May 13th and 14th sees the return of YAMI Sounz Summit to the Lake Wanaka Centre, where locals and travellers can experience a musical weekend working alongside Anika Moa, Julia Deans, Warren Maxwell, Barnaby Weir, Tali, Anna Coddington, Paddy Free and many more.

Over 150 people take part in the summit, with tutors and speakers from all areas of the music industry, including representatives from Pandora, NZ On Air, Rhythmethod, NZ Music Commission and Recorded Music NZ.
Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated, which runs the summit, is a not-for profit group which returns all profits to music education. Incredible local and national support has ensured the summit’s return to the town, although after 2017, YAMI moves to a biennial event.

MY COMMUNITY NEWS Hawea Wanaka Pony Club’s 60th Anniversary On Saturday 6th of May the Hawea Wanaka Pony Club are holding a Jump and Dressage Competition to celebrate their 60th anniversary. The club has a strong membership that is continually growing, with 24 riding members ranging from beginners to Otago Southland representatives. Five coaches volunteer their time, one of whom has been involved with the club for the entire 60 years! The Jump and Dressage Competition will be held at the pony club grounds, on Domain Road, Hawea Flat. Catering for all levels and abilities, this event is open to all riders, not just pony club members. Dressage will commence at 9.00am in the morning and the jumping will start from 11.00am. Interested families are invited to come and see what the pony club is all about, with free entry, a sausage and bacon sizzle provided for attendees. The club would like to invite all past members to come and join them for morning tea and cake to celebrate. A special riding class for past members will be held on the day to show they have remembered everything they were taught!
