To protect themselves from these infections, bacteria have evolved a diverse arsenal of antiviral immune systems.
Understanding how bacterial immune systems function is critical to enabling future applications of bacteriophages to overcome major global challenges in health and agriculture. Here, I will present an overview of what future bacteriophagebased precision medicines might look like and how our research advances this field.
