Wanaka audiences are invited to step back in time for an evening of Baroque music at the spectacular Rippon Vineyard on Sunday, 15 February at 7.00pm. Performed on period instruments, this concert promises an intimate and richly coloured experience, where music and landscape meet in perfect harmony.
The programme brings together some of the most evocative works of the Baroque era.
Telemann’s elegant Suite opens the evening, followed by Vivaldi’s sparkling Sinfonia RV 719. A highlight of the night is Vivaldi’s dramatic La Notte Recorder Concerto – a vivid musical journey through dreams, storms, and restless nights.
At the centre of this performance is Julie Braná, the internationally acclaimed Czech recorder and baroque flute soloist. A regular performer with leading European ensembles including Concerto

Celebrating Queer books in 2026
Queer Quarterly Reads is a book club featuring LGBTQIA+ themes, authors and books. Each event includes an open discussion of a chosen book in a safe and supportive environment at the Wānaka Library.
The first meeting will take place on Thursday, 19 February at 5.30pm, with the discussion centred on Atmosphere by bestselling author Taylor Jenkins Reid. The group will then meet three more times throughout 2026. On 23 April, readers will discuss The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, followed by Not That I’d Kiss a Girl by Lil O’Brien on 23 July. The final session for the year will be held on 22 October and will focus on Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters.
Queer Quarterly Reads’ mission is to promote queer literature while fostering a supportive atmosphere for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies.

Upper Clutha Farmers Market returns!
The Upper Clutha Farmers Market will once again fill the Luggate Hall Reserve on Sunday, 1 February, with local growers and food producers from the area coming together.
The market began last summer as a trial, with two initial dates held to gauge community interest. Thanks to the strong support and positive response, the organisers are pleased to host four monthly markets this season. Run by a dedicated group of local volunteers, the goal is to establish a regular, authentic farmers market for the community.
Visitors can look forward to a diverse range of stalls featuring fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan breads, quality butchered meats and fresh fish, locally handmade preserves and honey, baked treats and coffee, fresh flowers, and even something special for furry friends.
The market offers a relaxed Sunday morning experience where locals and visitors can come together and connect. Enjoy live music from local musicians, grab a coffee or brunch, and chat directly with the passionate growers and makers behind the food you love.
