The Hikuwai 4 Hour mountain and gravel bike race is less than a month away on the new date of Saturday, 11 December, between 9.00am - 1.00pm. Based at the Outlet Camp Wānaka, riders race the full Hikuwai Loop. The course takes riders of all abilities over three bridges, then through the densely covered trail to the top of the loop at Norm’s Rest. It’s then a fast, fun descent toward Albert Town and through some of the lesser-known trail gems.

Weather permitting, the course traverses upper Rockabilly Gulch and then a more swift single track back to Norm’s Rest, where riders once again have spectacular views of the Clutha River. From there a flowing traverse through the forest and kanuka to the Outlet Camp Wānaka.
The event is open to both solo riders, 18 plus and teams of two or more over the age of 10. Bike Wānaka would like to thank the Outlet Camp Wānaka and the many local businesses supporting the inaugural event. Special thanks to all of the volunteers that have dedicated their time maintaining and ‘tickling up’ the trails for everyone to enjoy.

On Wednesday night an alcohol check point was conducted on Cardrona Valley Road. One driver blew over the legal limit whilst one unlicensed driver was forbidden to drive. There was also a crash in Hawea Flat where the driver swerved to avoid a rabbit and as a result put their vehicle in a big ditch narrowly missing a tree.

On Saturday Police attended two single vehicle crashes. One on the corner of Riverbank and Cardrona Valley Road where a streetlight was cleaned up, the other between bridge two and three in the Crown Range. Both occurred as a result of the drivers not adjusting their speeds appropriately to the weather conditions. Thankfully neither driver was seriously hurt, but one will have to explain their actions to the court.

On Sunday we had reports of a Motorcycle been ridden around Albert Town in a dangerous manner, with the passenger not wearing a helmet. They were spotted by Police a short time later and signalled to pull over, however failed to do so. The bike was found and impounded as a result and the rider has been referred to youth aid. Ongoing scammers continue to look for opportunities and not always by emails, phone calls or online. The latest scam is a flyer that has been distributed into mailboxes. Whilst it looks pretty legit, the number you call connects you through to another suspicious number. Remember if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Please continue to report this type of behaviour to prevent others falling victim to scams.

The Wanaka Community Workshop is hosting a DIY session in partnership with the ‘Get SMART, Get moving’ campaign and as part of Bikevember, a month-long celebration of cycling in Wanaka.
Being a supporter of the Wanaka Community Workshop is not necessary for this event, however we are showing the benefits and hope to welcome a few new people to our fast growing group.
Join in on the DIY session on 27 November to build your own bike storage rack or pannier box. The Wanaka Community Workshop is dedicated to reduce waste, connect people, share knowledge and resources, and build resilience for the community. The projects for this event are another great way to use waste material from construction sites that will be useful in our day to day life.

Mt Aspiring Netball Club is seeking netball coaches for our Senior and Junior teams for the 2022 netball season.

In 2021 MANC had a total of 21 teams and 200 players that participated in the Upper Clutha Competition. Our performance teams A, B, 9a and 10a Teams competed in the Otago competition in Dunedin. The 9a and 10a teams attended the South Island Secondary Schools competition but due to Covid the Senior South Island Secondary School competition was cancelled.
Within netball, we have a vision to develop players, coaches and officials to the highest level of achievement. It is our aim for students to reach maximum potential at local and regional levels, as well as continuing to maintain high levels of participation in forthcoming years.
We require enthusiastic and knowledgeable coaches for teams ranging from Year 7 through to Year 13. We require performance coaches for our travelling teams and coaches for our developing and social teams for 2022.

NOTICE OF FOOD FOR LOVE
AGM
Food for Love is a registered Charity, caring for members of our community encompassing Wanaka, Hawea, Luggate and Queensberry since 2016. Our main purpose is to cook meals for those in need. Food for Love has been in operation for almost five years, and we have over 160 volunteers. Our volunteer cooks prepare all meals and deliver them free of charge. On average we supply 125 meals per week to 30 plus nominees. These nominees can be individuals, couples or families. In June 2020 we introduced School lunches and now provide these to several children in our district.
We are also seeking applications for Board Positions. We are looking to fill general Board member positions. • Ideal Candidates would have either previous Board experience or a background in Business • Have proven experience in successful grant funding applications • Experience with working/volunteering within a ‘not for profit’ charity not necessary but preferred • Strong communication skills and ability to work alongside others is a requirement • A strong passion and understanding of Food for Love For application and further information please contact Marilyn Duncan via email volunteer@foodforlovewanaka.com Applications close 28th November 2021.
